Carl was a true friend...he sacrificed himself when Homer was about to be fired. He took a bullet for him so he can survive..not caring about his own well being. Maybe the world would be a better place if there were more people like him in it.
@Mr. Note True, but if there is a afterlife for bad people then that will be their punishment for using a kind souls sacrifice for their own selfish wants
@@nicknavid LOL, true. Also, people act like he did it out of consideration. When in fact the Romans had to chase his ass across the Middle East and caught him.
@@alexanderblackwood9143 This is how God works. Human's free will and God's sovereignty (all things are under His control). It was the Roman's free will to murder Jesus, but it was ultimately God's will to send His Son to sacrifice Himself. Jesus knew He was going to be crucified and even prophesied it. 2000 years ago in Roman controlled Judea was the perfect time and place for God's plan. Little did the Roman's know, persecuting Christians would end up causing Christianity to grow rapidly throughout the Middle East.
There was also that teacher that Lisa had early on, I forget his name. He left her a note that said "I am Lisa Simpson" when he was leaving on the train.
@@edwardgaines6561amazingly, they didn't even need the full 22 minutes of runtime to do so as that final goodbye occurs at only 16 minutes into the episode!
@@T0YCHEST i think carl is ambitionous too. so he halp some time a good guy who deserve it. But in the end he knows how to do it. So he could do it on his own and making career... He knows everything and it would be so easy to use his knowlegde but first he help some other guys with it
Youre so right. Can you imagine a world of Carls? I just want to be a Carl surrounded by Carls, dont need to convince everybody to be kind.. unkind people can stay together
Karl's right up there with Hank Scorpio as one of the best random one-off characters. Edit: spelling not to be confused with Carl (Carlson), thanks @ツAcidicAli777
Basically, this episode demonstrates how the improvements in the company were only due to Homer being switched from a ground work job into an executive job. Which ultimately means that executives do nothing and get all of the credit. Genius.
Also the reason his life changed was his aesthetics, and no one even realized that's why they treated him differently. People assume that your work ethic and people skills are what nets you a better life, but statistically having a full head of hair and being taller than average both increase your chances of higher pay and a higher position. Nearly every US president has had a full head of hair. Average male CEO height is well above control, and personally when I was younger after I spent a couple years in the gym and was very fit and strong, the difference in how people treated me was astounding. I was still shy, awkward and self conscious, but it was seen as mysterious and reserved instead of pathetic or creepy. Gifts, food, invites, favors, holding the door, etc. It just kinda taught me that we're still animals and regardless of what we think, we still respond to the health and fitness of each other.
@@GrandmasterofWin And that's also why women like tall men. Not because of the bullshit excuse "It reminds me of my father." Yes, people really are that shallow.
I still love the Simpsons to this day but I know what you mean about the heart comment I hope the kids of today's generation enjoy the latest seasons also
There is a german sitcom about an aunt always yelling at her niece because of all the bullshit she does all the time, it is a lot better: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UyZoRtrvJMU.html
The loss in humanity was partially due to James Brooks leaving. He was all for the jokes, but he thought the dramatic human element was essential. Later seasons did not conform to his vision
A testament to the density, and quality, of jokes and story. Excellent writing is making the most of every line, the highest amount of digestible information can be given in the short amount of time.
Carl evokes a good feeling. Add that to the writing and seeing Homer happy with hair makes you to get hooked on the writing when Homer is going to get discovered and all that. Great episode. It inspired me to be more of a Carl
Karl was amazing, such a chad. He managed to reshape Homer, change him into a better person, and someone who could think like a corporate manager and stay at the top of his life. The moment he threw that umbrella to Homer, his mission was complete.
Hank Scorpio* But Karl is a close second, with Frank Grimes rounding it out in third. Just imagine how much more powerful Scorpio and Homer could have been if Karl was there with them, helping them get that power plant operational so they could take over the East Coast. Homer definitely would have become owner of the Dallas Cowboys in that scenario.
@@JanetStarChild what part of the Bible suggests any of that name the scripture and verse then come back at me. All I know is that my saviour died on a tree and rose again for me and Jesus lives in me
Karl was more than just a man with a deep, gravelly voice, and a nice suit - he was a true paladin in a suit. He took Homer under his wing and helped reshape him into a person with integrity and confidence, and stood by his side all the way to the end. The best friend Homer Simpson has ever had.
Carl is the best friend Homer ever got in his whole season episodes. Carl is honest, say what he thinks, loyal, good person and have principles which qualities are hard to find nowadays and is worth of gold. If I had a company i would take Carl as my vice president or equal buisness partner.
