Now that would be a great idea...that way maybe we could convert a vehicle which we actually liked to be electric & couple it to a REMOVABLE & USER EXCHANGEABLE battery. We don't need a new design of vehicle, we just need a power train for our existing vehicles!

That's a concern, but it is successfully handled in various heavy trucks and buses now using this sort of design. A related issue is that motors at any serious power level require liquid cooling, and that means flexing coolant hoses.

You think it would be better to have a spinning drive shaft move instead of stationary cables? Do you realize how often cv axles and u joints go out? Specially with the amount of torque electric motors have.

I would of converted the axle/diff casing to take VW Beetle type cv joints/drive shafts then put it in a light weight front wheel drive car... fiesta etc add a 20kw battery above the motor in engine bay 10kw where fuel tank was, use blue plastic barrel cut in to sheet to protect the battery under car it should give a 100 mile range ec car conversion :):)

The offset doesn't seem like a problem to me, but the unsprung mass certainly hurts handling and ride. This design is only used on low-speed and commercial vehicles, not on passenger cars that need to ride and handle well.
