You should think about some wood to put on the side of the salt spreader to help keep it centered. Just a thought. We haven't gotten much snow here in Colorado. It snowed today but only a trace. Only been out 2 times this year for residential snow removal. As much as I would love a snowstorm, I would not want one that big!

Even some of the bagged salt would work. And on the plus side they would have it if they really needed it.

Really enjoy your content. You do a great job bringing people in to watch something they might have no interest in otherwise. For me thats the lawn care side which is how I discovered you (I do snow removal as part of my business). I do find it funny what others consider a deep freeze but it is different for everyone. Keep up the great work!

I just wanted to say when uou where using the skid to clear the top driveway if uou hold the arms about a quarter of the way up and put the bucket like your dumping you will be able to get better leverage and leave a better scrape. Just if you would like to try it I know it work for me.

What we did was took a few 2x4’s and a 2x6 and make a square box in front of the spreader and put it again the bed (by the cab). We don’t have Boss spreaders but we have the western striker’s and they don’t move. We also don’t cross the straps. We found it better to go to the corners instead of crossing.

Yes you can put that stuff in a sprayer to apply. I did something similar. According to the local weather person, what we've gotten in snowfall is the most since 1978. I remember that because I was 25 and did a lot of shoveling. My dad had a Cub Cadet with a snowblower attachment and my little brother made a lot of money clearing driveways.

For undercoating I like woolwax. It's a little thicker and less smell than Fluid Film. I have the air sprayer they sell. Buy it in five gallon bucket with hand pump to fill sprayer. Keep it next to the water heater and boiler to keep warm enough to spray.

We're getting the deep freeze here in the lower hudson valley region of NY as well. Today's high was 22 and the low is 9 but wind chill is like -5. Supposed to be super cold the next week at least. We've only had 2 storms that have dumped like 3-4 inches all total.
@VanLoweLawnCare
@VanLoweLawnCare 2 года назад
Not sure if it was already said, but in order to spray fluid film in large quantities, you will need the undercoating sprayer, it's made for spraying woolwax/fluid film. You will have to hook It up to your air compressor. I undercoat my truck this way every year.

Gotta get yourself some cleat-tracs for that machine for winters with this type of snow. I ran one with dedicated tracks and it was something else in the deepest snow…not so good on slippery or ice surfaces but great in the deep stuff. Always remember your psi and how it relates to your traction…’wide and float’ is not your friend in winter(normally).

I have a couple of suggestions that might help. Put bags of sand or gravel etc. at the wheel wells to keep the salt spreader centered in the bed of the truck. Another suggestion is to lower the air pressure in the tires on the skid steer to improve traction on snow and ice. just remember to raise it back up.
@taho69
@taho69 2 года назад
The way you have your salt spreader strapped down only keeps it from moving forward and aft. You need to add stamps pulling sideways to keep it from moving to the left or right.

Great video Shawn and TQ, for the fluid film sprayer check out Diesel Creek RU-vid channel video “using a crane to undercoat my vehicles” he did a video on what he uses and how to do it! For plowing on gravel surfaces with the skid steer I would get a 2-3 of tractor bucket edge tamer skid protector that is going to keep the bucket off the ground by about 1-2 and not pick up gravel!

Amazing timing picking up the Skid Steer and the new Truck! 🙌 They sell an applicator for fluid Film that uses compressor air. I don't think a regular pump would pump it. FF is very very thick in the gallons and needs to be warmed to thin for application. But beware t is a Plastic "can" ! Much much less cost that way as well

Tire chains or a track kit will help with the traction on that machine, personally I've never been fond of skid steers but then again I'm 6'5" 385lbs... they weren't built for me in the first place. I do know that there are so many attachments for those that it could be a major asset for SLC though... but it needs paint and SLC decals with green and pink strobe lights

They make some relatively cheap undercoating guns that work good for fluid film. Then you can buy it in a gallon paint can type deal. That's what I do. Supposedly the latest and greatest now is PB Blaster Surface shield. Similar to Fluid Film but lasts longer. You can touch up the trucks in spots too. I used Krown a couple times they do an okay job but I noticed spots they missed like not doing inside the rocker panels. I hit those myself.

