Twice I’ve made the dough, fermented it overnight, then the next day popped the whole bowl into the refrigerator and left it for a day or two until I had the time to then shape the bagels. They still rise and taste fantastic. Just fyi if you ever need to delay the shaping/rising/cooking part!
OMG ! I create a sourdough for the first time because of you , and I just try you're sourdough bagel and WOWW! I never succeed for bread , pizza etc.. And now I'm just crying alone in my kitchen because I just finish the bagel and they turn out so good and beautiful ! Thank you so much 🥺😍❤️
These bagels have become a Sunday morning staple for our family. We love to top them with dried minced onion! My husband is originally from New Jersey and he says they are even better then what he would get from the bagel shops growing up 🤗
I think you are the most genuinely real person of all my subscriptions. I can’t think of a better way of describing you. Genuine. You are blessed and highly favored of the Lord. And I’m thankful He does not have favorites but that we ALL are favorites. 🤩🤩🤩🤩 Thank you for your channel and your content. God bless you.
Never thought I’d be able to make perfectly chewy fluffy bagels at home, let alone with sourdough starter. These came out absolutely perfect on the first attempt and were so, so easy! Thank you for sharing.
I don’t have a vintage stove and we keep our house pretty cool year round so to create a warm environment to raise my bread products I turn my oven onto preheat to 400° for 1 minute and then turn it off and it’s nice and warm.
My house is also quite cool (16-17C) but I've begun learning how to adapt to my climate: it just takes longer!! I often place my bowl of dough in the cold oven, just because it's a place where it won't be disturbed or experience the same temperature changes as on the work top. My starter was finally successful when I put the jar in a cupboard (next to my ACV starter!) instead of on the worktop. If Lisa says "4-8 hours", I tend to expect 12 and it's fine.
I made these just a couple of weeks ago! So easy! My husband loved them too 😊 I told him, "I can make these once a week!" He laughed & said, "let's start with once a month..." I'm currently pregnant with our third so I need to slow down a little bit. But I can definitely see this recipe easily being made once a week & the dough be made on a food prep day!
I love the way you feed your family! I am learning from you and I hope to feed my family with delicious from scratch food too one day! I have a husband but no children yet. I love cooking from scratch but I haven't done anything with sourdough yet!
Yum! I have cooked diced apples with cinnamon and brown sugar, mixed together with cream cheese and then spread on a bagel, divine...and addictive. And fresh apple season is just around the corner. I know what sourdough recipe I am trying next, lol. Thanks Lisa, I am inspired once again.
Our family loves homemade bagels, and they are so the perfect to-go food! My kids currently love them plain just toasted. And topped with cheese or cinnamon and sugar are our current favourites. And we totally always double batch just like you- one batch just doesn’t last! Such a good trick with making the bagels round and then just punching your finger through the middle, I learned the long way of making them into a snake and then trying to make the ends stick together. But during boiling sometimes they unravel so your way makes way more sense. We also cut and then freeze any that don’t get eaten that day and they are fantastic reheated and toasted later. Thanks for putting together this video!
My ten year old Kitchenaid gave up the ghost today in the middle of making the bagel dough and I had to finish kneading by hand, which actually wasn't too bad. The dough is rising now and the new upgraded mixer ordered. I'm really looking forward to serving and eating these, as I've always been intimated by bagels, until I saw your video. Thanks!
@@elishatreacy4704my KA doesn’t like making bagels as well because the dough is so dense. I’ve learned to mix for about 3-4 minutes let it rest for about 10, do another 2-3 minutes on KA, rest 10-15, KA 2-3 minutes. Basically break it up! lol. It’s also good to “autolyse ” dough
I just made them for the 2nd time today! Thank you so much for all you do! I used all purpose einkorn and it turned out really good. I just add a little more water and it’s more like a 2 hour 2nd rise. But we’re loving them. I’m going to your blog to give it a five star review!!
Also just a heads up, maybe add bagels hashtag. When I searched on RU-vid for Farmhouse on Boone bagels this video does NOT come up. And I knew you had a tutorial. So I just used your recipe on your blog.
Yes!! More videos like this please! I would love to see what you would pack for a whole day trip like to the beach or mountains. With a cooler and also without! Thank you for sharing your gift with us!
I made these today (first time making any bagels at all), but holy cow! They’re PHENOMENAL! I’m so excited! Thank you SO much for this recipe - I will be using it regularly.
Thank you, Lisa. I always learn something new from your tutorial videos. Since I have an electric range, I raise dough by putting it into the cold oven with a pan of boiling water underneath on the bottom rack.
