Hello everyone,
Today's make-along is a little different and is definitely NOT going to be for everyone - this is long form in extreme haha :) and I filmed it and kept it long this way because I think it's a good form for specific times or needs, such as when you are having an anxiety attach like I am in this video, or when you're needing company or wishing you could have a cup of tea with a friend.. or maybe you just want something on in the background while you garden or craft or do any kind of work.
I don't consider this a tutorial, although you can certainly learn some things about spun cotton and perhaps see some new techniques. This is a process video that is intended to inspire your own original creative projects and efforts and it might even be enjoyable to some folks who will never try spun cotton at all but just enjoy watching or listening to someone make things.
If you're looking for a quicker, easier way to dress your little figures, I am working on a MUCH shorter video where we make very simple garments from several different materials and I hope to release that in the next few weeks.
As always, I welcome your well-intentioned comments and constructive criticisms as well as suggestions or questions.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support -
Happy making to you -
xo,
Rosanna

Roseanne, health anxiety or hypochondriac is a legitimate disorder, just like OCD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, etc. Don't be ashamed about it. I have a few disorders myself, to include PTSD and my anxiety has been acting up overtime. I don't know if you are a Christian or not, but I have found that reading my Bible actually helps me. It.helps my mind focus on something else that's bigger than me. It's comforting to me. I'm actually able to calm down and slow my breathing down. Then I move on to something else to keep my mind busy, or it helps me to be able to sleep. Bible meditation and verse memorization is another something that can help, and of course prayer. But I am aware that not everyone is a believer. But anything that helps relax your thoughts and breathing can help. I hope you get to feeling better. Sending hugs.

Beautiful creations! Your so talented. Thank you for sharing. I used to have very bad anxiety and panic attacks but they completely disappeared about 6 years ago, so there is hope. I found that reading the Bible helped immensely, walking, dancing and anything physical also helped me. Doing very detailed work like needlepoint distracts panic. Hope this helps. I really enjoyed your move. Hugs from Italy 😊

Dear Kathi, thank you so much for your message and for your donation! Maybe it seems smaller than you'd like but it feeds our chickens for a week and that's not a small thing ❤ I can understand how after actually experiencing something like a tumor in your lung, you would become hyper-aware and vigilant which feeds into constant anxiety. We're told to monitor ourselves so we can "catch things early" - a good idea but some of us take that too far... I feel for you and hope with time perhaps you will find more peace ❤

I told you before I watch your videos as “ comfort “ . It’s odd to say , that’s not exactly the right word . But they allow me to escape the moment and spur my creativity . Put your illness in the list of things I can control . Then do what you can control . ( talk to a doctor /psychologist /nurse practitioner ) . Then teach yourself to let go . It’s a hard battle . Rosanna, thank you so much for posting this video. I also have anxiety plus other health issues. It can be such a debilitating state but your video talking about it and working through your creative process was both courageous and helpful. The more we can talk about these things, others can be reassured that they are not alone. The migraines I experience cause anxiety because pain is our body’s way of telling us something is wrong which then starts the cascade effect of questioning what’s wrong with me…you are not alone. Anxiety can present in a myriad of different ways and levels but knowing what you are dealing with is definitely the biggest first step on that journey toward peace and hope. Thank you again for sharing this video…you helped me today and I know I can’t be alone seeing the other positive comments on here. I am a brand new subscriber and I’m excited to make a few mice to live in my mouse house. Cheers!
@Rosannamakes
@Rosannamakes Месяц назад
Ohh, thank you for writing ❤ I know just what you mean, you get a migraine and you want to know why? What's "wrong" with my body that caused this? Everything must be examined.. it's tough because as you say, pain is a signal from the body that something isn't quite right, but oftentimes I know that the main thing that isn't right with me is my stress and anxiety. So it's a constant wrestle between writing symptoms off to anxiety and tension or wondering if this is the time something is really wrong... ugh. There's no way to reason myself out of it for me, I just have to get busy and distract if I can! I'm so glad this video helped.. I really believe being creative can be very healing and also that being creative together is a really beautiful way to connect. Hoping you're having a good day - or that tomorrow will be a better day! ❤

Roseanne . . . I understand. I am a 76-year-old woman who has inherited depression. Although I can't stop the depressing thoughts, I CAN DIVERT my thoughts by becoming deeply involved in a project, hobby, research. Sometimes I need very complex projects (such as decades of family research), and sometimes I need to just embroider to relax. This is a great COPING TECHNIQUE, honey! BTW, awesome mice!!! I'll be watching, honey.

