Sounds like a clogged exhaust screen, or as I call them, the muffler on it. I remove mine almost as soon as I get new handheld equipment. I think that and a basic tune up that thing will run great! It still even looks fairly new… good find!

Masks do help with heavy particulates. If it gets too bad, give them a try. Better a little trouble breathing through a mask than permanent damage. Prayers for safety and protection.

The province of British Columbia has over 500 active forest fires. In the past two weeks two forest fighters lost their lives and they are bringing in fire fighters from France, Chile, Costa Rica, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and USA. We have had 100+ heat couple that with being in the province the smoke is really bad! Many thanks to all the fire fighters.

That's an awesome trimmer. Love mine. The only issues it ever has is when the exhaust gets clogged up. Easy fix. Can't wait to see y'all rocking it Could be the ignition coil as others have pointed out. Still an easy fix and worth doing

2620 is a solid find. I’d check the exhaust screen and if not throw a new carb and tune up kit in it. That’s all I run

I agree, this definitely sounds like a clogged spark arrestor screen. I had an early Echo that did the same exact thing. My service guy told me how to fix it and save the service fee. Easy fix. Take the muffler off and remove the screen, take a small propane torch and heat the screen till it glows orange then tap it gently on the ground to knock off all the build up (it literally falls off), reinstall and you are done Easy 20 minute fix. Clean the spark arrestor in the muffler on the echo or just take that screen out will work perfect

Take the carbon filter off were the muffler is located. Its like a mesh screen. Burn it clean with an wire brush.. new spark plug an gas

Before you take it to your dealer, take the screen out of the muffler and check it with it being that old it could be stopped up. Those are my favorite trimmers, they're all I use

Just had a similar experience with a new Brush Cutter I bought online. Turned out it was spitting oil out the air intake when I pulled the starter and the air filter was choked with oil. Took the air filter off and pulled till there was no more oil coming out. I cleaned the filter in warm detergent water (overnight - twice) rinsed it and let it air dry. Now running sweet as. Never did find if the engine had been stored with an excess of preservation oil or if I was somehow to blame, but I have what I need now.

Great find! That’s my favorite trimmer! I have one that I love that I use every day hopefully get another for a back up at the beginning of next season!

Yes sure does sound like a blocked muffler. Remove muffler and give it a good clean. There is too much back pressure causing it to not rev out.

All my equipment is Echo. Thats a clogged spark arrester and/or junk fuel. I only run ethanol free fuel, carbs never get clogged up.

Don’t pull the nutsedge. It makes it spread more and you need the leaves to be able to kill. You can use sledgehammer on it. Kills in a few days.

I just replaced the carburetor on my 17 year old echo and it solved the bogging down problem I had. Under $20 for a kit on Amazon. They say most carburetors are throw aways now a days.

You should clean out the muffler on the trimmer. That helps make it run smoother. Awesome video!

That's a great commercial trimmer. I bet with a new carb kit and a plug or maybe clogged exhaust that ole girl would purrr.

Carb needs adjustment on the high speed screw, pop off that tiny cap where the fuel lines go into the carb and adjust with tiny screwdriver. There’s RU-vid videos how to do this for that zama carb. Srm225 and srm266 both use those carbs.

Check air filter,see if it has the right fuel. Check exhaust port.

I have the PAS version, great unit. It sounds like it just needs a basic service and will run like a champ. That thing has a lot of power and is equal to stihl 131. Your dad will love it.

In the exhaust muffler there is a plug you screw out and there's a screen on the plug that gets carbon built up. take a hand torch and heat the screen to get built up off. Stihl weedeater's does the same thing.

I was told that the screen in the carburetor clogs up because a echo trimmer have to be ran wide open if you clean it it suppose to run

Get it a new spark plug and clear out the screen on the exhaust and it should run amazing

Got three lawnmowers and a Weedwhacker out of the trash all in one week put new air filters and spark plugs on the lawnmowers and clean the carburetor on one of them got a new head for the Weedwhacker and clean the spark plug and they run like now with fresh gas

Could be the in tank fuel filter or the spark arrester screen.

I heard on the news to wear N95 mask on smokey days. Home Depot has them, box of 20 about $30.00. I think they raised the price though.

