As the world's foremost vidjayo critiqueist I only have 2 critiqueisms. He shouldn't have said anything at all, ["I brought you some flowers" the only human dialog] and he should have had a rooster crow following the lighter lit hacksaw scene.
It wasn't about the pen holder.... It was all about displaying the precious gift of sage brush from his precious Daughter. Well done Big Daddy. Well done..
@@Jakefrc The shop at my college was closed when I was working on a project for the schools race car and I had to cut some decently thick stuff, but the band saw in the garage was garbage and took an hour and a half what took my 30 minutes with the hacksaw, it was a good workout too lol.
There was me feeling stupid - thinking I don't know why I'm watching this - i have absolutely no idea what this part or thing is for that he is machining but I just love your vids so I keep watching.... most satisfying and heart warming end ever. Brilliant.
Until the last few seconds, I couldn't figure out if this was a shop tour of the empire of dirt or a This Old Tony video without all the talking. But the end made it all worth it!
So my My dad teaches the elechicken trade at trade school. He has a length of 80mm dia. EN8 Axle Shaft in the shop. When the apprentice in class can't stay off their cellphones, they have to cut two, 1" pucks of the shaft using a hack-saw. Normally after that they rather leave the cellphone at home entirely than bring it to class and risk the temptation.
@@ASAKLR he definitely grew up in a different era. I think being 72 and still teaching and conducting trade tests is testimony to his dedication in teaching the younger generations, and transferring a lifetime worth of skill.
I'm so proud of myself for not jumping ahead as the suspense was KILLING me. As a father of two daughters.... loved the flowers gift from your baby at the beginning and COMPLETELY understand the work/time on this project! Worth the wait!
i thought this title said "machining chili" at first and was very excited to see where this was going to go. we gonna have a teardown of the deaded makita?
@@arduinoversusevil2025 That's how I killt my Makita drill. Didn't have the impact handy, tight spot, short on time, etc etc. Drills don't wanna drive lag bolts! They'll do it, but they don't wanna.
@@arduinoversusevil2025 That's the way my (well, the boss', if we're being snickety about it) Hilti TE6 bit the dust. Not driving a bridgeport, mind, but driving a 32mm bit through 80cm of tree carcass. "Oh, that smells like she's getting a bit ho - oh, goddamnit"
I reckon about 2 bottles of replacement Makita smoke might get it going again. Good to see the old Bridgeport back in action, when did it get the V6 upgrade?
That loose sleeve hanging low over a spinning lathe at 4:03 had me a bit nervous. I must be getting old. Stay safe, friend, we want many more years of fun two-fisted videos.
First thing I saw, and it made me shudder a bit. I've seen too many pictures and videos online of shit going wrong in 1.3 seconds. Glad someone else said it.
This video had everything, chickadee giving Ave some unprocessed vittles, unidentifiable machining techniques, a filthy latrine, letting the smoke out of a makita, and good fathering 9/10
You should use this to hold some flowers at her wedding. She would smile knowing the time and effort you had spent way back in 2021 when she was a little girl.
After 8 years of spurious life choices I cleaned my workbench for the first time today, just to come in here and find my level of home wastemanship is still amateur compared to the proper youtube professionals. Well done.
For some reason I was convinced you were using the brass shim as a cutter. Sort sad to be disabused of this near the end. More machining and chill! Sorta like lo-fi machine noises to study and relax to.
First This Old Tony is back. Then, the return of The Clapped-Out Bridgeport to the EoD. And a BOLTR-style "let me magic smoke out" to finish... Is it Christmas already?
@@zack4president Just buy harbor freight everything, then you wont be disappointed. When it breaks you can just say "I expected that." Maybe you get a surprise and say "wow it lasted longer than expected"..Something satisfying about watching this guy smoke a Makita.
Somebody broke my z handle with the forklift so I jb welded it to a socket until the replacement showed up. I love it and use it almost daily. I call it my z rapid
Love the part where he avoided the jank vice handle, just as I do! Also, proper equipped "break area" with the same oldschool blonde and neon wrench. Picturesque perfection. Was expecting more dad noises at that part, lmao!
MAD Magazine taught it to me as: "...please be neat and wipe the seat." There's also the time-tested highway-mans' lament: "Now I sit here broken-hearted; paid my dime but only farted."
I just changed the Stator in my dewalt chainsaw based on your tear down of that chain saw. Aaaahh it works great! The part was $27. I couldn’t have done it without your video. Thank you!!
When you were cutting that brass bar I swear I had it figured out..... With 95% of it cut through with the hacksaw you were going to switch it over and finish it off with the band saw. .....damn, your so unpredicktable. 😁
can we all just take a moment to appreciate the over engineered solution to a first world problem. i congratulate you sir. much love and snapped bits from across the pond.
One of my favourite shop tools is a reciprocating saw which must date back to the 50s... A very cheap fleabay purchase. It's had a motor swap, the jaws repaired, all the safety systems bypassed etc, but as a tool you can leave with a task and go make a nice cuppa, it just can't be beat. The crash of off-cut stock falling onto the floor is a useful "job complete" notification.
Re the brass chips deflector, I saw someone suggest turning the cutter upside down and running the lathe in reverse. The brass chips then go down not up! :-) Also gives the operator a better view of things.
The effort put forth for something so simple can be incredible...therapeutic even. Sure theres many other ways to get the same result much easier, but when its for something so dear and personal, the effort is underminded in such a way that it really doesnt matter. This video hit home on so many levels. I fuckin love your vids man. Keep doing what youre doing!
And it still shouldn't have smoked. Should have protection. I use my DeWalt for far more strenuous activities than that, and it'll cut off, but definitely won't destroy itself. Junk.
@@littlejackalo5326 5" of power thrust should be enough to get the job done! His end-mill is a mite bit shorter than the showcased poster wrench, but judging by how far down the sharpie goes in the finished product, it's only 3" pocket. Congratulations to you and the missus on your DeWalt with thermal overload protection.
Always enjoy the vijeos. But man, the shot of the public accommodations had me howling. It brought back some long supressed episodes in my life. Thank god we ain't got Smellovision.
All this effort for sumthin that shoulda been satisfied with a large caliber artillery shell... still watched, weep'd for the Makita and such, so all in all, a good show!
You must be an outside contractor. Went and convinced the accountants that $12,000, including parts and labor, was a screaming deal for a pencil holder.
