Ive never welded before but i didnt want to let that stop me from trying something like a camper trailer build,
come along and watch me learn to weld and hopefully make something pretty cool i can take camping with my kids for years to come
i install the 200 amp lithium batterys plus the 110lt upright fridge into the camper.
then with my really bad attempt at wiring before the christmas holidays.

Really nice build.. I'll have to send you some pics of my build.. its a copy cat dot 6 trailer.. yet we went above and beyond and made the roofftop tent.. and pretty much everything ground up.. Im going same with fully offgrid/electric. I loved the last drifta dot which was the edot.. So going 3x 200w solar on the roof of the rtt, i got a 300w 70v solar blanket, so in total 900w solar, Im building my own batteries which will be 2x 340ah with 250a bms, I'll have 160L water tanks or 2x80L and a 12/240v hot water heater for showers and on tap at kitchen.. I got a drifta 270 squareback awning with full drifta canvas wall set, drifta dpor kitchen and storage drawer.. though me and my dad designed a legless system 10x better and stronger then sliding tracks and cheaper for the pull out kitchen.. currently I got a evakool infinity 47L fridge, once finished the trailer I'll also have a 95L evakool dual zone.. in rooftop tent I got 2 usb ports, 2 usb-c/pd port, 4 cig ports.. which I got a 17" laptop to watch movies and tv shows that charges via usb-c and run 1 sirroco 12v fan tho I plan to get another one.. In the rtt it has a 20cm thick firm foam bed.. I can fit 3 blankets, 2 quilts, 2 pillows inside.. and at the back of the rtt I got a storage box.. its a double bed... Also have 3 layer insulation on the roof inside. The canvas for the rtt was made byc razy dog canvas.. its a unique design that no one in the world has color wise which the color theme of the trailer is military - army green, black, and camo.. Still working on it though.. Not fully complete as I'm on disability pension so its hard to save for allot of the things to make it.. but its campable as I done so far 6 camping trips doing 4-5 nights.. And so far ive tested it in heavy rain, 50-60km winds, qld summer heat.. last thing is cold.. so in july going to camp in a place in qld near warwrick in the moutains which temps at night are 0 to -12 and frost so that will be a good test. Ive tried my best to keep it australian made.. Id say its 90% aussie made so far. Also has 2T rebound offroad springs, 16" prado wheels as I got a 90's series prado.

I think you've done a great job with the trailer build however with this video you've demonstrated another skill. the ability to transform vehicles: you own a Y62 but the trailer was towed out of your garage with a Prado and then on arriving at the camp site the vehicle changed into a Landcruiser 100. Wow! ;) thanks for the content.

Looks great mate. We have the same toaster....lol..... Now you're a glamper......either in this camper, or the van...... I don't care what anyone says, if you've got a fire, you're camping. Was thinking about upgrading our nespresso pod machine, but decided the grinding of the beans is too much hassle not to mention the cleaning.... My mums' old redback camper used to bounce along the road on the tyres.......suspension wasn't even doing anything.....I'd increase the trye pressure and see how it goes when the suspension is done...... Side note......maybe one of those swing away slides for the cooktop will alleviate the issues with access to the top drawer.........

Looking good mate. I agree with changing and modifying as you go, I'm currently on the 5th variation of my drawer/bed set up in the Pajero and hoping for some changes again this year. The same wheels and tyres that you have on yhe Troll will go well on that plus means extra spares if you need them. Air fryer and coffee machine? Really? Lol. Gi camping to get away from all the fancy rubbish lol. In saying that Indont have either of them at hone so really doesn't bother me using a gas burner and kettle.

Camper came up awesome, nice work and can't wait to see future mod videos. Can the cooker and bench be put above the drawer? Then make cut out areas to allow access when it's in use, only issue would be clearance under the sink. Cheers for the hard work on your episodes 🍺

So glad to see that plastic stuff get ripped off the ACP! I left it on too long once...never again! Maybe you can mount some solar panels on the hatches? They will charge at a lower but worthwhile rate when they are down and give you a big boost when they are up. That may require upgrading the struts to bear the extra weight. That slide out sink and induction cook top is going to remain a PITA. If/when you put the bigger wheels it will get quite a bit higher - ok for you but not so for the better half. Why not get a small fold out table that fits into the current slide space, fit the stove and cut a hole for the sink and just put it on the ground when you need sink and stove?

If you are storing your generator there, make sure its not venting.... You will suck in the smell strait into your fridge area 🤣 My OCD tells me i need to fix up your GPO points & get them to line up.... Did i see a bit of carpet/paint missing under your fridge when you opened the door ? 🤠 Still a Awesome build. Im not sure when putting the bigger wheels on it if it is going to fit back in your shed. It looked close when you were pulling it out 👍

@JoshSinnott97
@JoshSinnott97 Год назад
In your honest opinion, do you think a small camper like this but more off road capable would be overkill for a solo camper? I've never been a fan of having my 4wd (my only car) fitted with drawer systems, water tanks etc as it just weights too much and kills boot space throughout the week. Would be so good to hitch up on a Friday arvo and just head off knowing everything is already packed in the camper. I also like the idea that if I get another car, my camping set up can remain the same

I get where you're coming from in peeling the protective plastic layer on your panels. Too funny. 😂 But it'll probably make you cry when you get your first bush pinstripe. The camper trailer has come a long way. BTW, was this filmed before you got your Y62? 'Coz if not, I'm surprised you didn't use it for the maiden trip of the trailer. On another note, a family friends of ours also built a camper trailer with a RTT on it during the lockdown. But they reversed the position of the RTT where the pop up opening end is facing the front of the trailer. They then built into the draw bar a series of boxes (for storage), strategically placed on top of each other. Bigger on the bottom, getting smaller towards the top. These storage boxes acted like built-in steps to the RTT. That way, the family didn't need the ladder. And the steps being more stairs like (ie. wide), were very comfortable to use.
@Australian4x4Adventures
@Australian4x4Adventures Год назад
Yeah this was all filmed before the 62 turned up. I did think about facing the tent the other way and using boxes as steps but I was worried about drawbar weight.
@BenMitro
@BenMitro Год назад
Not 100% sure, but I think the induction cook tops, when set at anything under 100% will switch on and off according to the setting. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can correct me? If this is true, then when they are on, they will pull the full rated current. It'll only be for a short time and only occasionally but they could be demanding the full 3500W from the inverter - for a very short time. The inverter will handle this, but it is being stressed beyond its rated power output.

I know you got the rooftop tent for 1/2 price but how the HELL can they charge $4K for it??? There is nothing in it to justify that price. Even at $2K it's still hard to justify that cost.
@fatmanoverlanding
@fatmanoverlanding Год назад
The RTT industry has gone mad IMO. Many are taking advantage of the current situation of higher than usual demand for them, that importers/manufacturers have raised their prices. Plus the AUD dropping in value isn't helping neither. Some famous brands (Chinese made RTT) went from around $2.5k to over $3k (and some nearly $5k). But if you think that's high, you should check the prices of the Sth African made Alu-Cab RTTs. They start from $6.3K+. 😲 The Aussie built Camp King RTTs, they start from $8.5K+ 😲😲 That cost more than what I paid for my 80 Series LandCruiser back in 2018 (pre-COVID).
@biggles333999
@biggles333999 Год назад
@@fatmanoverlanding 100%. It's absolutely disgusting these prices. But if people are stupid enough to pay these prices..They'll keep putting them up until the stop buying them. Talk about price gouging to make up for covid. I know I've changed my mind on buying one even at $2K. Unjustifiable.
@Australian4x4Adventures
@Australian4x4Adventures Год назад