Rosanna, your vlog ended up in my feed, and I am interested in learning how to make little mouse characters. Though when you described your disorder, I was grateful and appreciated learning about what you are experiencing. You are so articulate and this helps others to develop understanding and empathy. I have circadian rhythm disorder, which, in my case, means that my sleep patterns are not normal, to say the least. I have tried to change or even slightly adjust this so I can fit in with others' cycles of being awake during the day and sleeping at night, but I have not yet been successful. I have real guilt about this, so I understand that you would feel guilt, even though it's clearly not something you can control very well. I hope that you can try not to feel guilty, because guilt is the pits. To borrow from another's comment, you seem like such a sweet soul, and I wish you the best. The little mouse is going to be adorable. I will have to finish watching "tomorrow," and am looking forward to seeing the rest.

Thank you so much for your kind and understanding comment ❤ hand sewing is very relaxing.. I think that must have helped our grandmothers unwind at the end of the day although I don't suppose most of them had any choice but to do it, it was a necessity more than a hobby but still, it's good to keep the hands and mind occupied ❤

Ok, young lady. This is a therapist talking to you. You are taking the negative comments to heart. STOP IT, JUST STOP IT. You are a good person and a fantastic artist and let no one tell you differently. No one has the right to degrade you...a helpful comment? Yes, but that is all. I LOVE your calm voice and instruction and find it relaxing, which is a benefit of crafting! Is it not? People who are in such a hurry and negative state can fast forward or go to other resources. Do not take any of these nay-sayers to heart. (YES, you have been taking those comments to heart!) I love your mice videos. I am retired and of Volga River German heritage and teach spun cotton locally. You have taught me so much and I appreciate you. Hugs from Dakotagal... and your phone camera is just fine; you don't need an expensive replacement!

Oh my goodness, you are not alone at all. I never had health anxiety like I do now, my bf also developed it after losing both of his parents in a short span of time. I feel like we are constantly inundated with pharmecutical ads, reminders of health care worker shortages, stories of people going bankrupt because they had an accident or developed a chronic illnesss. Its like this cloud always hovering me. My mom is having health struggles, my friends are cancer suvivors or disabled. I have a relative struggling to get disability. How the heck am I not supposed to have health anxiety when a moment can change the trajectory of my life or lead me to financial ruin? Its awful. I won't watch any shows that are medical dramas, I have to excuse myself from chat spaces where people are sharing their health hardships. I am constantly feeling my breasts for lumps and looking at my scars. Its so awful and feels so isolating. Anytime anything feels foreign or looks different I feel my anxiety levels rising. Sometimes when I lay down I become hyper aware of my heartbeat and then I'm like "Wait..is this a normal pace?" then I get worked up. I was never like this before.

And I completely understand what you're saying, there are so many worst case scenarios to see all over the web and social media.. it's very upsetting. I avoid many of the things you mention and have had many of the same fears.. when you can't be alone with your own breath and beating heart it is pretty awful 😢 but good days can follow on the heels of the worst ones and we can find things that distract or help us through. Hoping you and your boyfriend can find your way to a more peaceful place ❤❤❤

Hi dear Do not feel guilty about your anxiety. It is not all in your head. It actually has an organic cause. You have deficiencies and/or inflammation in your diet. The most common deficiency is in Bvitamins. Then animal fats for hormones. Or even mineral deficiencies. Try an animal based diet of elimination. After a month slowly add in a single food at a time. You most likely have some brain inflammation along with deficiency. Love crafting dear.

Hilda and Ludwig are adorable!! I took a couple of breaks when enjoying this fun video, but I think I missed how you did the pattern on Hilda’s dress?!? Was it a dot pattern with acrylic, painted when it was dry?
@Rosannamakes
@Rosannamakes Месяц назад
I used some dark red-brown watercolor for the dot pattern and yes, after the background was dry or it will just bleed in.. gouache would work well too. I chose watercolor because I wanted it to soak in and look part of the dress instead of sitting on top if that makes sense, as acrylic might do. Although if you water acrylic down it would act similarly. I hope I haven't confused you!

There’s probably more people than you think, too that are out there my father and father-in-law both suffered from health anxiety. They told my father that he was imagining his illness and one of the things about it was he was being dismissed by the doctors when he had actually had a Hernia until they sent him to have a scan that the lady doing the scan got very upset and ran to her head the clinic that they were doing this at and the lady who was in charge came in and said are you having a heart attack and he said no, I’m not having a heart attack and it turned out that all of his Health problems just made others ignore it and actually big problems with a hernia because he was always anxious and nervous and they would lock him up in the military. He was 100% disabled from being in the Korean War and I think a lot of it was PTSD too, but when they think you’re just a nut, they just totally misdiagnosed him until that one lady found out it was a hernia and not a heart attack, but it was mimicking the symptomsof a heart attack so don’t worry we’re all out there with different problems. My brother and sister also had some anxiety problems, but I’m more stoic like my mother and not bothered by anything.