Whenever I mixed my own gas, though i bought the most expensive mix and best ethanal free grade gas i could find, and mixed exactly as instructed my echo pas system would always mess up like this every few weeks. Cleaned up the spark plug and have only used trufuel since and so far hasnt happened again over a year later.

Burn the carbon off the spark arrestor with a torch or blue flame lighter... Super easy fix. Then show him the fix and bless it back to him.

Oh and another thing i make customers pay for a 8-10 ft tall de limbing. I use my excuess of me having one eye as justification and dont charge but a few dollars or if they dont want it we dont charge but leave the branches on the property. Its honestly a saftey factor. Plus looks cleaner unless its a healty tree that aint all sporadic branchy. I wont cut up healthy trees either. I try to play both ways and advise according.and I will cut out deadish branches and trim back, I'm not trying to rip ppl off either. ..I HATE WEEDING AND PLANTING FLOWERS...

Yeah could be a simple lack of proper maintenance. I run some fuel system cleaner in my lawnmower and the last trimmer I had to help with carbon build up.

Check the spark resistance behind the muffler they get gunked up with carbon they will run just like that all it is is a little screen behind the muffler take it off soak it in carb r brake cleaner for little spray it clean with air compresser

Amazon sells nasal filters those work very well

Try looking and cleaning the carb or replacing it. Also look at your exhaust and if it’s clogged clean it out.

The decal on that 2620 they changed on the newer ones so that’s one of the early 2620s I bet the homeowner just put cheap mix in it with ethonal and it needs a carb clean. Thing looks pretty new bet it’s been sitting alot. If you look at the silver metal part by the air filter the manufacturing date is stamped into it.

Can not blame gas weed eater owner. I put mine in the metal recycle bin and opted for a battery unit. Starts every time and the battery lasts longer than I do.

Either carb adjustment also make sure that fuel is 50:1 i have that same trimmer and its it is very finicky on fuel ratio

Probably carburetor, fuel pump or spark plug. It still looks new

We had a toro trimmer that did that. Took a while to warm up and needed a carb tune up

I have to wear dust masks while mowing; but I do not always do it. It has turned hot all of a sudden.

Maybe having a tarp by the garden to gather the nuts edge while pulling would help cut down on the regrowth.

Have him look into a pre-emergent for the nut sedge. Do you contract the fertilizer guy or does the customer?

I think that acetone or gas will remove all of the stuff from your arms and hands too

My initial guess was spark arrestor clogged.

A wet bandana would help with the dust part but anything less than a full protection mask won't help with the chemicals in that smoke. I have nightmares of doing a battalion run in a NBC mask at Ft Stewart GA. It was 85 when we started and over 90 when we finished and unmasked. I'm sure others have the same or worse, especially those that served in Iraq/Afghanistan and Solmolia in the last 30 some years.

Old fuel was probably mixed with Echo Powerblend oil?

A new spark plug and a good cleaning on the carb it will be good to go

Hopefully it runs what I do is I throw them away and buy a new one instead of spending all that money to fix it

I have an srm230 that I abuse. Over 10 years old use it pretty much every day. Original sparkplug, air filter, and fuel filter lol. Runs great. I did have a problem a couple days ago left it in the back of the truck during a bunch of rain storms and it sucked in alot of water. Took off the muffler and could see it in the cylinder. Blew it out and all is well. That one is probably an easy fix I would try the exhaust screen, then fuel filter, then carb.

There's two hidden adjustments screws on carburetor covered up by plastic caps. Nice find

There are days I have to put on my nylon face wrap and I just wet it with a little cold water lol it’s cooling me down and slows the overall dust and smell down. But I am in Michigan and over 65 . I don’t like to stop doing my everyday work. Just be safe drinking extra water helps ❤

I swear your at the same property every 2-3 days. Also possible reasons for the problem of the trimmer: clogged carburetor, air filter is bad, used the wrong fuel, exhaust is clogged, idle speed or fuel adjustment is too low, Or the carburetor is worn out

do you have issues with these feeling like they hydrolock when you pull the cord? I have 3 of these and they all run great, but it almost dislocates your arm yanking on the pull cord

It's clearly burning to rich - all 2 cycle carbs have a rich and lean set screw if a 13 year old can do it you can or you should be able to fix small engines
