Around the world more goats are used for pulling and packing than ponies. Just FYI. As long as you're careful not to overload them, they do quite well. Bet you object to dog sleds, too. Goats are stronger than dogs.

ytmom BIG goats yes, not miniature goats. Here dog sleds are only allowed when pulled by husky or malamute. No mix, no other breeds. And there's a bloody good reason for it.

But a miniature goat pulling a child's wagon with some tomatoes is certainly not going to overload it. I'm not having them pull logs, for goodness sake! Just something different and fun for them to do.

@@Saartje05 I know this is years ago, but that is a dumb law. Many breeds can pull dog sleds. You would not want to run pugs, but a lot of non husky breeds are popular. People have German Short Hair Pointers pulling sleds. There is a team of Malinois dogs. My German Shepherd pulls sleds. I have a Siberian husky and a husky malinois mix dog that pull sleds. That's really stupid, because most competing sled dogs in the Iditarod are mixed breed dogs. There is not a good reason for that law, someone who knows nothing made that. Mixed breed dogs are more popular in competitions than pure bred Malamutes and Siberians.

Alternatively, do a 3 wheeler instead of a 2 wheeler. It decreases mobility some, but takes the weight off the animal's back. A well designed 2 wheeler won't put weight on the back either, but as a starting project a 3 wheeler is probably safer. Also, bigger wheels will tend to handle bumps and ruts more easily. (I realize this video is old. ;-) )

wildonemeister No it's not, you can clearly see the cart is out of balance. It has nothing to do with being an adult on not, it has to do with the cart being in balance or not. And it's clearly not.

+wildonemeister Saartje05 is right. The wheels need to be placed further ahead to distribute more of the child's weight behind the wheel.

True! The shafts are incredibly heavy for this purpose. The shafts of a racing sulky pulled by half-ton horses, are very thin and light, even made of hollow aluminium sometimes. Also, those shafts are far too long for a small animal like this, with the extra forward weight of the shafts hanging down on the goat's back. Shafts should end behind the shoulder but just in front of the girth. When a finger is put under the part of the shaft where it attaches to the harness, holding it up at the height of the harness,, if the cart is well-balanced, almost no weight will be felt on the hand. Good idea to give a goat a new career, but bad application of the principles.

Well it's a good thing the tires are taking ~80% of the weight load then. Open your eyes, the goat clearly isn't struggling.
