Make your own air dry using three ingredients you (probably) already have in your kitchen! I have created several of my favorite clay lessons out of this clay and it is perfect if you are stuck at home without your art supplies.
-Baking Soda 2 cups
-Cornstarch 1 cup
-Water 1 1/4 cups
My favorite store bought air dry clay:
Amaco Marblex Gray Clay - 5 lb
www.dpbolvw.ne...
Amaco Mexican Pottery Clay - 5 lb

Cold porcelain is definitely stronger and just as easy to make and it's not stick or crumbly. I have things I made 20 years ago with homemade cold porcelain and it's still hard as a rock.

**** IF YOU'RE EXPERIENCED IN POLYMER CLAY; PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ @LEAST THE 4 NOTATED QUESTIONS THAT I LAID OUT & REPLY W/ANY ADVICE YOU HAVE!!!**** I'm desperate for help and all the RU-vid tutorials I have gone through don't seem to answer any of the following questions, at least not in a way that would be applicable to this project. So fingers crossed that someone or multiple people that come through this video's comment section are able to provide me with some helpful input/ recommendations/tips/Etc that are applicable to this specific project of mine. ** ATTEMPT AT BULLET POINT SUMMARY:** 1) will this clay work to make a reusable polymer clay mold for a small plastic doll? 2) do you have any other suggestions for creating molds for polymer clay without having to use silicone? Definitely not hot glue or Play-Doh though, what I've seen of hot glue it doesn't seem to catch the fine details like lips, knows, ears, finger definition Etc and what I've seen with Play-Doh is that it cracks and crumbles when it dries 3) does anyone have any tips in general regarding the making of and using molds with polymer clay? 4) very importantly, please comment with any suggestions regarding types of sealant/ glaze/coating/ etc, that will provide strong protection from breakage. The polymer items I will be making, see below for details, are going to be keychains which makes them extremely prone to being damaged or broken especially by careless children tossing their backpacks around and cramming them into their cubbies Etc. So I really need to find sealant that will create a very strong protective barrier around the object making it as close to being unbreakable as possible. ---------------------------------------- Due to Medical issues, the first comment I typed up here was extremely long with a lot of tangents and over explaining and details. So I copied and cut it out and then spent a good 4 hours ( at the least) just trying my best to pair down the info, summarize it into 4 questions making them as short as I could, and trying to break the information down into more manageable bits that hopefully make it easier to skim. However I did paste my super long and rambling original comment into the first reply for this new edited down comment (as opposed to just deleting it) because there is a lot of details and information in my original post that a person may find useful to know so that they can make the best recommendation possible based on the specifics of my new project. And I also explain a little bit of what I mean by "neuro health issues" . I also decided to put it in the reply section because I don't know, some people might be curious and want to read the entire CHAPTER BOOK of my backstory behind all this 🤦‍♀️ (AKA my original comment 🤷‍♀️)lol However I want to make it clear that I do not in any way shape or form expect anyone to be reading my original comment and I don't want people to feel pressured to do so. Honestly even if you just read (and reply with any suggestions to) my four noted questions, that would be fantastic so amazingly appreciated. **IF you are interested in reading/scanning/ skimming my original INSANELY long and detailed post; then PLEASE CLICK THE REPLY LINK & SCROLL UP TO THE FIRST REPLY. Once you open the first reply, you should be able to see my original long and detailed comment.

INSANELY LONG RAMBLING ORIGINAL MESSAGE : I desperately want to make a mold for a little mini plastic doll, I think they're called LOL dolls, and I'm trying to find a way to make a mold so that I can make multiple versions of it out of my Polymer clay without having to shape each doll 100% by hand. But all the things I see out there for making molds are all about using silicone and I don't want to have to go out and buy silicone and mess with all that. I'd rather try and make something out of household stuff to turn into a mold. So, that all being said, do you think if I made this homemade clay and kind of made two round balls that I could push the front of the doll into the first ball of clay deep enough to cover a little bit more than half of her body vertically speaking like the front and the back not the top and the bottom. And then to take the backside of the doll and push it into the second ball of clay. Then bake the chunks of this clay that I had pushed the doll into. And then once the clay is cool and hard after being baked I can take my polymer clay and smash it into the mold I just made so that I can create multiple versions of the same exact doll shape? Can anyone speak to whether this clay could be used to do that? Or does anyone know of any other ideas, tricks, or hacks in order to make a mold of a 3D plastic doll (with its hair covered/protected) that I can then use polymer clay to smash into the mold in order to then create numerous versions of the doll with the same exact body shape and size and most especially facial features. And once again, I want to create a mold WITHOUT HAVING TO USE ANY KIND OF SILICONE or any kind of fancy silicone-like product either for that matter. I'm wanting to be able to use items that you can normally find in a pantry or somewhere else. I've seen people talking about using hot glue gun, play-doh, or clay itself to make the molds. From what I can tell all the ones made with the hot glue or awful at picking up on mine details like facial features of a little doll their mouths and eyes Etc. And then regarding Play-Doh I worry that even after the Play-Doh dries it will be more crumbly with cracks in it which would be problematic in using it for a mold. So this leaves me with using clay which I am 100% happy to try out but I hate the idea of using up any of my Polymer clay to make a mold just because of how expensive the polymer clay gets. Which is why I've been searching for ways to make clay from scratch using run-of-the-mill ingredients that comes out after baking smooth enough and without cracks or crumbles and that it also retains all of the little feature details on the face. So I'm wondering if anyone has tried using this recipe of clay in order to make a mold and how it turned out. And I would also greatly welcome and greatly appreciate any tips pointers or hacks that you guys can give me when it comes to creating your own molds and making items in those molds so that they turn out looking really nice. I do already know about using some form of Vaseline or chapstick or maybe even coconut oil and or a Sprinkle of cornstarch all together, or a mixture of some, or even just one of the above prior to using the mold to make a polymer clay object so that the polymer clay comes out easily from the mold. But that's all I know.

Hi Charlotte! This is the cauliflower rice of clay, it’s a great DIY substitute, but it has its limitations. I would not recommend using this for small pieces like on a doll or figurine. This works best for squatty or thicker pieces that don’t require small or fine pieces sticking off. I have made clay cupcakes, clay cactus plants and a mostly flat clay mask with great success. Anything small with fine details would not work well. Jewelry or keychains would better be used with a commercial clay of some sort that’s can withstand more of a beating! I hope that answers some of your questions!

@ThatArtTeacher
@ThatArtTeacher Год назад
It is air dry! Pieces I’ve made in 2020 are still completely safe and in tact. I like to compare this to cauliflower rice. It is a good thing, but it’s a substitute. I probably wouldn’t sell anything with it, I’ve used it in classrooms and for hobby art. There are some commercial great air dry clay our there (Amaco brand is my favorite) that would be better for selling items.

I might be wrong, but you made paper clay! Paper clay tends to be more fluffy and is pretty cheap, while Resin clay/ Cold porcelain is more smooth and when it dries it feels more expensive. Paper clay softens with water, while CP/resin clay softens with acrylic paint.

I may be wrong as well, but doesn’t paper clay have some sort of paper/fiber pulp in it?

I need a tip I did everything but mine is too soft it is not molding into anything when I do it just acts like kinetic sand
@ThatArtTeacher
@ThatArtTeacher 3 года назад
Keep it on the heat for longer! Keep stirring until it forms one large mass and feels like firm mashed potatoes. Let the rag sit over it until it cools and that will help absorb extra moisture!

It depends on your climate and how thick it is. At least 24 hours and slow is best to avoid cracking 💛
