Made my coconut milk following this recipie! It turned out DELICIOUS!!!! It ended up forming a good layer of fat on top!! This morning I used the coconut milk to cook my steel cut oats and that layer of fat was so firm! I left it to whip up later and use as a dip for strawberries!
I just made this used half the recipe, turned out so good, I'll start doing this more often. I like the idea that half of it is fat on the top, and it's not pasteurized. Instead of a nut milk bag I used a cheese cloth over a 4c glass measuring cup with the strainer underneath - easy and worked out great. I'm now making the coconut flour - thanks for both recipes!
Finally made coconut milk. I've been eyeing this recipe for months and I finally made it! So easy! Added a little piece of vanilla pod that got all blended up with the coconut yumm. Just tasted it now, still warm... sooo good! Delighted. I really dislike the coconut milk I find here in Italy. they always add sugar and stuff.. this is great! Thanks! Trying coconut flour next :)
making fresh coconut milk again today for my oatmeal and fresh berries breakfast! Thank you so much for this recipe! I love how this milk is so creamy and the fact that I know what exactly is in it! Thank you again, healthnutnation! Looking forward for more of your recipes and health ideas!
Wow that WAS easy. And I love this because so often when I go to buy coconut milk or other types of milk they will have oils that I'm allergic to or other ingredients that I can't have. Thank you for this!
I just purchased a coconut to make milk. I never would have thought to make it out of prepackaged coconut shavings. This method seems to be great if fresh coconut is not available or if you use your own grated coconut which was put away for later use... thanks.
Thank you! Been making lots of it all started out as looking for a milk substitute for banana bread, which is delicious with this stuff and a mix of coconut flour almond flour and regular flour!
U speak so sweetly... I loveeee coconut and love to get milk like this.. one suggestion, try to show the Next Day results too for which you give advice to us... Like showing next day fat coming over on the top after refrigerating it!!.. or any other ideas which you give.. even in still pictures form if you don't hv time to... My stomach is dairy intolerant and so I only eat fermented forms like cottage or processed cheese n yogurt etc.. this milk is good.. thank you
Amazing tutorial, one question, what will happened if first turn the coconut flakes to coconut flour and then get the milk out of it, will it give more pure coconut milk?
speaking from a chef standpoint to get the best milk, grate fresh coconut, and squeeze the milk out, takes longer, but I feel it produces a better product...adding water to anything dilutes it...
Brilliant!!! I was just thinking of making coconut milk the last few days. It's like you read my mind 😊 will be brilliant seeing you make coconut flour too 😊 Have you made coconut yogurt? I'm on coconut high 😁 hehe
I like coconut milk because unlike other nut milks coconut milk is free (or very low) in oxylates. It does though seem to go bad faster, at least store bought as compared to the other nut milks - It starts to get frothy.
Advice needed please. I am interested in making my own milks (almond, coconut, oat etc...) I wanted to make coconut milk this week. My only concern is that every recipe I have seen so far for making coconut milk asks for the coconuts to be mixed with hot/boiling water and then blended. Unfortunately, the type of blender I have does not allow me to blend hot contents unless I wish to burn myself...... Do you know how I can get around this issue? Can I let the coconuts sit in the hot water and then blend once its cooled, or does it have to blend hot ?
Thank you HealthNutNation for this awesome video!!! It looks so easy to make this coconut milk! Im anxious to try!!! Just a question though, is it a must to use boiling water? Can I soak my coconut flakes in room temperature water overnight or for a few hours instead to preserve the vitamins? Thank you so much!
@@jeffreyblatt951 Anything over 118 degrees farenheit I'm told starts to annihilate the enzymes thus not making it qualify (at least to a raw foodist) as a raw (living) food.
Thanks for the recipe! I thought I'd have to go and buy myself a coconut from the markets for this lol, didn't know it'd be this simple. I'm going to try it tonight :)
Hi, Can I make it by boil the coconut with the water on the cooker and let them for 5 minutes on the fire and when they get warm not hot to mix them with the mixer can I do this Or By this way I spoil the coconut ???
Can i make with the remaining coconut another batch, for a light coconut milk? Thanks for your videos. I buy a mix of almond and coconutmilk, maybe i try to do this
HealthNutNation So easy! 2 cups filtered water, 1 cup ripe/frozen bananas, 1/2 tsp of vanilla and 1-2 dates. You can double the recipe if needed. So delicious! :)
Dear HealthNutNation, do you have a recipe for making veginaise with grape seed oil? I buy mine at Richards and it pretty pricey there. I hope you have a recipe for making it at home! Thank you for all you do!
The canned coconut milk is basically the same thing, only with a lot less water added. They also add thickeners sometimes like guar gum or Xanthan gun. You could either add less water or refrigerate it and scoop the hardened fat off the top along with some of the water. Hope that helps!
tried dried coconut flakes, soaking first.. seems like the flakes dont absorb the water, not matter how long I leave it soaking. and if I do it w/o soaking, the milk comes out very thin, and hardly any coconut flavor ..btw, I used the same you are using. so now I use frozen chunks from Trader, works much better but still not as strong as when I use fresh coconut
If you have a fine-mesh strainer as you do you do not need a funnel or enough bag. I have been making nut and grain milks forever and never used a funnel or a nut bag nor did I ever have gritty milk.
what's the point in using hot water? anything heated is just destroying goodness. Secondly, I made some using as little water as possible as I want actual coconut milk, not water diluted coconut milk, so I used JUST enough water for the blender to work properly. However it's set pretty hard in the fridge lol. is the only way to get around this simply adding more water? Do you think it would set if we used young coconut water instead of normal water?
the function of water is to "pull out" the "milk" from coconut, i.e. extraction. If you are using too little water, it becomes saturated, too much solute, so yeah, it's better to add more water. And don't use coconut water, otherwise it won't be coconut milk
and hot water = higher extraction rate, especially with fatty content except if you use organic solvent (which, seriously). That, or you just deal with less effective extraction, which makes it less efficient in terms of cost and energy you are using
Nooooo use a fresh coconut! It’s a bit more work but very much worth it. I take the coconut meat and combine with the coconut water in a nutribullet and blend for a minute or so. Then I put it all in a nut milk bag and squeeze. It’s so easy and unbelievably delicious!
The recipe is daaaamn good but pay attention when you pouring freshly boiled water into plastic vessels coz it can bring out some unnecessary chemicals. Better use a glass jar or bowl and after it cools a bit just blend it as you normally do
Why isn't it separating for me? Is it because it's too cold where I live? I thought in another video you mentioned that it's cold where you live as well
Yes, I wish that Vitamix would make a glass container for just this reason. Please note that one could have the coconut in a glass bowl, add the boiled water, let it sit and steep for 10 minutes or so and then blend it.
