Very nice review. I recently purchased this dehumidifier (50 pint version). I never owned a dehumidifier and didn't understand the fan noise emanating from the unit. I did a search on the unit and came across your review. You answered all my questions and I want to say thank you.

Great review, straight and to the point. I dont know why the smaller buckets would be a problem if it has the gravity drain in the back, this product does have the gravity drain option in back. I only buy dehumidifiers with the gravity drain, so a smaller bucket is a mute point with me, as well as the noise because its in the basement and the noise doesnt effect sleeping on the 2nd floor. However the one thing with me is the durability, my last dehumidifier just broke at 9 years old, it was a Keystone 70 pint for $200 at Walmart. The last big thing is safety recall notices on the products, I look hard at those as well. So far this product is in front as I can't find any recalls on the products or the company, I may have to suck up the durability part for safety. Thanks for your insightful review.

I have the 50 pint Pelonis made by Media sold at Menards. It looks IDENTICAL only is brown and sells for much less. Look it up. Also it carrys a 3 year warranty as shown on Menard's web site and in my manual. Thats a big PERK. Nice running unit. To bad it lasted 1 summer in very MILD conditions which was about 4 months of running time. So much for the quality. 6/7/20 to 6/6/21.

*We liked it **Fastly.Cool** so much in the basement, we bought a second one for the main level. The amount of moisture it pulls out of the air is astonishing.*

Unfortunately all dehumidifiers seem to be very poorly made these days. If your unit does not stop working after 2 years OR LESS consider yourself very blessed. I don't mean complete failure, the unit will still run, but it will no longer remove moisture from the air. A pinhole leak develops and the refrigerant leaks out, leaving the unit undercharged and useless.

Amazon is selling pretty cheap 4-year warranties on this unit. I bought that and I'm going to run it hard and should be good for four years.

Thanks for the review of this dehumidifier and the comparison to the Frigidaire!
@tonyborchardt4844

I am replacing the Frigidaire unit you are rating as the highest because it lasted only 3 years of light to moderate use. it is losing the refrigerant. Except for the short life I like it. I am strongly considering the Homelabs unit. Also I agree with the more bang for the buck assessment but I wonder if the operation cost is higher per pint of the 50 pint when compared to the smaller units?

If you build quality metric does not include inspection of the machining and reliability of the internals, "Fit and finish" may be a better term. Still, very good review thanks.

I have an Electrohome dehumidifier that's 20+ years old. It actually still works, not really well, but it still works. I bought a commercial Santa Fe unit for over $1000 bucks, figuring it would give me efficient dehumidification for years. I'm on my 4th unit, none of them lasting more than a couple years before their refrigerant leaks out. I don't give a shit about the plastic shell on the outside, or the noise it makes, or the bucket size, or the length of the drain hose, or whether it matches my furniture or any other stupid subjective ranking. All I care about is whether it will hold its refrigerant for more than 24 months, & whether it will work. It seems that 95% of the consumer units fail after a year or two for the simple reason that they can't hold a charge. The rest of the unit is capable of lasting years but no one will service them. I hate that kind of throw-away mentality with a passion.

Please note the warranty was reduced from 2 years to 1 year in January 2021.

@shadyshady I purchased the dehumidifier last week and in the manual it stated 1 year so I contacted hOmeLabs and received the following email "Starting January 2021, all home labs products carry a 12 warranty. Hence, the warranty depends on the date of purchase. Please keep your invoice for warranty reference."
@StillwaterShoeRepair

When I registered the product, I was emailed a "Warranty Extension Certificate" not stating what the original warranty was or how much it was extended. In any case I was very pleased with how the product functions.

Thanks for posting this. I was trying to decide between this and the Frigidare. This one was not indicated as the best except for the 2.6 month Warranty. I think I’ll go with the Frigidare and buy an extended warranty just in case.

@jaeshasway 3 года назад
@shadyshady Hey thanks! What size is the tank? That’s a biggie for me as well. Also what kind of hands free drainage? I figured I’d buy the Frigdare from Walmart and pay for the 2 year extended warranty. People have complained but they’re sending them brand new replacement units, so at the end of the day Frigidaire is making it right at no cost to the customer. I can deal with that. I don’t have a leak or anything that would require an overnight replacement. Plus with Walmart I have 3 months to test it out. I usually call the CS and everything during the testing period. I have a Frigidare Evaporative cooler and they responded immediately when I tested their CS. It’s why I have the dehumidifier. I use them in tandem. The AC cools the room and the dehumidifier removes the excess moisture keeping humidity at a level where the AC evaporator functions well. It worked last summer but I had two small humidifiers and bought a crappy Honeywell AC Evaporator that failed in less than 30 days. I guess that’s why they’re no longer sold. This year I’m upgrading to a larger dehumidifier. It’s mostly the older 50 and 70 pint units that are having issues. I planned on getting the 30 pint. I currently have a 30 pint Airplus that I bought on Amazon 3 weeks ago. The water tank is tiny and I was deceived by the photos. So it’s going back. It’s a workhorse though so I would recommend it if it were not for the smallish tank. It’s been pulling the water out efficiently without generating a lot of heat. It has a cheap gravity tube that doesn’t work so water just leaks or the machine turns off. With the Frigidare I can attach a regular garden hose and gasket that seals the water in the tank and drains it. It’s gravity also but with a more efficient connection and exit than any I have looked at. Thanks for the info. I’m going to check it out.

Why isn’t the noise output actually mentioned in a numerical value?
@cadriver2570

I agree, but it requires some standardization. Distance from the unit and the room will make a huge difference. Beyond that the quality of the sound (high frequencies, low frequencies) will have a substantial impact on the annoyance factor of the sound.

Yea…he’s wrong about the Frigidaire. The build quality of the newer models are significantly worse than the older ones. I’ve gone through 2 in a year after having my old 50 pint Frigidaire for over 4 years.

Mine is driving me crazy. It will drain out the back as it should, but then for no reason it suddenly stops draining out the back. What's up with this Homelabs? Anybody know how to force the water through the hose? Or how to permanently make it drain out the back? No, there's no kinks in the hose. And yes, the hose is short and drains downward. There's no reason for the water not to drain. Why does this keep happening? Ugh.

Your reviews are repetitive, boring and informative. If I want specifications I can read a sheet. This is not a review. A review is where you have tested the unit and show the features and the benefits and short committing of a product. You talk alot but say nothing.

@@MalinaM1 You talk like a sausage. Fill of filler. I do not do reviews. I told the truth. If you do not like the truth then shut your eyes or take a long walk off a short pier. Constructive criticism makes RU-vid better and holds the reviewers to a standard. There are too many false product reviews on RU-vid done by people who have never seen, much less used the actual product. Then there those reviews made by the well intended who have no experience or equipment to do a proper review. RU-vid needs neither of these types. You-tubers want competent informative reviews by people who have lived with and used a product. To get more than a reading of an owners manual. Which is what this video is. A recital.
