Even though cooking isn’t necessarily your “happy place,” I do love seeing you in the kitchen and sharing your recipes and ideas. Foods can create such special memories for families! My oldest will turn 46 shortly. We always have extended family dinners for birthdays and the birthday person chooses the menu. For his entire life, this son has always asked for my all day spaghetti and meatballs with cheesecake for dessert. It fills me with joy when I prepare something my family loves. Even now, when my adult granddaughter visits, she loves to “shop” my pantry for dehydrated apples, various soups I’ve canned, jams, and bone broths. She hauls it all back to her apartment in NYC and tells me that she feels like I’m giving her a hug each time she opens one of those jars. She always brings back the empty jars too! I hope little Riggs is feeling better. Thank goodness for baby carriers! Thanks for another great video.

Cranberry muffins are the bomb. I like to grate some lemon or orange zest, mix it with some form of granulated sugar, sprinkle it on top and bake it. It really is next level. Have a great weekend, you guys. 😊

My grandma would make oatmeal for us kids when we would sleep over. She also liked her toast black so I have memories of the scent of burnt toast, coffee and oatmeal cooking that somehow smells comforting.

Good video, nice mix of all things for a cold winter day! I garden on sunny days and I'm inside on the cold, wet or windy days. I love baking, but the rest of the housework is just a chore that has to be done. God bless y'all and keep growing.

🇦🇺I grew up on semolina with cinnamon and honey, cinnamon sugar or apple sauce. An afternoon snack for my kids, I would make was pizza fingers. Slices of bread with tomato or bbq sauce then add toppings. Cut into 4 or 5 fingers. Place under grill. We would also make bulk sausage rolls for the freezer ready to bake also spring rolls with glass noodles and mixed vegetables. Slab cakes with frosting. Bacon and egg muffins was another.

Love your home made granola recipe! I made home made granola for the first time at Christmas for my daughter who has health issues and she didn’t want to eat store bought … and I have switched to home made now completely, I will never go back! You can adapt recipes to suit your taste exactly and it’s so much cheaper and healthier! My daughter is delighted she’s converted me 😊

Your time in the kitchen was quite productive. I too do not enjoy cooking. I spent time today making grab and go breakfast burritos and sandwiches for my husband to take to work. I was particularly happy with the burritos because I was able to utilize lots of veggies helping me with getting through stuff for the pantry challenge. I’m a big fan of using dried cranberries in muffins so I’m excited to see the recipe when you’re done with it. Great video, thank you for sharing.

@TheSeasonalHomestead
@TheSeasonalHomestead 6 месяцев назад
Ooh! This one’s good, and fairly simple too 👍🏼(this is Cam). Only two ingredients for vanilla extract: put some vodka in a quart mason jar(35% alcohol or higher), add a dozen whole vanilla bean pods that you have sliced lengthwise to allow the beans to release, then put in your cupboard for 2-4 months. After that, it’s ready to use. That’s it! Super simple, which is why we love making it ourselves. Doesn’t take much and tastes 100x better cause it was made at home 😁😋

Start small! And do what you can where you are. Even if you are in a city with no yard, you can learn to cook from scratch, make sourdough, and even compost indoors :) Think about what one skill you would like to learn most and do that. Once you’ve mastered it, decide another skill and learn that. One step at a time! It’s taken us 18 years to get to the point where we are now. Lots of attempting, learning, failing, and trying again along the way. It’s a journey for sure!

This is the first video from your channel I have watched; thank you. Very nicely done. I did notice two things that I wanted to comment on. One, you do not have to reinvent the wheel with cooking. If you are making something up, google other recipes first; you may find exactly what you want, or see one that is almot what you want, making it much easier for you. Also, I saw you measuring your lard into a pyrex liquid measuring cup! AARGH! Those glass pitchers are for liquid measurements. It is very difficult to get an accurate measurement for lard or powdery ingredients--you need to use a specific measuring cup so that you can level off the top for accurate measurements. Will using a pyrex work? Sure. But it will not be accurate. Baking needs accuracy to have good results. One cup is different than one cup plus two tablespoons! Thanks again, and good luck.

I bake at 350. Sub maple syrup for the honey, and for the coconut you can omit it buckwheat instead. Exchange nuts for pepitas! It’s very adaptable. I put different stuff in it sometimes depending on what I have.

For the oatmeal, you can used dried sliced apples instead! Chop them up to bite size pieces. I don't know if there is similar replacement for the freeze dried applesauce. I would just omit that one. It will still be good, just won't have as much apple-y flavor.

@TheSeasonalHomestead
@TheSeasonalHomestead 6 месяцев назад
Haha! You made your preference clear :) There is milk powder in the oat mixture we make. We use a non-dairy one due to dietary needs. So when we add water it’s reconstituting the milk powder and still has the creaminess. Maybe not quite as much as actual milk but close.

I'm getting really sick and tired of all these RU-vidrs pushing products in their videos, just so they can get something for free. Don't we get enough adverts in the videos pushed upon us by RU-vid. Come on guys, I really enjoy watching your videos, but do we really have to put up with 20% of the video taken up with some sales pitch.
@TheSeasonalHomestead
@TheSeasonalHomestead 7 месяцев назад
Thanks! I’m glad you are enjoying the videos. RU-vidrs who stick around and post often create content as a job. We personally spend on average 20 hours creating/filming/editing each video. That is the time and doesn’t include costs. Ads and sponsorships help creators get paid for the work they do and gives the content to you for free. We also only promote and partner with companies whose products we already use and we really like (we legitimately turn down 95% of offers we get). Sponsored ads you can skip past if you want. It’s worlds better than cable tv, where you pay for the cable, still get commercial advertisements, and can’t skip them. All of the ads and the paid for service are present in cable tv because those who provide a service, like education or entertainment, should be paid for the work they put into it. A RU-vidr is the same and should not be expected to work and provide entertainment or education for no pay. Hopefully this gives you a little more understanding of the why behind it.
