I can't tell you how special this is. We r in the middle of flipping some rooms around in my home right now but I have to make these. Folk art, primitive art is my favorite. Ive never liked new furniture and choose to have the old worn pieces that came over with Noah and Mrs Noah on the ark. My ex never understood why I liked old worn tables. One of my favorite tables came from a chicken coop. The lady spent countless hours cleaning and sanitizing it then painting it. It's sheer perfection to me. She priced it and I bought it before she could back out and she regretted pricing it instantly. So, you have just taught me something that is so me. The chicks are insanely beautiful and you're brilliant. This is awesome. Thank you and God Bless You

You’ve obviously closely observed chicks as you’ve captured the essence of an adorable fluffy chick giving them a wonderfully folksy twist. Quite the talent! Looking forward to more of your creations. For those looking for thin pipe cleaners, the kind bought to clean smoking pipes would be great. Available usually behind the counter, they are thin and sturdy. I’m excited to try this craft.

Seems to me we eat eggs. Why not blow them out. Cotton them leaving opening. When dry, break egg gently or just cut a hole carefully and do Cotton treatment around hole, leaving egg inside for strength. I imagine a goose egg. Love the candy bar foil. Wish I ate candy. Dollar store foil is very thin. Presently making snowmen with Styrofoam balls, connect balls with leftover wire. You are teaching me a lot. Have crafted over 60 yrs. I live in a hoard of snippets. If you were my neighbor, imagine your inheritance. I love Littles with black glass bead eyes, for most littles. For cardboard houses, I have found more uses for my old Christmas cards. The mind just keeps running. I desperately needed this new interest. Bought an old tiny food processor or chopper. I take broken glass Christmas balls and chop them very fine. Looks like very old glitter. So I ramble. Glad I found you.❤

I love your video, Thank you for sharing with us. How long does it take for them to dry?
@Rosannamakes
@Rosannamakes 6 месяцев назад
It really depends on the weather and season and also how thick your cotton layers are.. if it's very humid and cool, it might take more than a day without any "help" -- if it's winter and you have forced air heating you could set it over a vent or use a radiator to speed it up.. or I just bought a second hand toaster oven so I can "bake" mine without heating up my whole oven. You can pop things in a low temp oven, like below 250 degrees F or you can put them in an oven that you've turned off from baking. Doing that, you can cut the drying down to a few hours total.

I loved the chicks. Did you wrap the pipecleaner legs, or did paint manage to make them work well with the whole sculpture? I love these!!! What a lovely video.
@Rosannamakes
@Rosannamakes 3 года назад
Thank you! I didn't wrap the legs, I had some pipecleaners that were sort of skinny and not quite so fluffy as some are and they worked to paint, just get the paint watery. I think you could trim the fluff off a regular pipe cleaner and paint them without much trouble! I didn't worry very much about them being completely covered because I wanted it to look old 😁

Hello! Love these tutorials! Can you offer a bit of information on dry times. I'm never sure if I've used too much of the glue/water mixture which makes dry times about 2 - 3 days.
@Rosannamakes
@Rosannamakes 2 года назад
That depends a lot on your house temp and humidity as I'm sure you would guess.. I used to wait for mine to dry normally or put them over a heating vent if it was fall or winter but lately I've used a warm oven to dry them faster... if I was drying a chick in the oven, I might be able to put it into an ven heated to 350 and shut off, for an hour or so, and it would be dry.. the subsequent layers of cotton would take 30 minutes or so as for me they are usually thinner. Again, this is all sort of subjective as my cotton layer might be thinner than yours or I might use more or less glue wash.. it's what make this a real folk art craft because it's not precise! I talk a little about the oven method in my make along for valentine hearts but I will try to address it more specifically in the next video! Thanks for asking - oh and I know some people use a blow dryer but I don't blow dry my hair and hated it as a teen so I don't plan to start blow drying my spun cotton if I can help it! 😅

@Rosannamakes
@Rosannamakes 3 года назад
I just painted the pipe cleaners as is, they were a smaller pipe cleaner, not the very fuzzy kiddy-style ones, but I did try wrapping the pipe cleaners with tape (not in the video) and it wasn't worth the time for me personally. Some people use floral tape for wrapping wire for birds feet. Hope that helps!

@@Rosannamakes Thanks I am definitely going to give spun cotton Mâché a try! I don’t really know what it’s called is it called just spun cotton? I have use clay Mâché for many years but I like this so much better I can’t wait to try it
@Rosannamakes
@Rosannamakes 3 года назад
@@missmolliesart8188 it is my form of spun cotton 😅, you're right, it's more like cotton mache, probably because I do use paper mache technique a lot and so that happened alongside. Traditional spun cotton uses longer fiber cotton and more wrapping, so I'm probably stretching to call it that! But I hope you do enjoy it!
