Kenn is homeless in New Orleans. He survives by playing piano on the streets for money.
Kenn was raised in foster care and lived in 17 different foster home placements. Kenn says he was beaten and tortured every day for decades.
Children are easy victims. But of all children, perhaps none are as vulnerable as foster children. Fear prevents them from complaining about abuse or mistreatment. Abusive adults, or sexual predators, can easily physically, and psychologically, overpower them. Neglectful foster parents can negligently allow harm to befall them.
While almost all foster parents are loving, giving, generous people who should be commended for the charitable social service they provide, it is indisputable that some foster parents abuse, mistreat, neglect or mishandle their foster children.
Ask anyone in child welfare about foster youth aging out of the foster care system and you’re sure to hear about everything from high rates of incarceration, early parenting, homelessness, unemployment and discussion about mental health issues.
• Approximately 400,000 youth are currently in foster care in the United States. Approximately 20,000 of those youth age-out each year without positive familial supports or any family connection at all.
• Within 18 months of emancipation, 40-50% of foster youth become homeless.
• Nationally, 50% of the homeless population spent time in foster care.
• A history of foster care correlates with becoming homeless at an earlier age and remaining homeless for a longer period of time.
• 65% of youth leaving foster care need immediate housing upon discharge.
• The National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty estimates that 5,000 unaccompanied youth die each year as a result of assault, illness, or suicide.
Kenn says he has PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder) as a result of the years of abuse. He cannot stay in one place for long. Kenn has been offered housing but the housing was in a bad area with questionable tenants. He didn't feel safe. Kenn says the housing offered to him was similar to the foster homes her was abused in.
Kenn only had one wish: to be happy.

About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as RU-vid, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

This is one individual who makes me wonder, seriously, what he would have been like had he been brought up in a stable household. I think he would have been such a successful person because, despite his situation, he has tenacity. I really hope he does get the success he should have already experienced.

I think that applies to the majority of homeless. If, when they were raised, they had food, shelter, security, and stability, they would have stood just as a good a chance as someone raised by loving and nurturing parents. Maybe they would be more successful and productive than an entitled or spoiled kid.

I feel so bad for every homeless person, especially the ones like this man. If I could, I would find a way to organize a group to help get the abusive foster parents out of the system! Maybe by giving the foster children a voice? A safe place to talk to someone every month to check in on them? And for the children who are being abused, have group homes that are SAFE.....😢

I can only speak from a UK point of view, but here the system itself is corrupt. This is the main problem, the people who should be there to protect are corrupt, some have even been directly involved in supplying children into prostitution. the police then do not take action. Too many people have experienced this outcome. Outsiders who try to help are threatened and harassed by all those agencies, charities are often 'gatekeepers' and equally corrupt. The growing problem of 'forced adoption' is feeding this system, there is also a great financial award attached to taking children from families.

You can apply to be a CASA which is a court appointed special advocate for children in the family court system. In my experience, they don't do much but go along with whatever is wrong, but maybe you can be one to make a difference.

Vox in Tenebris that's terrible😢😢😢 I've heard that those things happen in the US also, and have heard they have taken children from innocent parents. I've known people who had their children taken, but there were reasons for it. I've known people who couldn't be parents to their children and never had them taken... This world is twisted, it's sickening...

Hey Bro I was homeless in Colorado for 3yrs keep your chin up!! question please are you homeless or hopeless I completely understand I have been there. I worked 7 days a week and couldn't save enough money to get into a place. I never gave up I. Knew in my heart that when the time was right things would change and they did. Something you need to think about is....... Everything that alot of people go through are Trials and Tribulations a test you can learn from everything and the most horrible things in your life are going to make you who are today and tomorrow how you handle it is the key it can break you or break you everything is a learning experience. You look like you are in your 50s at 55 social security remove the stipulations for benefits so you might check it out Bless You Bro. Take care and have a great day everyone.

Seems like a nice man. Unfortunately as he stated he can't stay anywhere for too long. This will limit his opportunities to ever obtain a roof over his head permanently. Seems that a month to month rental is best for him if he can be willing to do that. Louisiana is not known to be a state to help no or low income people but he wants to live there. That limits him getting medical help for his hip or housing. He does realize that a motivated homeless person accepting responsibility for his own situation is the key. I hope he'll be able to get a job now that it is warmer so he can rent a small mobile home since that form of having a roof over his head doesn't set off his PTSD. He also needs mental health counseling to deal with his past experiences that could help him not feeling the need to "move on". I fear his situation is very limited living where he wants to live-Louisiana. That really holds him back coupled with his admitted inability to stay put. I wish him well.
@houseofsolomon2440
@houseofsolomon2440 6 лет назад
Jan Warriner yes! Treating the symptom may not be a long-term solution to his situation (i.e. getting a van or R.V. - he identified his physical size as a barrier). His inability to stay in one place not only limits his employment opportunities, it also makes getting public assistance more complicated. Getting his ptsd addressed might be a prudent starting point. He also seems to be holding on to a lot of anger, which makes sense, given his story. His prognosis may not be as bad as some might think: he appears communicative, relatively bright. Maybe he could get a job that involves travel. Thanks.

This man is so correct,a person that is sick or injured , can find absolutely no help , none..you would think recovering from cancer , necrotic bones , heart annerysm, back injuries, ect , worked all my life until I was run over by a drunk...now I'm the one in trouble with no place or help to be found. He's right . Something is wrong in this country.

