Nope. It shows how much of a cheap fakeout this is, trying to get a big reaction without actually making the sacrifices that are requred for a big reaction. Exactly like when a character dies but you know they're not really dead, so the purpose of "killing" the character in the first place is gone as we feel nothing because we expect a fakeout. And when they actually kill a character still expect a fakeout. Maybe hollywood never heard the story about the boy who cried wolf.

Most interesting part of this moment is that you can see the fantasy just ended up making Homelander feel bad. It's why he doesn't actually do it. Homelander wants so badly to be loved; he's not interested in mass murdering a bunch of randos, outside of his darkest impulses, which make him sad and that he's deeply ashamed off. The sad face with the glowing red eyes says it all.

Plus a responsible and fair king/queen makes for boring history, so your less likely to hear about it. Humans are not perfect, but not everyone will use their power maliciously.

How many times have you gotten so angry, furious, irate from other people being rude, discourteous or downright deplorable towards you? Now imagine you had the power to slaughter them in their droves. A power so great that nothing can stand against you. I like how in the expression in his imagined revenge massacre he seems to experience both immensely satisfying (for him) rage, and then actual remorse, as if there's a mote of humanity left in him and that's why he decided not to do it. Just wrapped up season 2 the other night. I honestly haven't been this jaw dropped since No Russian in Modern Warfare 2 or Snape killing Dumbledore in the Harry Potter books. I actually feel genuinely scared of Homelander every time he shows up in a scene, which is crazy because I also genuinely feel like things are gonna be alright when Superman appears in any medium that's not Injustice. But even Injustice Superman doesn't give me chills quite like Homelander does.
