1. Clean your living spaces. 2. Cook your own meals. 3. Get a feminine hobby. 4. Nurture and take care of yourself (health, fitness, diet, personal care).

Hi, I am a career-oriented woman who’s been happily married for a year & a half. Recently, I’ve become distressed and just feeling bad about my home environment. My husband and I just purchased a beautiful home that has a lot of potential but we’ve yet to decorate or put a lot of love into it. I let the excuses get in my way of “I’m not into cleaning and decorating, I’d rather spend money on myself, or why is that stuff important anyway?”. But I’m slowly finding everything you said in this video to be true! When I do clean and make a space pretty, My husband is happy and I feel more confident, responsible, and put together. I think I’m burning myself out at work and taking longer than others to embrace the adult home-life. I want to try to make a positive change toward nurturing my home more. Thank you for our videos. They are so helpful

You are spending money on yourself when you invest in your home 🙂 I went through the same thing--from buying myself things like perfume and shoes to replacing the blinds that annoy me, getting curtains, a new doormat--whatever. It feels good to come home and enjoy a space that you have cultivated.

I'm so happy you said "so many people almost brag about not being able to cook" instead of "so many women" because, let's be honest, i love cooking for my husband but it's pathetic when a man literally can't feed himself at all. i (not even kidding) know men who burn pasta because they "didn't know that you had to put water in". it's so sad it's actually kinda funny.

schmeichelkatze My mum doesn’t let me cook at all. I’m 17, I live with my mum (single mom) and I also work. I buy my own groceries because my mum isn’t really healthy (my mom just throws frozen chips and nuggets at me). She doesn’t allow me to cook anything, (my own healthy meals etc.) and whenever I do, she get extremely mad and then shuns me out. if my sister enjoys what I cooked, my mom gets angry at both of us and shuns us both out. My mum works all night so she comes home at 7 am and sleep until 12 in the afternoon. So she isn’t able to cook during that time of day. I ask to cook for myself during that time of day but she still says no and gets angry - and then tells me to just have bread and butter or frozen chips. She threatened to kick me out because I argued that I don’t understand why I’m not allowed to cook my own meals since she **my mom** can’t do it. Am I supposed to starve? We live in a council flat in the UK so I understand if it gets crowded in the kitchen as it’s really small, but no ones ever in the kitchen. I’d also like to cook my own meals because my mum is very unhealthy and I don’t want to go down the same route. I look at my mum and all she eats is processed foods, cereals (for breakfast, lunch and dinner) or store-bought sliced bread and butter. She’s suffering several diet related issues because of her health and yet my mum is still trying to push that diet onto me even though she knows how damaging it is. Somebody please help and give me some advice, I can’t move out because I’m still in education (sixth form) and my sixth form has a policy about students who live on their own (it’s not allowed because to live on your own you’d have to work full time and working full time in sixth form is nor allowed or possible)

Natural Body and skincare hey just read ur comment. My mother was exactly the same. She is very Controlling and I guess that’s why she didn’t want me to cook. She probably doesn’t like the „competition“ I suppose. Do you have your own room? Maybe you can buy yourself some cooking appliances that you can store in your room. Like a mini stove, a pot and pan. You can easily hide it under your bed for example. And Cook when she is asleep. If the smell might bother her just light some candles that smell very intense 😊 i Hope i could help U
@TinaThevarge

Natural Body and skincare I would suggest starting out by cooking simple dishes after she’s gone to work. Something like spaghetti and sauce can be filling, nutritious and easy to make. Make enough for a couple of meals. Then leave her a note saying her dinner/breakfast is in the fridge and just needs reheating. But don’t leave a mess in the kitchen. If you’re going to cook, do the dishes afterwards as well. Get your sister to help if she can reach the sink. It’s possible that she doesn’t want to teach you to cook because then, on top of having just worked all night she then has to do the cleaning up. Maybe if you can prove that you can help with the cooking and cleaning she won’t be so upset about it. Then maybe you can start working together on meal planning. I don’t know you or your schedule, but spending time watching tutorials about cooking and cleaning will give you a good start, as does watching this video. I grew up with a single mother, and 2 brothers. But we were expected to help out. My brothers did the lawn mowing and firewood cutting and stacking, and I was expected to help with the cooking and cleaning from a young age. I have memories of helping cook pancakes and eggs and washing dishes at 5 years old. Needless to say, my upbringing was quite different. But, I find it hard to believe that she doesn’t want help, but, I think she might not want more “work”, as in having to tidy up after your experiment. I hope I've said something that will help. I don’t want to say anything offensive or off putting. It’s obvious that you’re reaching out for help, and this is just an idea. A possible jumping off point. But I feel like this is another example of why Home Economic's needs to be brought back to schools.