Sourdough bagels are my favorite too! Some times, especially where I live it’s so hot, I might need a little less starter or extra flour in the summer so they don’t over ferment. We use the round end of our bread lame to put in the hole while adding the egg wash and toppings. That way we don’t burn our fingers I just love your hair in this video and your Toup’s and Co makeup is looking so dewy and pretty on you!
I’ve got this going right now…. I followed along, step by step with you in this video. Tomorrow morning I will boil them and bake.. I love hot bagels and cream cheese!
Made these twice now, and am making another batch tonight for company tomorrow. Super yummy and really not all that difficult. I appreciate you sharing your recipe and walking us through it. 💕
Wish I would have watched this video before making the dough from the recipe on the site 😅 My dough looks nothing like this 😆 We’ll see how they do tomorrow, I’ll try again! Thanks for the video!
Thanks to you, my family gets to enjoy incredible English muffins and flat breads every week!! Your recipes are so easy that I'm finally using my sourdough starter all the time! Can't wait to try bagels. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing this recipe, I am new to the art of making sourdough starter and bread making. But I am learning a lot about it and enjoying the process. Be blessed 🙌
Thanks so much Lisa, love the way you shared this with us. You make it look so easy to make bagels. I wish I could be like you. Your children are really lucky to have you care and feed them w8th your creativity in the kitchen. The river is so beautiful. Enjoy!
I’ve made this recipe probably 20 or so times. I have it double batch memorized. I use white and whole wheat flour and usually need to add a bit more water for it to come together.
I'm finally getting the hang of sourdough. I have baked with sourdough for a decade but always found the amount of time required daunting. Thank you for showing us it doesn't need to be all in one chonk of time. Yester midday I made bagel dough. I didn't have time to complete, I put it in the refrigerator until I went to bed. Took it out let it rise while I slept and finished in the morning. Homemade everything bagels. Delicious! Also appreciate your method of feeding the starter. So much less waste. Thank you ❤
This looks like a picnic I want to go on before the fall school semester begins. You all look as though you are cold. We are still in the 90Fs here during the day, so we'll be joining you for a comfortable picnic. LOL.
@@shannijones4587 you are very welcome. I started my second batch 7 days ago and it’s not what I had hoped for. I ordered some rye flour that will be delivered today sooooo I’m going to start a new batch this afternoon and I’m going to try feeding my first batch with it too. I can hardly wait. I’ve made countless loaves using my regular recipe, cooking them in my Dutch oven. I love it. But I’m really excited to bake with my sourdough. 😋
Ooooh, looks so yummy! I enjoy your videos so much. So peaceful and relaxing. Hope y’all had a great day at the creek. Take care and God bless your precious family! 😀❤️
This was so well-done & informative, Lisa, thank you! I’ve only made them once before (I don’t have a stand mixer but an electric hand mixer worked ok) -but I’m thankful you went over some of the troubleshooting.
Don't like thick, starchy bagels, but I do Love sourdough bread. Will use your starters to make my own. 🤠 Love watching you cook and your decorations and family stuff. TFS ! 🥰
I started my sourdough journey a week and a half ago using a starter from a friend and consuming everything Farmhouse on Boone per her recommendation. The book, the blog, RU-vid. I am hooked. This morning I made snickerdoodles and these bagels (started after the kids went to bed last night of course) and I still cannot believe that I was able to make something so dang perfect. But honestly, thanks to the recipes and a good sourdough starter everything I have made has turned out so good. I can't recommend this recipe and everything Lisa does enough!
Good morning, those bagels looked so yummy. Bagels are one of my favorites. You are so talented. I enjoy watching every video. You have such a beautiful family. I cannot wait to see all the walls with those beautiful wallpapers that you chose. It will make your home so warm & cozy. Can you tell I love wallpaper. I also live in an old farm house. Until next time .Take care.
I just made these today! This was my first recipe with my first sourdough starter. They turned out amazingly, they were so soft and had the best flavor!
This is a favourite of mine. I actually make this recipe by hand as I don’t have a stand mixer and don’t find it tough to knead at all. I also had to convert it to grams because we don’t have cup measurements here in the UK. We have made a cinnamon version too which we topped with cream cheese icing. It’s so good and my littles love it too.
@@GraceSufficient74 Sorry I did not see this at the time. 140g sourdough starter 237g water 2 tbsp maple syrup 2 teaspoons salt 500g organic strong white bread flour (protein higher than 13%) 1 tbsp baking soda plus sugar for boiling.