If it is not, here in Arizona it's $10.50.hr, Jan. 1, 2019 = $11/hr, Jan. 1, 2020 =$12/hr. The state law has been passed & it's difficult to change it. Plus, cost of living is pretty cheap!

I cant even imagine how lonely it would be to not know where your mom and dad are but knowing they are out there . And then on top of that to be homeless with a broken hip trying to get around from place to place hoping to get a meal . I think he would really be happy with a van to live in . Anyone know how to make a go fund me page to help him ? Or maybe locate a van in his area and then fund the car store to pay for it ....Just a thought to get him some shelter since he doesn't want a long term housing situation. I would donate to a van fund.

Homeless at 15 for years I found that I could never stay in a place for very long and finally realised the reason I couldn’t settle down was I needed to find a place that was similar to where I grew up for me it was near the surf as I grew up in that culture, so I think maybe that’s what homeless need is to replicate there ideal cultural place ,like if you grew up in a farming area, unfortunately for me a beach side home was very expensive so I bought an rv and live near the beach that way I’ve had the same job for over 10 years and I’m doing ok . My dream is to buy a house on the beach but that would only happen if I would win the lottery

We need to start looking at Foster Care as the business it is. Our Foster Care System is in the business of raising our society's most vulnerable children (was intended to be a temporary, transitional business--but that's just not reality). Look at the caliber of people WE ARE ALLOWING to nurture and foster our vulnerable children to become healthy, happy, productive adults. We ARE PAYING, via taxes, for many, many, many incompetent "foster parents" to have the ability to abuse (physically, sexually, psychologically, or emotionally) our most vulnerable children. WE (society) are to blame for not demanding better care for innocent, vulnerable children like Ken who depend on US (vocal citizens, taxpayers, etc...) to enable a system that provides best possible outcomes... Less than 1% of children in long-term fostercare ever make it into a college university. LESS THAN 1%!!! There are tons of grants/scholarships waiting to help with their college educations...BUT they're not getting there! Why? Because WE are paying $950+ a month, per child, for ignorant, abusive bozos to take care of them. More than 50% of children in long-term fostercare make it into our prison system. MORE THAN 50%!!! We are paying fu@%jng Bozos to prepare our vulnerable children to become prisoners. And then WE pay, on average--$2,200 a month, for their prison stay. And some estimate a suicide rate for long-term fostercare individuals in the area of 30%. A SUICIDE RATE OF 30%!!!! WTF ARE WE DOING??? WE need to demand a much better Return On our Investment (ROI) for the business of fostering our vulnerable youth. Because WE are systematically abusing, incarcerating, and killing OUR children! Dear Ken, I'm sorry we let you down. No excuses...WE f×@$ing suck! Love, In hopes of a new, intelligent, & compassionate society.

I have spoken with homeless in my city and that is their primary gripe. They make you live downtown in one shelter with drunks and then if they find you a job you spend half the day on buses to get to it. His greatest issue is his desire to make a living by playing the piano. It's not realistic when there is no demand for it.
@DixiePokerAce

I got a solution for all that. Find your own job and your own place to live. Then you don't have to worry about living with drunks or catching buses to your job. Don't wait for other people to do what you can and should do for yourself.

Every homeless man- " i was a space lawyer scientist astronaut time traveler but my wife left so now I'm homeless, don't actually look into it but I've been a doctor for over 700 years too." Mental illness is obviously the main cause of all of this..

People have a story they tell themselves. That's true. But the cause is the lack of affordable housing and the dog-eat-dog system in the US.

Was he ever military? I got off the street. Figuring I'd give it a try. And it's fact. Your opportunities for housing is limited but exist. You'll find a place but what you move into is places where there's families that don't look after their kids, parents that encourage their kids to involve themselves in neighbors lives, not because they're kids but because the parents want reports on neighbors of what they're like, what they have, where they work, without they themselves ( the parents) ever meeting the neighbors. And they summarize in their buildings whose worth meeting( usually for self held views) to 'own' the building. And hack, have their children, hack your phones. Yet tell everyone they're good parents. They're good children, etc. And that's with sex offenders, alcoholics, etc. In what would otherwise be goid buildings. Rental agreements say, respect each other's rights. Coming in from section 8, or outreach vet programs have, ' good place to live', programs. Both amount to nothing. Never met you but know your job, co-workers, income, phone number, ss#, insurance, family problems, etc. Which amounts to only superficial relationships everywhere ( oh, they're fucking right now, ..oh he's jerking off, oh he's in bed, oh he's eating. What the fuck is wrong with these adults and their kids. They're ducked up. So I have some idea what this guy means, when he says who wants to stay in one place, ptsd or not, with assholes like that for 'neighbors '. Rodney Dangerfield use to make a living making jokes if no respect. If he grew up in housing, with a lot of narcisism in them, it's easy to see the source for his comedy material. I've been in housing, the same address twice as long then I figured. But still, as he says, housing in the poverty and poor level, with or without it being physically obvious, sucks.

None of our wishes are granted. The universe, God, or whoever is there, does not grant any of our wishes. The universe or God does not particularly like poor people. I now believed it. Otherwise, billions of people would not exist in this world.