I'm sorry your Mum isn't being supportive of you. She sounds quite narcissistic and childish to me. If you can find a way to make her think it's a benefit to her for you to cook she might accept it. You do have a right to eat healthy food and stand up for yourself. In the meantime eat well outside of home as much as you can (at lunch in school, at weekends), at breakfast and snack on healthy fruit and veg (no cooking :). Make a plan to well in school and you can find your own place soon.

@@naturalbodyandskincare9965 My mother didn't let me cook because she constantly feared me burning myself. I burnt my hand very badly on an electric fire when I was a baby and had a lot of operations for skin grafting. She wouldn't let me cook at all! My brother tried to teach me when my mother was out but my mother's fear was imbedded in me with her fears projected onto me. One time I tried cooking chips as I was hungry and nobody was home ( I was 13 at the time) I nearly burned the house down because the chip pan caught fire! When I got older I lacked the confidence to try cooking. I got a lot of criticism for my cooking, it was bland, burnt ect. I resorted to the pre made stuff like microwave meals and eating badly. My current partner is helping me learn to cook and boosting my confidence to try new things without burning anything! Your mum may feel like she's not doing her motherly duty if she doesn't cook. Sometimes when mums get into a routine of doing something and then that routine is thrown off track by someone else it's hard to adjust, especially when a mum is so used to taking care of the family. Some mums are so proud that they refuse help from anyone. Try to say to your mum, "Mum, I love you. You work so hard every day to take care of me and my sister, please let us show our appreciation for you by taking care of you once in a while. We love you so much we don't want anything bad happening to you due to your health." You could even point out that by feeding you and your sister the same unhealthy diet that she would be subjecting you and your sister to the same health issues as your mum already has. Try your conversation on Mothers day. She might be more receptive to listening to you.

I am Eastern European and we cook, it is cultural thing😅 However, year ago I had unbelievable experience... Due to medical reason I could not consume any food that contain salt. So basically, I could buy only fruits, veggies, fresh meat and prepare it at home. I had to cut off ALL processed food. Within 3 weeks I noticed tremendous change in my skin quality. No pimples and black heads🥳 even cellulitis faded 😳🤷‍♀️😅 Cooking is incredible advantage for heath and well being🙌

Start a homemaking binder to collect recipes, decorating ideas, and future plans; find (thrift?) a hope chest and begin to collect nice things for your future home (thrift shops are full of lovely dishes, linens, and decorative items); learn to prepare good basic foods like soups, breads, casseroles, stews, and roast chicken; learn to up-cycle small furniture pieces with paint or refinishing; learn to mend and update clothing; learn simple embroidery, quilting, crochet, and/or knitting; attend a local church and spend time with homemakers of all ages; volunteer to help with church dinners and family events; select men to date based on their character and interests (is he home-oriented and does he respect his parents?) -- just a few ideas from an experienced home-maker!

Thank you so much for all of your videos! As much as I love and respect my mum, she could never teach and pass on such important lessons. Maybe because she’s just not that type of woman, maybe because the circumstances didn’t allow her to; at 24, I’m only now learning how to nurture myself inside and out, take care of the environment I’m in and get along with my adult duties and trust me, it’s not easy when you don’t have a concrete example to live by. Your videos have been and are so important in this process of self reinventing and somehow even improved my relationship with my mother, by recognising that it’s ok not to be the same. What you do is so important, not only because it promotes healthy femininity, which we are all so in need of, but also because it creates a community of confident and self aware women in a pure, simple and gentle way… and this is so beautiful and so appreciated! So thank you once again for shining your light the way you do, tightest of hugs! Love and kisses from Italy 💕

Being honest is the surest way to not waste time or become heartbroken in this. I am the opposite of you and when I was dating it was imperative that my partner did not want children and would be accepting of my career. For you I would be up front in saying that you would like to raise a family and that your values are aligned with a mother being in the child's life full-time. Be clear that your goal isnt to strip (future husband) of his worth, but to add value and stability from the home. If your potential partner does not agree then you would not be a great match anyway.

