@@Corrocon every time we make tortillas, we all have a buttered tortilla before we actually eat our meal. I wouldn’t even call it a tradition. It is more like an undeniable urge lol
My Nana made homemade tortillas. She'd smear a little bit of butter, then sprinkle on a bit of brown sugar, as a treat for us kids. Wonderful memories, as she's been gone since 1974.
Growing up un the 70s, my mom used plain squishy white bread, buttered and sprinkled with sugar and folded over. My dad said that was called GI pie in the Army.
3 Cups of ap flour 1tsp salt 1 1/4 tsp baking powder 1/3C melted butter 1C hot water... 💙🩵🤍 Jose had put the full recipe in the video description , but for those who missed it...❤
I made these tortillas and I had one problem. Made every shape with them except round. Triangles, rectangle, trapezoid, yup 🤣 They tasted delicious of course. Nice job 👍🏽
Just tried it on my own. Thank you so much. I appreciate what you do. I'm a Texan, so a lot of people here appreciate the extra mile of homemade tortillas. Thank you!
If Jose were to put out a cookbook- I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Not necessarily for the recipes, but the unique commentary he drops alongside the cooking knowledge
If only there was somewhere he could make like videos or something like that. Then we could hear his commentary on all the different foods he cooks and techniques he teaches us. Maybe one day...
Thank you. I have tried to make tortillas like Mom, and Grandma for years. Finally, tonight was a success. They used lard. I used the butter this time. Thank you.
Man I remember eating my grandma homemade tortillas growing up, they needed nothing but a little butter! Brings back great memories. She passed away last year, miss her ❤ thanks for sharing
May she rest in peace. I never had a “grandmother-granddaughter” bond with my grandmas or grandpas, they live in Mexico but my mom’s parents died a few years back 😕
I've tried a few of your recipes/suggestions already and you have yet to disappoint. You do great work and the energy you bring to every video really lightens the mood. Thank you for sharing!
I love that you did it without a tortilla press; I want to eventually make tortillas but thought the press was a required part of the process so can't wait to follow this recipe at some point!
I always used a pan. Just put some plastic wrap ( I use a ziploc bag) on the bottom of a pan so it doesn't stick and roll into a ball and press down. Kinda like a smash burger
Works better if you use a heavier pan like a cast iron but any pan works really. If you use a ziploc bag just cut it so you have 2 pieces of square plastic. 1 on the counter, 1 on the bottom of the pan
Dude, I convinced my mom not to go to the store anymore to buy bread because of your video abut the loaf of bread. Thank you very much, and I'm definitely convincing her to not buy tortillas because of you. I love cooking, so thank you for that❤
I hope you convinced your mom not to go to the store to buy any loaves of bread or tortillas because you stepped up to the plate and volunteered to make all of that stuff from scratch yourself, fuh real!
@@SkidrowP2 I haven't seen the blue cap emoji before (or just didn't notice it) but Googled it and oh my, that's funny! And true! You and the first person who dropped the blue 🧢 cap called it! 🤣😁👍

I'm East African and I live in egypt never had authentic Mexican food and there are only few resturants made only by Egyptians they are not the real deal. I started to to learn how to make tortillas at home a week ago and I love them❤❤❤

Happy New Year! & May this year be soo prosperous that you say MamaChristine Who????? 😂😂😂😂😂😂Stay well Always & Always ~Christine
Bro, as someone who tries to live a clean life and also with kids, one of my favorite things, I appreciate is how your videos are mature/clean. No foolish/unnecessary language. Can learn great lessons and watch with the kids at the same time. Much blessings homey
Yeah I watch many things with swearing but some of these cooking videos are getting out have hand. I want to learn a recipe not watch a South Park episode
Same for corn tortillas. Nothing better than butter with a pinch of salt! Takes me to My Childhood with my Abuela and Tia! Soooo good that sometimes I was full from just eating tortillas!
You have not disappointed me yet ... in fact, I would say you just keep getting better and better and better. Keep up the good work! We really appreciate it!
I love cooking my lunches for work, and also all the prep work that goes into it. Watching your content makes me want to add fresh tortillas especially when I saw your salsa video. Definitely going to try this out!!!
Man my momma used to make homemade tortillas just like this almost every morning before she went to work. Such a hardworking woman. I love her and miss her so much. Thank you for posting this. Brought so many memories ❤❤
Dude I stumbled upon your channel like a week ago and I’m so glad I did. You’re one of the most genuine content creators out there and you do everything in such an informative, relaxing manner. Keep it up. You’re the man. 🤙🏼
You’re AWESOME bro. Cuz you explain shit for people with ADD in a jiffy!!! And break it down in an easy to digest way (no pun intended) That takes SKILLZZZ homie!!!
Yep! Although it does typically does refer to corn tortilla dough, the word masa in Spanish literally just means “dough” so it could be used to refer to any dough.
We used to go to my great grandma and grandpa's on new years to make tamales. She referred to the corn dough as masa, but tortilla dough as... dough. The same with my grandparents. The term masa was saved for corn only in my family.
In Mexico it’s just flour, salt, warm water, and a lil Manteca. I have never seen someone make tortillas with baking powder or butter but they look pretty good tho just a lil too thick
This is the way my grandma makes them and she was raised in the New Mexico/Colorado area. I do think the thinner tortillas are better for burritos/folding but these are better for sopping up sauces
Thank you. I just made it and it’s better than the store bought. I made the size of a street tacos. I have a weighing scale and measured 28 grams per shell. I used a pasta maker to flatten them, setting is 7 and it came out perfect.
Eyeball it lol that’s how the best tortillas are made. Each time it will be different, it’s more about the consistency and texture of the dough that’s important. Also don’t use hot water use warm…hot will fuck it up
That's what I'm trying to eyeball from the measuring cup. My guess is 1 3/4 c water and 2/3 c butter. Don't add all of the water at first just in case it's too much. But I hope we get actual measurements 🤞
@dyduty I thought so too, that's why I said not to put all of it in at once. Maybe the first cup then 1/4 cup at a time. It looked like he had a 16 Oz (2 cup) measuring cup.
Everyone here says their abuela but my tia Dora was the flour tortilla master. I always loved watching her make them. She made it look so effortless and they always came out amazing. Any time she was making them, I was around watching and taking them hot off the comal. I don't think I'll ever make them like she did, but I will never give up!
I would love to see a simple ingredient tamale recipe for bean and cheese. I’m poor so I never have much. Thank you for this easy recipe I make right now! Blessings to you and your family!
Dude! Finally made this recipe, so awesome and easy and delicious...made the best from scratch enchiladas we've ever had! Thank you for teaching. Never purchasing from store again! 🧡🧡
These are thicker like a Texas/Chihuahua style tortilla. Sonoran tortillas like I grew up with are much thinner. Similar ingredients (though baking pow isn’t always used in Sonora) but rolled thinner. Also, lard will help ensure the tortilla stays chewy/flexible when rolled so thin. Butter/shortening tend to make it crispy when rolled thinly.
This recipe has been my go-to for months now. Once a week I follow this recipe to make a huge batch to use for wraps, quesadillas, tacos, or to bake for wheat nachos chips.
For anyone without a rolling pin, i put a tiny bit of vegetable oil on a plate and just pressed the dough out like pizza dough. Tortillas were a little thicker than normal, but still hella good
I have tried multiple tortillas recipes and they never turn out! This one is the first to actually work! I will probably make these every week for the rest of my life 😂
I made your recipe!!! Mi familia loved it!! I'm Chilean so we don't eat tortillas regularly but the dough was so good my mom says we will use the recipe to make empanadas next time :)) thanks for sharing
