Crescent rolls are a must on a lot of tables over the holidays, but did you know homemade crescent rolls are super easy to make? Of course, it is convenient to pop open a tube of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, but you'd be shocked at how much "homemade" makes a difference.

Using spreadable softened butter is a genius idea, so much easier than having to roll out the hard block of butter in crescents!

I used to be afraid, but now I just kind of get it over with and pop it open as quick as possible. It's a bit like ripping off a bandaid - you know it's inevitable, so why delay it? And those are my favorite dinner rolls, so it's worth it :)

I don't recommend it. It's a temperamental recipe, which requires accuracy in terms of measurement and method. It can only be baked in a standard or a convection oven.

Hi Velinda. You can make and shape the dough ahead of time. Store the unbaked rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

GF all purpose flour works best for cakes and cookies where you don't need the gluten development. That being said, I've used GF all purpose flour in some of her bread recipes, and they were still fine, just a little dense. For breads I would suggest look at recipes that are specifically gluten-free

If gluten is the only issue, use all purpose flour to get the best result. It will be like using flour with gluten. I hope this helps.

Yes, the baking time will be a bit longer. If gluten is the only issue, then I recommend you use a gluten free all purpose flour. It will give you a result that is closest if not the same as one made with gluten. Check the measurements here www.biggerbolderbaking.com/homemade-crescent-rolls/

These look completely great!! Can they be made 48 hrs ahead Gemma? I have to do the whole Thanksgiving meal myself (well, for a small group but it’s still kind of hard for me) & it’d be a great help to refrigerate these ahead. Perhaps not a full 48, but closer to 38 or so?? I love the no yeast involved & actually made croissants (once) yrs ago & never forgot how good they were. You do awesome work!!! Thanks for all the uploads.

These rolls are best eaten on the day they are made, but you can also make these ahead. You can store these in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or you can chill in the fridge and just pop into the oven to heat before serving. Hope this helps.

Maybe a toaster oven or something similar...I used a roaster type oven (it plugs in and sits tabletop) when my oven gave out....no one could tell lol

Hi Gemma. What makes that nasty after taste when making those frozen Pillsbury rolls, same taste as the McD muffins and other commercial frozen products. I find the taste recalling. Some chemical?

I'm American and did not know crescent rolls were a staple on holidays! I thought the staple was just regular dinner rolls. Maybe I'll make this for Christmas instead of having the usual bread roll😊Also the method of folding and rolling reminds me of the morning buns!

Hi Gemma, we made this yesterday and it was great. We are making it again today. But I don't think the written recipe is correct. We used 7/8 cup of yogurt instead of 2 cups. I see a lot of other people making a similar comment. Can you please review the written recipe? Thank you.

Hi Lisanne. The measurements are alright. I just used a thick yogurt, as it's full fat. Also, that may have something to do with your flour. Flours do not absorb liquids the same way. Some need more, others less than the recipe requires. I recommend that when mixing dry and wet ingredients, only ¾ of the liquids should be added. Mix, observe and adjust accordingly. Add more, or stop, whichever is applicable, until the dough reaches the same consistency shown in the video. I hope this helps.

I love this recipe, texture and flavor wonderful. I did bake at 375 for abt 25 minutes, but hey were not done in the middle. They were getting too toasty leave in much longer?

Hi. By any chance, are you using a convection oven? If you are, then you need to lower the baking temperature by 30F / 15C. Heat circulates much faster in a convection oven compared to a conventional oven, it can get hotter than initially set. Use bottom rods only so the rolls get baked through without burning the crust.

I followed the recipe and I had something that looked like wall paper paste. So I put 2 cups flour and one cup full fat yugort. But the dough was stiff. There were ok but didn' t look anything like yours. Please help me.

Hi Frances. I'm sorry to hear that but I'm afraid the amounts are out of proportion. It's best to follow the measurements in the recipe. Check the full recipe, read the tips and let the video guide you on the process here www.biggerbolderbaking.com/homemade-crescent-rolls/ One tip that you can use in baking no matter the recipe is that you add the liquids to the dry ingredients gradually instead of adding in one go. The reason for this is that flours in different places behave in different ways, depending on how, where, when and the type of wheat grain being milled. Note to hold back some liquid by using up to 3/4 in one go and adjust it accordingly to get the same consistency with the video / recipe. I hope this helps.

Perhaps it was too wet. Flours do not absorb liquids the same way; it may need more or less the amount indicated in the recipe. I recommend gradually adding the wet ingredients when combining wet and dry ingredients. Stop when it reaches the same consistency shown in the video. Hope this helps.
