This is a log lift I built for my dad. I was testing it without the front support leg installed. The weight of the wedge going forward was just enough to tip it. Bet I wont do that again!
Nice lift! I have the same splitter and was looking for ideas on an lift for it. On a positive note, having it tip over gave me an idea of how you attached the return line! Ide be lying if I said thats never happened to me...
Nice fab on the lift ! 👍 Hey don’t feel bad about the tip over. I learned the hard way too. Took the same splitter detached it from my quad to do a vertical split on some 3ft rounds of wh oak. Tilted her back down and had a helper put a large round on her and she tipped over. Didn’t even think to hook her up back on the quad before the split. Nobody got hurt. Oh well 💩 happens !
And......mine did the same. I went to a hoist mounted in the middle of the cylinder. Not as quick or cool but centers the weight better. The horizontal/vertical action of the design make them unstable.
At least you didn't have the hitch come up and smash you in the face like someone I know did...... alright....it was me. But hey, a set of double black eyes is a great conversation starter.

That is such a great design and you certainly will make the improvements to refine it! We went through a similar project but ended up with a jib crane lift. The nice thing is that it pulls the log to the splitter too. Then lifts, positions and holds the wood for splitting. Please check it out. @UCLhUuK3G5fRmntum38NObRw . it is a Gorillabac log lift and easily hooks to a pickup truck hitch for loading wood or deer too.
And thus you see how force applied to high center of gravity over an unsupported area equals .....thar she goes!!!!! Is why it's always beat to have a jack stand handy if your truck isn't readily available.
Don't you hate when that happens. Nice lift though, throw some legs on the back or keep it hooked up buddy, good luck man you got this COOL BE CAREFUL THAT SHIT IS NOT A TOY IT WILL HURT YOU AND KEEP GOING PERIOD.