@@rumbaallday5575 Aw shucks. Now we have only butt-licking, self-centered, narcissistic, sociopathic, lazy, disloyal and traitourous, greedy employees who will betray their boss or colleague to climb higher in brutal corporate ladder to be a douchebag made of shit CEO who only cares about his paycheck and bonuses.
I completely forgot about this character. Karl makes a really niche SImpsons character and the voice talent of Harvey Fierstein is so unique. Karl had a chance to come back in another episode but Harvey rejected the chance to do so.
@MJ A Fuck your apathetic god; he doesn't give a shit about anyone. The Vatican has already tried and failed to get their god to end this pandemic. You people are such tools to worship such a powerless piece of crap deity.
I kinda wished that things like these were permanent isntead of pissing down on Homer and bringing him back to the depressing status quo that is his daily life.
Well, the Simpsons (and futurama) has expressed on several episodes. The formula is that at the end of every episode, things always goes back to what it was. Since the viewers don't actually like change.
He is an angel, he showed up after homer prayed and helped to succeed and as he leaves he gave me th impression of him being so good because he is an angel
Man... it's a shame we didn't get to see homer live this better life that Karl helped him achieve. Homer being able to provide for his family again made him a happier man. Would have been cool if Karl made a return arc.
Marge second best character. My favorite was always Bart cause I was a boy... yet I always thought Lisa was very funny... now she is my favorite in the series, early seasons. I stopped watching more than ten years ago.
This is one of the best episodes because it shows how facile and luck-based financial success is. Homer is still stupid when he grows his hair back, but suddenly becomes an executive over things totally unrelated to his job performance. Pretty on point
Yeah plenty of moron managers get high salaries specially in field of computer software management, and they don't know shit. Just a lot of hard working smart engineers allow themselves to be treated like shit while the big stupid boss makes a shit load of money of them.
It's a cartoon, you idiot. I busted my ass through college and worked to make my own business and now I life damn comfortably. Sorry if that pisses your little snowflake ass off.
@@theusher2893 It's a cartoon that became popular and successful for providing biting social commentary and satire beyond the scope of virtually any other comedy of its era. If you don't see the subtext in the episode, I have bad news - the money you're apparently so proud of can't buy you a couple more IQ points.
The sheer opulence of the executive washroom in an industrial setting is just so incredibly over the top that it perfectly suits Burns’ address at the corner of Croesus and Mammon.
Homer: Oh Marge every woman I interview for the secretary position makes kissey faces at me. Marge: Hmmmmm Carl: Hello Mr. Simpson, I’m Carl. Marge: HE sounds good, hire HIM! That’s exactly the way it would go down in real life too lol!!!
@@minoxiothethird Marge is not stupid. Even with a gay guy, she'd feel safe because Homer wouldn't fall for a gay guy. But he would definitely fall for an attractive, flirty woman.
@@veduci22 Exactly. Took me a while to figure that out though. Management only promotes people who get along with others or kiss ass. If hard workers were actually promoted, then nothing would get done.
This was an excellent cut, but had it been just 2 seconds longer, we'd have caught Karl's legendary single *'sneeze'* as he walked away in the rain. That little detail was just one of the things that made the early seasons of The Simpsons the best!
Carl is the side-character that made the biggest impression on me in The Simpsons. I think we all need a Carl in our lives to help us out from time to time.
"Well it... sort of looks like.. Homer Simpson only more.. dynamic, and resourceful??" 🤣🤣🤣 I can't believe how good these jokes are even after a decade of having seen the episodes
Carl is a sculptor who sculpts men. His first work is Homer Simpson. He made him achieve. Second work is Carl himself. He made himself an honorable man by his own actions. Third work is all of us who watched this vid and felt something. He made me feel something that I couldn't very long time.
I don't wanna watch all the simpsons. They're just too damn much of it, but this episode in particular, I want to know. All of it What's it call the episode?
Now there's a business strategy: You need to promote someone in-house every year to claim that your business is healthy and growing. So you promote the most incompetent, lazy individual to get them out of your workforce. Everyone wins.
@@solomale2156 I think it's just a coincidence because this Simpsons episode was made 9 years before the movie adaptation of American Psycho was released. Also the book was released after this episode.
I need me a Carl. Or perhaps I already have a Carl, just like we all do, within. The voice that tells you to keep striving, that some day sunny days will come.
So one of the reasons I really like this clip, I was losing my hair, although never went as bald as Homer, but I got the hair transplant and things really started happening all around me. I really can relate to Homer in these scenes. People like a man with hair.