I can’t help but think of my own experience of being sick for 11 long years. I went from doctor to doctor. Specialist to Specialist trying to find out WHY . My experience was that everyone of them ran the SAME preliminary tests, and wouldn’t you know they came back as normal. (What’s the definition of insanity?) I was so desperate to find what was wrong with me I asked one doctor where can I go for a “live autopsy” and mistakenly confided in one doc that I felt so sick I felt like I was standing in the window of a three story house engulfed in flames and felt like jumping. That was all he needed to hear! That in combination with him not having the answer (due to doctors having a god complex) it was in my head. He sent me to a psychiatrist. That made everything so much worse. Was I really making myself that sick? So after 11 years a PA (without a god complex) LISTENED to me. She looked at everything I had done up to that point and ran some DIFFERENT tests. I have Systemic Lupus and Mixed Connective Tissue disease. I’ve been in treatment for the past 15 years and it’s being controlled. I no longer want to jump out of a burning house. Im not saying you don’t have Hypochondria and certainly don’t want to feed into it if you do but if you are sick, if you have symptoms don’t let a guy with a degree and a god complex TELL you you’re not sick when you know you are. Regular docs don’t know or don’t quite “get” what immune system disorders are and, in my case, never ran tests on mine. It’s a tragic fact that it takes a SICK person TEN YEARS, on average, to finally get diagnosed with Connective Tissue Disease (which includes Rheumatoid Arthritis, lupus, Diabetes etc). If this sounds like anyone who might have read up to now, I encourage you to ask for Connective Tissue disorders or ask for a referral to a Rheumatologist. In any event I wish you luck and health! Thank you for sharing your story … And for reading mine!

Thank you for sharing your experience ❤ I think there will be otheres who read your comment and recognize their own situation and maybe they will be able to get help faster because of it. I'm so sorry that you weren't heard for so long, and that the people who should have helped you didn't. I hope things continue to get better for people with connective tissue disorders - I think there is growing awareness about them and with more and more research and discussion about hormonal health and perimenopause and menopause, which can present similar symptoms or go hand in hand with those disorders, hopefully they are better diagnosed and treated. Thanks again for sharing your experience - I know it will help people! ❤

The problem with anxiety is it's insidious and makes you feel really ill. So something unknown makes you anxious, you feel ill, you get anxious because you don't realise you were anxious before and think you're dying and it all goes round in a vicious cycle. Knowledge is power, my friend. If you can, learn a little physiology, particularly what anxiety does to your body. It should help.

