Yes, Bryson! You did take the perspective of walking in a stranger's shoes; with much sympathy and empathy. Also visually very effectfullily - high rise buildings showing off extreme wealth along side the trash and squalor on busy streets. Nobody should have to live on streets like that with out real walls and roofs; no mental, addiction, or health problems are an excuse for authorities to give up. In Finland you would count as homeless, though your temporary home is neat, and though you can function with work and a useful side-hustle with your hired garage as the base. Bryson, I admire your tenacity and creativity and stamina. You have "sisu" for sure! I believe in "housing first" - a stable home, a key to your place, and not being evicted for small offences. A support-team to help a person up from dire straits. Your socially conscious journalism path has definitely started, Bryson, and we will be your witnesses of the progress! Kudos. This video showed you as the considerate reporter with a big heart that your are, with an interest in progress and a strong conviction that there is hope. You showed hat there is strength and talent to tap into in circumstances that many have heaps of prejudice towards. Journalism is difficult, even dangerous, but very important, world-improving. Take care, and all the best. I celebrate you with this song: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QEYmomUuveU.html ... for the chance that USA can become the land that is a Home for the people... where children can run free! Best wishes to all!

Terve ja kiitos for watching and commenting as always! I am aware that I would be considered homeless and is why I pointed it out in the description. I put a lot of effort into this one because it's very personal but it allowed me to grow my story telling skills and how to arrange them in such a manner. I'm very happy with how this turned out. Your sentence, "Journalism is difficult, even dangerous, but very important, world-improving" I hope will show through even more when you see my next video. I had no intentions to create a video on the U.S. & Mexico border but after the experience we had, it was eye opening enough and beyond any experience I could have imagined going to Mexico would be like. Have a wonderful day!

@@itsmebrysonp Thank you! I sure have noticed, Bryson, that you are very aware. And you write well and have a distinct style, even when you talk. You are able to make very captivating content, because you also care so much! I'm glad I've found your channel, it gives me hope and knowledge. Of course I'll keep a watch for your next video - Mexico -US border seems difficult and important. I hope YT will not forget to alert me! Sometimes I have my suspicions about how well the subscription functions. Now and then I search for your channel directly! It sounds like you have taken a trip to Mexico with a friend and you've gotten new inspiration, so well done - I'll be very interested in the report. It's great that you keep sharing. All the best wishes for today and every day!

Now I see that you have appreciated my first comment by marking it, and I feel proud for that as well as awkward of my writing errors. I can't use autocorrect as it doesn't know what I want to say, and myself, I often only see the errors I've made at a later,reading, if at all. I really liked your personal and empathetic approach. Vicariously we, your followers, can walk with you in strangers' shoes. You make good company. Let's go wander, open eyed and with heart!

Awesome video. This needs more attention for sure. So sad that nobody actually seems to care about their country in the usa, it's all show and talk but in reality nobody gives a sh*t about the country they live in. I would be ashamed if we had homelesness here, especially as much as the usa has. It pretty much looks like a developing nation. So much potential wasted, the usa could so easilly actually be the amazing nation it seems to think it is.

Giving a shit about that would be "evil" socialsm, and all americans have brainwashed so long about how bad that is and that only predatory capitalism is the right way .. so yeah, giving a shit about others is evil. Just be happy that you have Elon Musk, Bill Gates and all these ultra riches, and that they get richer every day.

Thank you so much for watching & commenting. It is very unfortunate we have major problems like this getting worse every day and the vast majority turn a blind eye to it. Million dollar homes and million dollar cars driving by and living next door to streets lined with tents. It isn't that one persons fault nor is it their responsibility to end homelessness. We as a cumulative country have allowed this to happen and it's like trying to stop a snowball that's already been rolling down the hill for a while. It didn't happen over night so it won't go away over night. But hopefully we can begin moving in the right direction sometime soon. Have a great day!

@@itsmebrysonp exactly. Voting for this politician or that politician isn't going to magically solve this problem. Society needs to decide this situation is no longer acceptable and then things will gradually turn around. Houndreds of policies will need to change to solve this problem, only if society no longer accepts this will it become possible to change them one by one over time. Until then pieces like this are incredibly important.

As a former homeless my self (lived on the streets for around 4-5 months and spent around 4-5 years in homeless shelters) i cant admire you enough John. My heart goes out to you and I'm super happy that you found your way out of it. And to address what needs to be done... they are correct... affordable low income housing is most of what is needed... but also proper systems to "combat" mental health issued.. both those that caused the homelessness and those that developed because of spending time on the streets. Same goes for substance abuse. I count my blessings that i got the help i needed and these past 15 years I've spent trying to better the lives of both those that live on the streets/woods and those that live in homeless shelters.

