This might be one of the Best tutorial I've seen for diy air dry clay. You gave clear instructions and even told us how many days it takes for the clay to fully cure. I really liked how you compared both the cook and non-cook method with their pros and cons. You deserve more subs, there's no way you're this underrated!
@ronans.2340
@ronans.2340 Год назад
Also, can you reduce the time or curing by using a hair dryer or some sort? I'm making a sculpture for my gf's project which is due on Tuesday. I'm planning on making the sculpture a bit big so i kinda worry it wouldn't cure on the day of submission.

if its possible for you to use aluminum foil or paper as a base and just use clay on the surface of your sculpture that could help reduce the time it takes to cure. putting my works in front of an electric fan helps it cure faster. using hair dryer sounds possible but not sure how well that works so i suggest you try that with a small amount of clay first.

Very nice and precise video. Thank you for this. I tried the cooked clay and while drying the sculpt is getting curved. How do I get that fixed.
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts 4 года назад
Thank you so much! 💖 The clay has to be entirely exposed to air while drying. If your piece has a flat back, you may use a mesh or silk screen to dry it. Flip the piece from time to time to prevent it from curving. If the piece is rounded, you may hang it or stick it to a stand if possible to keep its shape. :)

Hello, thank you very much for the awesome tutorial. I tried your recipe and even though it didn't pass the raindrop test, it dried really strong and could easily remedy the cracks and what not. My second batch became too soft and I made blocks of them at first, then made sculptures via carving. But I have a problem with molds during the rainy season here in the Philippines. I panicked and ended up throwing away my airdry sculptures and the few blocks I wanted to carve. How do I prevent molds from forming? Was there a way to remove the molds from the sculptures?
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts 2 года назад
thank you! glad it worked well for you 😊 as for the molds, adding white vinegar or lemon juice should help prevent them. making sure your hands and anything that comes into contact with the clay is clean will prevent that from happening too. hope this helps! im from ph too and never really experienced my clays getting molds even though they've been on storage for a long time. and unfortunately, you can't really save clays that already has molds. even if you remove them, they will just grow back :/

What a brilliant and lovely tutorial, thank you! I'm thinking about making a square plant pot, do these clays dry flat when rolled thin (maybe ½-1cm), or does it bow/curl?
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts Год назад
thank you Rachel! glad you appreciate it 💖 i don't really recommend using air dry clay for plant pots or anything with moisture since it's possible that the clay might soften even if it's sealed. however, you can use it as an outer layer or for decoration for like a plastic pot for example. to answer your question though, yes it can dry flat but it depends on the way you let it cure. make sure to flip it several times to let all areas get exposed to air while it's drying.
@AuntieRachelsChaoticKitchen
@@zainclayarts perfect, thank you! My plan is to use it as an "outer"; have a pot inside it, and possibly even glue a thick plastic bag inside
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts Год назад
in that case, be sure to get rid of air bubbles and be on the lookout for some cracking due to shrinkage. good luck on your project! hope it'll turn out great 😊

@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts 4 года назад
Hmm.. your clay is probably a bit dry/ a little overcooked. There are two methods you can try to fix that. One is to sprinkle some water to the clay and store it in an air tight container. let the clay absorb the water for several hours or leave it overnight. Another method is to mix a small amount of oil + glue + cornstarch following the same ratio and then mix that with the cooked clay. I suggest you test out those two methods on a small amount of clay first to see which works better. I hope that helps and thank youu 😁💖

Hi, just a quick question. Thank you for the brilliant tutorial, but, I have been making a polymer air dry "picture" which will be attached to slate. I did not add colour as I made it, as I wanted to be able to paint shades, making it "pop" out.... is this ok to do? I have a varnish made for polymer to complete it. Should I continue, or start again with mixing the colours to clay before shaping it? Thanks
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts 3 года назад
yes that's totally fine! for the varnish though, i think it's best to search if your varnish is compatible with the paint you're using coz sometimes varnishes can dissolve the paint and smudge it all over :)

Thank you for a great tutorial. How durable is it and can I use it in silicone molds? Thank you.
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts Год назад
thick pieces made with this clay are pretty durable. if you can add some kind of base or support inside, that will make your pieces much more durable. and yes, you can use them with silicone molds. apply oil on the molds so it wont stick

Tysm! I coudnt find the comparison anywhere, and I really needed it, also I like the way you made the video, it was very informative and I liked the graphics very much. I just want to ask one question tho, im making, pendants with my bff and I wanted to ask which is thr best for making them, cooked or non- cooked clay? Thankyou!
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts 3 года назад
Hi Navya! I'm not quite sure if you've watched the summary part but I already mentioned there that cooked clay is "generally" better. There's also a comparison part between the two which shows and explains the differences and why cooked clay is better. Please watch those parts for more info. Timestamps are available in the description and pinned comment. Thank you! :)

Very informative. My clay got overcooked and rubbery. Same quantity undercooked clay should be used to rectify it ??
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts 2 года назад
that depends on how dry your overcooked clay is. if you're unsure, there's really no harm in mixing a lot of undercooked clay with it. your clay will just be softer and you can just air dry it a little to get the right consistency.

Hi.. Nice n well explained tutorial. I have a doubt, the clay I made is little translucent when it gets dried. How to get opaque white clay?
@Umezr
@Umezr 4 года назад
Cold porcelain dries translucent, you can add white paint to it.
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts 4 года назад
Thank you! Yes, @Farheen Yaseen is right. This type of clay is translucent when it dries. You may use acrylic paint or poster paint to add color to it. Just mix it directly with the clay after it's set.

Hi, Loved the tutorial. Had no idea what the differences where between cooked and non-cooked. You explained things very well. I do have a question, does either one shrink considerably after dried?
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts 2 года назад
shrinkage depends on how much moisture is left in the clay after you sculpted it so i dont think any of them shrinks more than the other. generally, adc shrinks about 10-20%.

May I ask if you suggest a separate pan for clay cooking only? or the ones in the kitchen would do? BTW, Nice editing and very precise content. I love it!

Aww thank you so much! 💖💕 And yes! I would suggest that you use a separate pan only for cooking clay just to be sure since we're using glue here that might contain chemicals. (^▽^)

If you are using Elmer's glue you should be ok using your everyday pan's,because Elmer's glue is non toxic.

Yes, I've seen others use it however I believe water-based paints are less toxic than oil-based ones.

Hey, the best video ive seen about this type of clay, i just tried the no Cook version but i dont understand why it hasnt the right consistancy, it cracks, doesnt makes the teardrop shape.. And it has this Sandy texture. I really measured all the ingredients i dont understand what i am doing wrong.

@zainclayarts

hm you might have added more oil than needed. maybe you can try adding glue to it and see if that works. add small amounts from time to time just to test it out first. let me know if it fixed the problem :)

Hi! What could be the effect if I follow the measurements and procedures for the no cook clay and put it in a pan (low heat) for a minute or two?
@zainclayarts
@zainclayarts 2 года назад
if you'll be cooking it in a pan for a minute or two, i think it would be better to just do the cooked method instead since there's really not much difference with the measurements.

How do you not make the clay smell like vinegar? Or how do you mask the smell?

normally the smell of the baby oil balances the smell but you can use lemon juice instead

Hi. I came across another how to video accidentally, so I watched and tried it for 1st time tonight. It did not come out right at all. Ingredients were not for cornstarch but chalk powder and no vinegar. It was so soft, wouldn't come out of my mould!! Can I save it or through away and start over is only option?? Spent so much $ on chalk stuff already.. it's just flopping downwards on the table. What am I doing wrong miss?
