The lack of structure and schedule is exactly why I can’t use this program. However, I have a friend who has used LLATL exclusively for 5 kiddos. Her 2 teens (junior and sophomore) scored EXTREMELY well on the PSAT last year. I think part of it is that her kids are naturally bright, but it must also say something about the curriculum too since it’s literally all she has used for LA.

I love it so much I probably would have tried to make it work if it would have fit my son's learning style. But it doesn't. And it's way more LA than I'm looking for at this age. BUT I can't even say how much I love it! I hope I get to use it even for one year with my daughter!

I've realized with curriculum that was developed by og homeschoolers, decades ago,, there's never much of a schedule. It's very free and no hand holding. That's how they rolled 🤷‍♀️ I'm learning to love it actually. Not so stressful, in my opinion.

We just switched to LLATL for this school year for my 5th and 7th graders. I love it so much! And my kids are really seeming to enjoy it and actually retain it.

I am really hoping it will fit for us to use this at least once! I really do love the setup.

For 7th grade, did you use any additional/supplemental language arts curriculum with this (like grammar)? The table of contents looks very literature-heavy (unlike the younger grades, which seem to incorporate ALL language arts components).

We are still using it for 6th and 8th grade. I haven't felt the need to add anything. It has plenty of grammar, literature, etc. I do add a writing curriculum, just because I had one I really wanted to do. But, there are writing assignments. Currently my 8th grader is doing a poetry unit and he's writing different kinds of poems daily. He's really enjoying it.

It looks like the copies you borrowed from the library are the older editions.

Thank you for taking the time to share this very informative video. I truly appreciate it. I was looking into purchasing this curriculum. However, I noticed that you mentioned the copywork is not as present in the orange book, but I really want something that teaches children grammar and other concepts through literature passages. Although copywork is less in the orange book, are the everyday words sections still presenting passages to point out grammar concepts and practice dictation or not every lesson presents a passage at the beginning of the week? Thank you for taking the time to respond back. I truly appreciate it.

Yes, absolutely! This program is one of the best I've found at using passages to teach grammar. They do it almost seamlessly. The passage is given at the start of the week and grammar lessons are taken right from that passage, whether it was copywork or dictation. They do one or the other with each lesson.

I already have the books for HOD's Drawn Into the Heart of Reading for my 10 year old but this program looks so good! I'm thinking of doing both and just not doing the book studies in orange LLATL. Thoughts?

I personally think that sounds wonderful! I'm not sure what my kids would say, lol. It's like the best of both worlds! Just keep an eye on the workload and repetition of skills/assignment types, etc. Be careful of burnout/unnecessarily extending lesson time....but I think it could work.

my kiddos are in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade. Do you think it'd be possible to use one level for all 3 children?
@anydayblessings2354
@anydayblessings2354 4 года назад
That would entirely depend on the actual learning level of all those kiddos. I would say if you wanted to try that, I would get yellow, not orange. There is more flexibility with reading choices in yellow. It would also depend on whether you plan to use a separate reading program at each child's level. That might make the most feasible option, imo.

@@anydayblessings2354 after further research, I see what you mean. Maybe I could combine my 2nd and 3rd grader since my 2ns grader is ahead. But then I'd probably need to purchase doubles of the chapter books, right? Or could I use the 2nd grade chapter books? 🤔

Can you help me please? I just bought the yellow book for the fall. We just finished LLFLE 2 with MB. I did buy LLFLE 3 (because I love MB) but, my son is still struggling. He is going into 5th and working at a 2nd/3rd grade level. How could I combine both books to make it my own? I am entering my 2nd year homeschooling and need some help figuring this out?
@anydayblessings2354
@anydayblessings2354 4 года назад
Can I ask why you want to combine two? Is there something you feel one is lacking that you'd like to supplement? If it were me, I wouldn't try to combine them, as they are both to complete LA curriculum options. However, the spelling is more clearly laid out in LLATL so that's one place you could merge the two for sure. Once you let me know a little more about how/why you'd like to combine them, perhaps I can offer some more practical tips for you. :)

@@anydayblessings2354 after diving into both of them last night, I am going to stick to LLFLE 3 and use the format you put together for Spelling. I will see how that goes. The Yellow Book seems all over the place and bit confusing. When I tried the sample pages I downloaded from the website it didn't seem too bad. After receiving the curriculum it was scattered and I just didn't like it.