I have a teeny NYC studio apartment with a coffee maker, microwave, and toaster oven 😂 I recently acquired a hot plate as well, but rarely use it because I'm vegetarian. One of my FAVORITE recipes of all time is 1 pack of chili flavored ramen w/ half a cup chopped kale, chopped onions to taste, and a quarter cup of mushrooms. Everything goes in the microwave in one bowl for 5 min and gets finished with a squeeze of lime! It looks like an expensive restaurant soup, but costs sooo much less!!! Plus, its IG photo friendly lol

You are actually the first young American girl I have come across who actually understands what it means to be a homemaker 👍🏻🙂. This is pretty much how most of us European girls are brought up and think. I always felt like such a weirdo when I went to the U.S. and questioned how much people were eating out, or whether they ever took the time to clean their homes. They would always say they were too busy or it was just not their gift. But I always wondered whether they even wanted to at least TRY. I’m so glad you are bringing these things up. People will be amazed how much money they can save if they start cooking. You go girl!

Some cooking tips from a mom of college students. Start where you are skill wise but start menu planning. I used to keep everyone's schedule on a dollar store calendar on the fridge. From there you can plan. If your skills are limited, if all you feel confident in is opening cans of soup, salads, or microwave meals, start there. It's not as cheap or healthy as cooking from scratch but it's still cheaper and healthier than eating out. Pick one day to try new things. Start small with stir-fry or crockpot soups or chilis. It gets easier as you go. If you're super crazy busy, I've been there. We ate alot of sandwiches over the years and more than once we took bowls of chili with us and ate it in a parking lot.

This is super helpful as I will be moving into my dorm this fall. I will be sure to make it a nurturing environment for myself. I think I even might add a potted plant!

On the subject of cooking, my grandmother always cooked, but made it seem like chore. In result, I used to proudly say that I didn’t know how to cook. I started to cook in my mid twenties when I took control of my diet. Now I love it! I love that you make anything you want! You can use better ingredients, add things, leave things, sub things, it is also educational. Married with a 2 year old and in the kitchen everyday! Love your channel!

I'd love to see a video about a rough time in a relationship, how to come over it and about asking yourself if the partner really is "the one" or if he stops you from growing.

I couldn't agree more Caitlin! The kitchen has gotten a bad rap for quite some time. My mother always told me she didn't feel like she had to cook just because she was a woman. He didn't serve my father dinner or anything like that. She told me it wasn't her job. They both worked and she wasn't reasonable for those tasks. She told me your dad's a big boy and handle it himself. My grandmother taught me serving my husband wasn't wrong and I'm so happy she did. I absolutely love homemaking and serving my family. It gives me great joy and makes me feel complete. I love cooking a meal my family enjoys. Your channel is a blessing. Thank you for letting young girls know they have a purpose in the home!

I had to laugh a little when you said we don't have as much time any more because I'm pretty sure there has always been 24 hours in a day! lol but you are so right on the point that it's all about our priorities in life, I've really been exploring that in my own life lately. Fantastic video as always!

I really enjoyed this video. I've been a homemaker for decades... through the 80's when it was frowned upon and you were considered a lazy person even though you were running your home and raising children. I would have loved to have had a role model such as you back then. Also... I'm knitting my grown daughter a pair of mittens as I watch this! I chuckled since you mentioned knitting three times! :)

Love your content, very inspirational and easy to relate to. It would be so interesting to see what a typical week day is like for you. Like a vlog style of what your day consists of. I’m a homemaker and curious to know what other’s days consist of. Like the way you balance cooking, hobbies, health, etc. throughout the day.

I don't know anyone who is proud of not being able to cook- it is seen almost like being able to drive these days- even men in their bachelorhood learn to cook as teens. The women I do know who do not cook meals for their families get criticized by everyone. I learned how to cook from dieting. The food my mother cooked was causing me to gain weight and I had deficiencies so i started cooking my own food.

I actually found you through your baking bread tutorial and I then decided to check out your other homemaking videos which I loved❤ some of them don't apply to me because I'm a bit older but your whole "feminine family" idea is nice and there are not too many RU-vid channels dedicated entirely to homemaking that I knew of until now. Great idea🤗✌🏼