Thank you for sharing your own experiences and watching/ commenting. There is definitely a lot more that we could be doing for people in these situations. Even where I live there has been an increase in the amount of people homeless. There are countries that have been able to eliminate homelessness or have a extremely low rate compared to the U.S. and I hope one day we can start going in that direction. I commend you as well for being able to overcome such a challenge in life. Have a great day!

When John started playing the piano...ohh, my 👏🥺👏. So much talent. And his 10 year sobriety coin 💪 Thank you, Bryson for sharing this important side of America. So glad, that John was ok being on camera and for you to share with the rest of us. When he talked about covid and so many lost their jobs without a safety net makes me wonder why politicians in America aren't working harder to change the healthcare system and make sure no one has to become homeless in the richest country in the world. It makes no sense.

Thank you J. D. for watching and commenting. I didn't 100% believe all the stories he told me when we first met but I felt like I should. I can't remember how long after we met at some point I was sent a video of him playing the piano. I was ecstatic and practically jumping with joy 😂😂 Because I was told I'm crazy for hanging out with him and that I couldn't believe what some homeless guy is telling me. I knew I was right and that everyone else had given up on him but me. I'm so happy I got to go back and see him again, and that he was as willing to speak about his experiences. Hope you have a great day!

"The richest country" - that sure comes with expectations, and rightly so, because the world is looking. What surprices me, is that the official USA doesn't take the hint from countries that arrange things even better. But let's hope that awareness is growing, thanks to citizens sharing knowledge. I think it will make a huge difference that young people learn about the world now and new debates come up.

@@itsmebrysonp You surely weren't crazy, Bryson! Dismissing on the orher hand, is the number one crazy-making tactic. A healthy scepticism is appropriate both ways. Trust must be earned. I have heard many times that I'm too gullible, but the thing is that 99 % of the time I've been right, and times I've been really disappointed has been when I've overridden my intuition - and then I've learned from experience that those who have dismissed my truths have just been too lazy or too conventional to be "bothered". I'll rather take the cost of taking a chance on relying on my intuition. I want to live in a world where we care and give ourselves and others chances, new hope. But are mindful of the risks. I think most of us actually are good at distinguishing between chances and risks, if we allow us to listen inwards. I'm glad you took the chance with John, who was the musician you believed he was, and greater. You are independent, brave, and levelheaded, Bryson, take care!

So glad to see you Bryson and your friend too. You have started your new journey. I wish both of you well in what you are each trying to do - helping the helpless. We have homeless where I live too. But we also have brutal winters. A young homeless woman was found dead in a bus shack this winter on a brutally cold night. So very sad. Love from Canada 🇨🇦.

Yes, Nancy, you are so right! We can't be blind for the seasons and their hazards - and they will not improve, probably become even more unpredictable, and still society must be proactive.

A special greeting to your bright daughters, Bryson: today and tomorrow and the next day, are very special equality days - we'll all get equally long days and nights, all around the world, i.e. the globe. (Give or take a few minutes.) Then the race for the longest days starts again on the northern half of the globe, and the opposite on the southern. Today the sun is up from 06.08 to 18.13 here in my village, according to the national clock, but in reality all get 12 hours of sunlight anywhere, if the clouds are not in the way. And every year, the sun doesn't set north of the polar circle in the summer. Not in northern Alaska and not in northern Finland, Norway, Sweden... All the best wishes for the lighter part of the year, may it bring much out-door-fun for you all!

Coming from a significantly less wealthy country - it is unbelievable that such situation is possible in the US. But it is obviously a fact.

One of the problems with opioids is the long term abuse causes brain damage resulting in cognitive deficits and behavioral problems. People who abuse these drugs start out normal but over time, as the damage to accumulates, they become a completely different person and the damage is usually permanent.

I guess you have just to sozialise the money of the 5-10 richest people in the country and all these problems were gone. But of course that are evil socialst ideas, and capitalism is so great, like you see on your streets.
@DNA350ppm
@DNA350ppm Год назад
Well, it would be a huge improvement just to tax the richest, and not allow politicians to be lobbied and corrupted with support-money - and going after the employers who try to stop labor unions. And of course we shouldn't admire the rich and powerful, either, the authoritarian mindset is rampant in all social classes. Solidarity and decency is an antidote.
