A much more efficient way to remove rice from salt and get consistent toast, have another bowl pour the rice and salt into the sifter over the bowl then sift out salt then dump salt back in to pan. All rice removed at once all toasted at was duration.

By easy cook rice I assume you mean parboiled instant rice. I have some minute rice and definitely going to try this. As a child puffed rice was one of my favorite cereals. Hopefully it won't taste salty. Thanks.

@@deliciouskisses15 It depends. It works best with "quick rice" or "minute rice" and sometimes those are labeled as instant rice, but actual instant rice is different and I don't know how it would turn out.
Attempted this: parboiled rice (1 C) salt (1 C). Results: salty puffed rice that tasted similar to popcorn and burnt(ish) salt that I couldn’t use for anything else. I attempted to use it like Rice Krispies by adding milk and created a flavor horror show that I still recoil at, months later. Recommend: an alternative to popcorn but not to cereal. Go to Aldes or Walmart and buy the cheap stuff.

Actually no. The flavour of the salt is only activated in the presence of moisture. As both the salt and the rice are dried products, the properties of the salt to not transfer onto the rice but acts purely as a cooking medium. 😀
@@Wowsers101 I meant ingredient-wise for cereal. You would need to add sugar to the milk to make it sweet as rice has no sugar. You wouldn't cook the sugar. I haven't tried his technique yet to puff up the rice with salt so I can't give you any tips on why yours burned. Ask the author for tips if you're following what he did and it's not working. Or maybe just practice with a lower temperature or more salt. Did the rice at least puff up?

We're you using a gas or electric stove? I found that my electric stove did not manage to heat the salt high enough to cause the rice to puff up. Also, you need to make sure you are using 'parboiled/easy-cook' rice. I hope this helps.
