This is a second part to my time lapse on building a French World War One light tank, specifically the Renault Ft17. Considered to be the first Modern tank design with a fully rotating turret and drive train in the rear of the crew compartment. There will prob be 5-8 episodes of this build in time lapse as these kind of projects take a little time haha

what the devil inspired you to actually just kinda build a tank? it's such a commitment of a project to finish.

I’ve built one before. I’ve restored classic cars and built commercial pools and have done lots of metal work. I just love metal fab and history. Me and my bros, dad would play world of tanks and the entry level one was the Renault. It’s technically americas first tank as we built a licensed copy of our own and used them in WW1. Historically a significant vehicle with few in existence.

Thanks I really appreciate it! The recognition of my work helps a lot. I’ll have to post more video of it soon. Hard to stay motivated sometimes, feels like a endless project.

This is not a criticism at all, but it’s worth noting the unusual = A tombstone welder next to a plasma cutting machine. Different end of the tech spectrum these days. Kinda cool!

The whole thing was welded with the tombstone 😂

A way much better build than mine. No metal working skills and little money so we (my Cuz and a friend) made a LOT of concessions and had to use a wood/rubber track. But still a full scale running and shooting model FT tank so I can't complain and we have battles on the site of the museum in Kingsbury, Texas and once at another museum. Looks pretty good especially at a distance where it's hard to see the lack of track detail.

Thank you, it’s been a lot of work. So much so I have had to take a break hahah I been waiting on the machine shop to finish my engine so I can throw it back together. Most the vids of it running was to just check the hydraulics out. The engine needed a rebuild from the start so I’m finally doing that haha

Hello sir, nice work ! I just wonder, what are those big orange gear ? Do they come from a bulldozer or something like that ? Thanks !

@@Kam.Mcswin.tankdude How similar are those dozer parts to the original Renault parts? They look pretty close to me.

What did you use for a steering differential?
@Kam.Mcswin.tankdude

It’s all hydraulic, hydraulic motor for each final drive with there own spool valve.

@@Kam.Mcswin.tankdude That would solve the problem of trying to adapt a mechanical donor differential from a BOBCAT of something similar. 👍