This recipe is a regular breakfast for us now! I added cheese and jalapeños to half and everything bagel seasoning to the others! So good! Thank you for this recipe! ❤
I’m no bread maker ..I really stink at it but I can cook like crazy lol. But I still love watching your bread recipes. You should write your own bread recipe book, unless you have already.💚 Do you feel like a newbie bread maker needs a bread maker machine? They can be so expensive but I’ve seen others use them and it looks so easy.
I don't know how you manage to find/create so many great and simple sourdough recipes but I absolutely love it and am currently going through all of them!
I just saw and ad for the School of Traditional skils that the Thomas family put on. That is so cool to see you are involved! Makes me so happy to see my favorite youtubers coming together! Way to go!
Am pretty new at sourdough and just tried these and mmm so good. Thank you for an easy to follow and great recepie. I will definately be making these again and again :)
I started making your sourdough bagels last year and they've been such a hit with our family. I no longer have the stand mixer (gave it to one of our grown children) so made the bagels by hand the other day. Yeah, a lot of work but it worked and well worth it. Well done for coming up with such an easy-to-use, easy-to-follow sourdough recipe. thank you.
We're you able to use just 1 cup of water to make the dough by hand? I tried with just one cup, but to I corperate all the flour I needed to add another cup of water to get everything rolled in. I've got them sitting on the stove now but they're really not rising. May need to try again with just one cup of water and only 3 cups of flour. Very new to this.
@@jenkinst18 Yes, I used the 1 cup of water. Sometimes I can't always get all the flour in but as long as I get 3 1/2 cups in the bagels turn out great. One trick is you do need to add the last cup of flour slowly. I only sprinkle the flour on as I'm kneading. If your starter was very active when you made the bagel dough, sometimes the key with sourdough is getting the temperature right. I don't overheat the bagel dough by putting in a very warm place. Instead, if my house is cool I'll just make them earlier in the day and still leave overnight. I've also done it where I've made the dough in the morning, formed the bagels before bed, then continued making the bagels in the morning.
I am so going to make these! I have a dry starter, but I just make a levain the night before and take from that. I will also be using Einkorn. I used the Jovial bagel recipe before which is great, but this recipe has some good tips and seems easier.
Are you really having fall weather already?? KS needs to get the memo. I’m so tired of 100 degree weather! Your bagel recipe is my go to! I like to add some pumpkin purée and pumpkin pie spice to it sometimes. So delicious!!
This is such a great recipe and I am starting them this afternoon for tomorrow. The raisin ones should great too. My sourdough bread I make I sometimes I add bit of brown sugar, cinnamon and a handful of raisins and substitute 3/4 cup of einkorn for the some of the white flour. So good. 🇨🇦💕
They look so yummy!!!! I always enjoy your videos! I look forward weekly for them! We just recently moved to Missouri and I was excited to know you live in the same state! We love fresh eggs sure wish I lived closer lol😊👍🏻👍🏻
Because a friend of mine suggested I follow your recipe on making a sourdough starter I can say it WORKED!! Today I made these bagels and can I tell you I was ecstatic when they turned out, at first I wasn't sure because they didn't seem to be as big and fluffy as yours but after baking them they're just fine. Though I think either the temp was too high for mine or I need to do less than 20 min since we're darker brown than I wanted. Thank you SO much I love watching your video's 😊
Making these for the first time! So excited! Always wanted to make our own bagels! They look so wonderful! Hardly can wait for them to come out of the oven!
I am so excited to try these. My husband really enjoys bagels but wants to cut back on yeast breads to help with his seasonal allergies. I’m sure he will be happy with these!
@@FarmhouseonBoone been making ur English muffins for bout 2 yrs now! Havnt needed to purchased bread since because its good for every 'bread need' we have (really love them as hamburger bun substitute). Now I have another bread I can easily/routinely make! Thnk u soooo much for sharing ur knowledge/talent!
The bagels look amazing! I always thought it was really hard to make but you have made it easier than I thought so I’m trying it this weekend thanks! Il let you know how it goes. Love watching you and getting great ideas and encouragement. Just ordered my first batch of Einkorn flour can’t wait till it comes in to make my first loaf !
I LOVE THIS RECIPE! Just made my 2nd batch since this video came out! When mine come out of the boiling water and go on the parchment paper, I use the end of a wooden spoon in the bagel hole and sort of spin them around to stretch the hole out, so I don't have burned fingers.
I have been making bagels with cinnamon and sugar rolled inside like a cinnamon roll but I love the idea or the brown sugar and cinnamon on top. I haven’t made them with cheese before but I had a store bought bagel with cheese for a blt a little while ago and it was amazing. I think I need to double my recipe because one batch doesn’t go very far!
