Thank you for the LLATL flip-through, it looks like a very thorough language arts curriculum for 2nd grade.

Strongly considering this for next year. Are y’all still liking it? We are currently using abeka for 1st grade and I like that this is more all in 1 instead of having so many components.

Yes, we still love it. My daughter looks forward to it every day. I really like that it incorporates grammar, spelling, writing, and more all in one. I haven’t used Abeka, but this might be lighter on some of those components than Abeka. For instance there are 4 spelling words each week (once they get to that). That’s plenty for us. My only real criticism of it is the readers (so far at least). The real pieces of literature have been great, but the readers aren’t amazing. My daughter enjoys them, but I think the stories could be better. I’m planning to order the next level soon and I’m looking forward to it. I’m still planning to use it next year and potentially beyond. Hope this helps! ❤️

@@peggystarling yes thank you! I’m first grade he has 15 spelling words a week 😳 I started spreading it over 2 weeks and still it’s a bit much… we don’t love the abeka readers either, just kinda meh. I think that’s the consensus with most LA curriculum readers.

Is there a scope and sequence of their language, spelling words, and phonics charts? Thanks
@peggystarling
@peggystarling Год назад
Yes, in the Appendix in the back. It is organized by category (for example grammar, phonics & spelling, reading). It states exactly what skills will be taught and on which page(s) that skill is taught. I found it very thorough for early grammar and spelling. No supplements were needed in my opinion.

Do you have to use the readers? I use the mcguffeys readers and have a few others. Looking to save some money.

The readers come with it in the pack (not purchased separately) and they are required for the assignments. The extra literature books are not required. Hope that helps!

How long does a red book lesson usually take?
@peggystarling
@peggystarling Год назад
Usually it takes us about 15-20 minutes. Sometimes there are things to cut out, so it also depends on how proficient your child is with scissors.

How is this going after using it?

So far it’s been great! It’s definitely very thorough. Some days it takes a while (maybe 30-45 minutes) to complete the day because of all of the activities/practice for that day. Other days are shorter- like 10-15 minutes. I wasn’t expecting that much variation in how long it takes. My daughter enjoys it, so I will most likely purchase the next level for next year. Hope that helps!