Swap your straps so that the hook actually goes up and through not over. That will also help it from slipping. Also do you run your vibration system all the time? We have a year older vbx8000, the only time we run our vibration system is if there is a jam up or once in a blue moon to break the corners free. So far we haven’t had any issues.

Glade to see y'all getting to do some stuff around the house for yourselves now. They fo make a track kit for the bobcat. I have used them in the Army in the past before. To help when it is that bad for slipping. They just wrap around the wheels like snow chains but like a track. And might want to think about upgrading to the hard rubber tires it would help too.

Rock driveways are horrible! I own one and I usually will level the snow and compact it with my truck and make it nice and level. Then when I snow blow, I am not throwing rocks on my lawn. It might make it easier for you. Just add weight in your bucket of the skid loader and let the tires compact it. Just a thought. 🙂

in one of your last video's you spoke about the salt spreader keeps moving. Have you thought about using more straps that would pull straight down in all 4 corners in addition to what your currently have on the spreader? I think these ones pulling straight down would be the key to keeping the spreader from moving for you. I like all the work that you and your wife do and keep putting out these good video's like this!!

You need a set of winter tires for your skid steer. We run winter LT tires on both of our trucks. They are a total game changer. Not only do you benefit driving on unplowed roads traveling to your customers properties, you have the benefit of the super grip they give you when your plowing. We run Nexen Winspike LT tires on both of our trucks. We never had an issue plowing our 4 commercial properties and 28 residential regulars, that we plowed 2-3 times with this event. We also plowed out an extra 30 + places for our family and friends. We made huge $ with this past snowstorm and picked up a few new regulars that want on our list because their plow guy was a no show.

Great Video as always guys ! we found that longer strap on our VBX from right side around the back to left side and from left side around back to right pulls the box better so it doesn't slide did front side as well but the rear was the trick to keeping it stable ... Its a great unit other than the knobs ... Don't laugh but we drilled a hole and tethered ours with rope and a clip so if it fell out it just dangles easy to unclip and screw back in .... The lock tight didn't work still lost 6 lol ....

the fluid film will never spray out of a pump-up sprayer in the gallon, 5 gallons, and 55 gallons it thick like peanut butter there are videos on youtube where they buy the fluid film undercoating gun and they still heat it up. I used an airless sprayer when I use to do it the little spray cans they dilute it down I'm sure you can dilute it down with something safe so you don't reck your paint so paint thinner is out of the question

I think fluid film is too thick for a weed sprayer. I have an air sprayer that works great for it but i have heard a airless paint sprayer is the way to go. I might invest in a harbor freight sprayer. Would make spraying from a 5 gal bucket really easy. Also since your close, buy the fluid film from summit racing. They seem to be the cheapest i have found around here. I would also hit your ratchet on the spreader straps and the top grate with fluid film. You should do away with those hand screws on the spinner chute and just use stainless bolts with some loctite. Nice to see someone actually taking care of their plow equipment.

Was thinking with that salt spreader. How bout putting a couple 4*4 on each side between the spreader and the wheel well inside the bed of the truck. Maybe that will help it stay center.

I bought a 5 gallon bucket of fluid film a couple of years ago. It’s really thick and has to be cut with quite a bit of vegetable oil to run it through a Wagner power sprayer I bought. I don’t think it would spray well through a pump sprayer. Maybe someone else figured that out. The Wagner sprayer works awesome. I did one of our Isuzu npr trucks in about 15 minutes.

We always used diesel fuel to cut fluid film never had any issues.

Old timers used to make their own fluid film with diesel and chainsaw bar oil. The diesel evaporates and the bar oil leaves a waxy coating on frames or anything metal.

@@AG-xw8bo thanks. I’ll have to try that.

No problem bet you can buy 5 gallons of bar oil and cut it will diesel alot cheaper than 5 gallons of fluid film. It's what I spray my truck frames, fender wells and plow down with really reduced rusting issues