Haha 😅 yes, I started as a needle felted in 2013 and sold for many years on Etsy but after going plant based in my diet, decided to move away from using wool and that's when I started with spun cotton. The process is not quite the same of course, but the appearance when finished is a little similar and I think that's why I tried it. THE DESCRIPTION OF YOUR SYMPTOMS SOUNDS MORE LIKE EMPATHY. YOU SOUND LIKE YOU ARE FEELING THE PHYSICAL PAIN OF OTHERS. THE BEST THING TO DO WHEN YOU FEEL THIS KIND OF FEAR IS TO TAKE A WALK AND GET GROUNDED! YOU MUST RELEASE THESE FOREIGN ENERGIES FROM YOUR ENERGY FIELD AND WALKING IS THE BEST WAY. YOU SOUND VERY LEVEL HEADED AND YOU ARE ABLE TO CONTROL HOW YOU PRESENT YOURSELF TO OTHERS. YOUR RATIONALITY IS AN INDICATION THAT THIS IS A SPIRITUAL CONDITION AND NOT A PSYCHOLOGICAL CONDITION. YOU JUST HAVE NO BOUNDARIES. THESE RU-vid VIDEO FORMATS ALSO OPEN YOU UP TO THE ENERGY FIELDS OF ALL OF YOUR VEIWERS. I HAVE BEEN LIKE YOU MOST OF MY LIFE. BUT I TOOK CLASSES TO LEARN HOW TO "GET WELL" THROUGH EVERY MEANS I COULD FIND. MOST OF THESE WORKSHOPS WHERE TO RELEASE TRAUMATIC PAIN FROM MY PAST. THIS IS OFTEN WHERE IT STARTS. I LEARNED TO JOURNAL EVERY DAY TO RELEASE THE PAIN THAT I HAD BEEN CARRYING A LONG TIME. I ALSO GET YEARS OF COUNSELING UNTIL I THOUGHT THAT I WAS DONE WITH THE PAST. BUT I NEVER LEARNED HOW TO KEEP A SPIRITUAL BOUNDRY AROUND MYSELF AND LEARNED HOW TO RECOGNIZE WHEN I WAS FEELING OTHERS PAIN. THIS LEARNING HAS GIVEN ME A LOT MORE FREEDOM IN LIFE. I WILL LIST SOME OF THE CLASSES AND BOOKS THAT HAVE HELPED ME. READ BOOKS ABOUT EMPATHS. I TOOK A YEAR OF DONNA EDEN ENERGY MEDICINE TO LEARN ABOUT THE ENERGY FIELD. RU-vid HAS SOME OF HER BASIC GROUNDING EXERCISES THAT CAN HELP YOU A LOT. THESE EXERCISES BRING MORE ENERGY INTO YOUR BODY'S MERIDIANS AND HELP THEM FLOW IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. PAIN CAN BLOCK OR REVERSE THE FLOW AND MAKE YOU FEEL UNWELL. DO THESE SIMPLE EXERCISES EVERY MORNING AND EVENING AND ALSO WHEN YOU DO NOT FEEL RIGHT. I HAVE TAKEN MANY CLASSES TO BECOME A PRACTITIONER IN ALTERNATIVE HEALING. AND I AM ALSO A NURSE SO I KNOW MORE ABOUT CHAKRAS AND MERIDIANS AND THE BODY THAN THE AVERAGE PERSON. I LEARNED THAT MY ENERGY FIELD IS ALSO MORE SENISITIVE TO ELECTRICITY, ESPECIALLY WIFI. I HAVE BOUGHT COPPER FABRIC TO PUT ON MY BED TO PROTECT FROM THE EFFECTS OF ELECTRICITY THAT TENDS TO PULL YOU OUT OF YOUR BODY. THIS EXPERIENCE CAN MAKE YOU FEEL ANXIOUS. LEARN ABOUT GROUNDING OR EARTHING. TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES AND REST THEM IN DIRT, OR GRASS. YOU CAN EVEN MAKE A CONTAINER OF GRASS CLIPPINGS, DIRT OR ROCKS TO KEEP IN THE HOUSE AND USE WHILE YOU ARE CRAFTING. IT HELPS YOU TO FEEL SAFE IN YOUR BODY. VISUALIZATION IS ALSO VERY HELPFUL AS WELL AS BREATHING EXERCISES AND AFFIRMATIONS. YOU CAN MAKE A TREASURE MAP. A POSTER OF PICTURES AND WORDS CUT FROM MAGAZINES THAT REFLECT A PERSONAL GOAL IN YOUR LIFE TO HELP YOU DAILY TO FOCUS ON WHAT YOU WANT WHEN YOU ARE FEARING NOTHING WILL CHANGE. I HAVE ALSO COME ACROSS A WEBSITE THAT TEACHES ABOUT 4 DIFFERENT TYPES OF ENERGY FIELDS. IT IS CALLED HUMAN DESIGN. JUST AS THERE ARE 4 TYPES OF BLOOD, THERE ARE ALSO 4 TYPES OF ENERGY FIELDS. SOME ENERGY FIELDS ALLOW A PERSON TO FEEL ENERGETICALLY GROUNDED NEARLY ALL THE TIME. PEOPLE WITH THESE TYPES OF ENERGY FIELDS ARE ALMOST ALWAYS POSITIVE AND LOVE TO EXERCISE. THEN THERE ARE THOSE THAT ARE FREQUENTLY UNGROUNDING AND ATTRACT OTHER PEOPLES ENERGIES. I HAVE THAT KIND AND IT IS CALLED A PROJECTOR. THIS SYSTEM IS VERY COMPLICATED TO UNDERSTAND AND REQUIRES A PERSONAL SESSION FROM A PRACTITIONER TO LEARN ABOUT YOUR KIND OF ENERGY FIELD. I RECOMMEND THE SESSION. JUST TO LEARNING THE BASICS OF YOUR ENERGY TYPE WILL HELP YOU TO SEE THAT WHAT YOU ARE FEELING IS NOT YOUR ENERGY. THERE IS AN OFF-SHOOT OF HUMAN DESIGN CALLED GENE KEYS AND THIS SYSTEM EXPANDS HUMAN DESIGN BUT IT IS STILL COMPLICATED TO LEARN ALL THAT IS TAUGHT IN IT. EVERY SO OFTEN I LIKE TO GET A SESSION FROM A PARTICULAR PRACTITIONER OF THE GENE KEYS THAT I LIKE A LOT NAMED PETER TONGUE. HE MAKES ME FEEL GROUNDED. I ENJOY YOUR LITTLE MICE AND MADE ONE MYSELF.
