I really like this tutorial. So simple gets to the point. Doesn’t take 1 hour just to get to 1 point. Doesn’t get so technical. Just makes them literally homemade. Doesn’t teach me like it’s a cooking show.
Homemade Potato Chips: 1. Peeling the potatoes 2. Grab Slicer and slice into thin strips 3. Get them into a bowl of water and move them around 4. Put Potato in a colander and give them a good rinse 5. Put Back into a Bowl of Cold Water and Add a couple tablespoons of salt and stir (30 min) 6. Set them on a paper towel, add another paper towel on top and get them as dry as possible 7. Put a pan filled with oil on medium heat 8. Insert the potato into the oil 9. Put all the potato in until it is golden brown 10. NOW TAKE A POTATO CHIP AND EAT IT
get a small cup. open a window. thrust the cup in and out the window and try and get as much air as possible. close it up, and pump into potato chips bag. done
made these and they came out beautifully. Took a couple of tries to figure out exactly at what point to remove them from the fat, but after I had that figured out, the rest came out crispy and delicious. Even better than store bought chips. Thank you so much!
I do these a lot but I salt them just as they come out of the oil. I have also found that a woc is the best way to fry them. With the woc, you can get the oil a little deeper and put in a hand full at the time even stuck together. As soon as they hit the oil, they separate and when they turn the color you like, use a wire dipper to remove ready for the next handful. . Chef Jerry
I'm watching this at 2020,gotta cook some homemades cuz of the quarantine bruh XD "Someone liked this comment" Wait this video is literally 3yrs ago, not expecting to get a like bruh XD
@@Traveler-rf8ye if only people fought for their rights and stood up to the deletion of freedoms the same way they fought over toilet paper... humans are pathetic
I dont think you realize not all additives are bad right? And most of the preservatives is just salt. The number one additive in the US for chips is MSG. Which isnt harmful in small quantities.
I made these yesterday. Your recipe was quick and easy. It's the first time I've been able to get a truly crispy homemade potato chip. Thank you for the video.
Two things, 1. Can you narrate my life? And 2. I love your recipes! As a college student and dorming it sucks when you don't know what to cook, and some of your recipes have saved me! Thank you so much!!! Keep up the good work (and food!) :D
VashtaNerada1701 Hi Vashta. Sure, send me the script, and I'll work on it LOL. Thanks and you're very welcome. Actually, you can dorm it and still eat well contrary to popular belief.
I like the way you cook...short, fast, and best food output! Convinient to people who are learning to cook and those who are in a hurry to cook. Thank you so much! 💖🤜🤛🙏🥰
For a long time I've used to slice peeled Idaho russet spuds slicing them on the thinnest slice on the mandolin, rinsing them in cold water until water runs clear. Then drain them and at them dry, heated the oil in the cast iron Dutch oven to 320F, adding the chips one by one. This prevents sticking.using a spider stir occasionally until the oil temperature comes back to 320F. Remove chips with the spider colander over a bowl. Heat oil to 425F. Return chips to hot oil, stirring until chips start to turn golden brown. Remove, drain, and season with salt or any other taste enhancement.
So this is what happened... I was smoking weed and thought about making my own potato chips ( obviously) so I searched this video and clicked, and continued smoking my bong. I actually had to rewatch the video because I had the sound of and i started petting my dog and got distracted. Thanks for taking that trip with me. I think we all grew in the process.
Thanks Dave for the recipe, just made this today, seasoned with salt and barbeque powder, turned out amazing.... better than any potato chips and healthier too.
I live about 3min away from Frito lay Canada and I always wondered how they make there chips but now you showing how easy it is to make my own is better because I know what is going on and cooking them in . Thank you for sharing I can't wait to try to make my own. 😇
Me in quarantine knowing that I'll never go out for two weeks. Also me wanting ships. Me searching how to make ships at home But then realizing I'm too lazy
Having chronic kidney disease potassium is a problem when it comes to potato chips. No matter how low the store-bought ones are in sodium and fat they still have potassium. I turned to homemade chips and was surprised the slices were soaked in water to remove excess starch. In my case, I can soak them for four hours or more to leach about half of the potassium. It is good the cheese grater I recently bought has a slicer so all I need is a bag of yellow potatoes.
I have a food processor and use it to slice my potatoes... Takes all of 2 seconds to slice the whole potato up into chips. I also use it for shredding potatoes for making hash browns, or shredding just about anything and everything else. It was one of the best things I ever bought.
Hi Jenny. Fantastic idea. You could open a chip factory. LOL. Yes, do that and let us know. BTW, I have one too. I'll have to try that. Take care and stay safe.
I used these instructions yesterday to make about a gallon bag worth of chips to take to a party and I don't think I will ever go back to store bought potato chips they were amazing. By the end of the party their wasn't even half of a chip left. So so good
Hi! David! Another snack for us especially this quarantine. I appreciate how you prepared and cooked you potato chips. Thanks for sharing, I will fry potato chips later for our snack. God bless you.
You can do the same with green plantains. Also make a Cuban mojo dip for the plantain chips that's delicious: garlic, onion, juice from bitter orange, cumin, olive oil, and butter.
Hi there. Yes, I try to reply to every comment not matter when the recipe was posted. I feel if people make the effort I should too. Thanks so much for the comment though. Hope you enjoy the chips. Let us know.
Hi Dave! I tried this potato chip recipe on 5/19/21 with the only difference being I used a deep fryer. Going forward, if Frito Lay offers me a free truck load of Ruffles, my reply will , "No thanks!" Would rather make Dave's. Outstanding Sir!
Just made these to go with homemade philly cheese steak sandwiches!!! Today's my comfort food day!!! You only live once😁🌲🔥🍺 subbed liked and saved thank you✔
Another way to make crispy chips is to peel, slice on thinnest mandolin. I use an aluminum pizza peal. Place sheet of parchment paper that fits the size of the microwavet turn table. Place the parchment on the peal. Spray the parchment with with vegetable oil or canola oil. Lay the chips on the paper. Don't overlap. Spray the chips with very light coating of vegetable spry and a light coating of salt. Using the peal place the loaded parchment on the microwave turn table. On a 1000W microwave set the time for 7 minutes and cook on 100% high power. The chip should show a hint of light brown. If not nuke them for 1 minute more.
Gene Park I have Mastrad microwave trays I use for making potato chips. May I ask why you peel the potatoes when the skin is where the nutrition is? Also, when I want flavored chips, I put them in a large bowl with a lid, I put powdered salad dressing in the bowl, put potatoes in, then sprinkle more powdered dressing on top of the potatoes, put the lid on the bowl, and shake. The chips go on the tray, microwave for three minutes, let them cool for about thirty to sixty seconds, then microwave for two more minutes. With these trays, I found if I microwaved them for five straight minutes the chips burned, but if I split the time, they normally don't burn.
These are the best. The only problem was I kept eating the cooked ones while they were draining and had to keep frying more. Took me over an hour to get a plate full.
I've been trying to bake them in the oven bc I don't want to mess with a bunch of oil in a pan. But you must be right about frying being the best method bc mine are half-soggy, half-burned. They're not quite crispy, not quite healthy. But I'm thinking the whole thing is too labor intensive. Chips in a bag have gotten so expensive, but making them is showing me that I should just eat healthy and not Think about junk food. Better to make mashed or roasted or baked potatoes, all of which are delicious, healthy and a Lot easier to make than these chips! (I have to use a knife for mine..) Aside from that, though, I Really liked your video: so clear and straightforward!
