you are not only a good looking guy but a really fantastic inventor and builder. I kept thinking I had to have a Southbend or something. I first bought what I thought was an old rusty lathe but then I bought a 200 year old pedal lathe that was converted to an electric motor lathe. I gave that to my fined so he could use it while I found a Southbend. I finally found one and it is really awesome. Now I have time to go and loo at my priest buy and it is a Solid Brass Lathe. It is ship lathe from 1836. Just incredible. I want to use the ways and just bring it up to date with a headstock and tailstock of modern use.
Friggin awesome! That lathe is a beast. I've been watching a lot of lathe build videos while gearing up to build my own. I'm glad I stumbled on your series. To my eye this is a very basic, albeit stoutly built machine. The videos have really helped me to understand all of the parts and functionality of them. As well as a nice example of how to build each piece strong enough to withstand any catastrophic event. Thanks!
Bro I've been watching all your video on the homemade lathe. And it is the best I've seen yet. For someone who use only hand tools, not those fancy big machineries. Wish I could build one, but just of the lack of material which are rare to get and also expensive to buy..... But very nice job and and great finishing. Which make me wonder if you're going to paint it later on.
When the apocalypse comes and planet earth has been reduced to nothing more than dust and memories; somewhere out there in the cosmos this lathe will be floating around completely intact with a sprinkling of small planets orbiting around it. It will be the densest object in the known universe..
AH HA ! Extremely WELL DONE ! now bevel the edges of the tailstock so you don't cut your elbow to the bone ! ( you will hit it!) Did you get the power feed going yet ? you need to consider Slower speeds on intermittent cuts ! saves your cutting tool ! Bob......
This lathe, it's the best DIY built one I've seen. Great work, you must have used 100's of grinding disks on it. Do you work from plans or design as you go? Thanks for sharing.
friend, I loved your project it seems the only one that has some precision, I am interested in doing, can you tell me, after so much time of use lost precision? did you do everything using that grinding machine?
