Hey Friends,
In this video I share an update to my First Graders curriculum. We've changed a couple things along the way and added some new. These materials and resources will take us to the end of the school year, which for us is in late May early June. Some changes are coming for the upcoming year that I'm excited to share with you guys in future videos. I hope you are all enjoying homeschooling whereever you are in your journey at the moment. Be Blessed!

I forgot to mention that we are still using Learning without Tears Keyboarding (typing) program, Keyboarding without Tears. This is an excellent program and has worked so well for my daughters hand eye coordination, fine motor skills, building up her hand muscles for better handwriting skills and of course has helped a ton with her typing skills. We also use Wet Dry Try from the same company on her ipad. Again, same type of skill building beyond just handwriting.

Thank you so much for your videos. We are just embarking on our homeschool adventure with a kindergartner (due to covid) and would envision that she'd be back in public schools in the future. Last year she was in a PreK/K split class and really mastered many of the Kinder concepts (100% for math, 65-70% for LA). I'm struggling to decide which curriculums to use!! Especially for LA. A past teacher had recommended HWOT, so I purchased that, but now I see that LOE and AAR both have handwriting included so I'm wondering about mixing curriculums if they focus on letters in a different order. Do you have thoughts on that? Also, do you think AAR aligns more with public schools than LOE? My brain loves the concepts as laid out in LOE, but if we don't progress from level B/C in their program would she then struggle in a more "traditional" method. (I have no idea what that even looks like.) Thanks!

I thought I commented this, so sorry if it is a duplicate comment somewhere else. I have been interested in LOE foundations because my son is more of a physical games kid, as opposed to cutting/pasting/coloring (which it seems are what more of the AAR activities look like). There aren't a lot of people who have reviewed both programs. So I am wondering how similar the actual programs are (I would LOVE an in depth comparison). But I mainly wonder if you think I could buy AAR level 1 and the LOE games pack -- would these two work together, or are the programs different enough that they wouldn't? I have also considered doing LOE but just taking it at a slower pace if it becomes too much. Your thoughts would be much appreciated!!

No worries! I actually saw a question but then it wasn't there when I went back to answer you. So I'll try to answer your question as best I can, based on my experience with both LOE & AAR. So, LOE is a complete LA program staring in foundations A and moving through the levels up to D (which is as far as I have used in my homeschool) kiddos learn reading, writing, spelling, handwriting and reading comprehension etc as they move along the levels. LOE also teaches all the letter sounds right out the gate-meaning they don't just teach the short vowels then the long vowels but rather all the sounds the vowels make at one time. So a makes long short and broad sound or U makes 4 sounds like uncle, bugle, tuba, and pudding. It's a lot for some students starting out. It worked wonderfully for my oldest but we switched to AAR which focuses on reading phonics and some reading comprehension for my other two kiddos. As far as games LOE games are based on the way they teach the phonograms what I just explained above. AAR are past and cut but they also have some board game type games with reading with ziggy file folder games. So to sum up the two programs are just completely different in my opinion so either or would make the most sense rather than a combination of the two programs. Personally we are enjoying AAR more because I see so much progress in just teaching reading separate and making it the main thing. Everyone is so different, that's just my experience. I hop that clarifies some things for you. Thanks for your comment! Best

We recently switched from MLFLE to Teaching Textbooks and my kids are loving it. Had to have them go up by two grades though

Arispe Land - Motherhood Wholeheartedly I like the idea of computer Math but my daughter isn't a fan--maybe because she does a lot on the computer with Typing program and LexiaCore. Always an option though if things change. Thanks for sharing! Glad you've found something that works for your kiddos-such a good feeling when that happens!

Hi😃 My 7 year old daughter used master books math too. She was ready for more adding problems so we went with Accelerated Christian Education level 1... it’s been great. So many practice problems for her. Thanks for sharing 📚- Jessica

Great detailed video. I am interested in purchasing The Logic of English Foundations. However not sure if I should purchase Level A or Level B? We are currently using All About Reading Level 1 and we are half way through it but wasn’t sure how it would work with the LOE curriculum. Your thoughts. How do you use both? How much time do you spend on each?

Lynn Corp That's a tough one! One of my girls has thrived on LOE all foundations and is finishing level D now. My First grader (who I'm referring to in this video) struggled with the the multiple letter sounds and the pace they were being introduced so we switched to AAR 1 to slow things down a bit. Foundations A is recommended for Ages4-7 check their website they tell you what level to start on based on what your child already knows. I'm thinking B would be a good fit for your kiddo but I would definitely check with them to place her on an appropriate level. Hope that helps a little. TFW! To answer the rest of your questions. We spend about 30-40 mins altogether that includes both and 40 is max.

Do these file folder games come with the upper letters? We loved LOE!!
@LetTheMorningBringWord
@LetTheMorningBringWord 5 лет назад
Ta'Shiba I The Joyful Warrior The game piece tiles for the file folder games are either pictures, letters, consonant teams like ck etc. all lower case. The games are extra practice for things like reinforcing every word needs a vowel and practicing the word cards and sounds. The only upper case we've come across in the program is when we are reading a person or pets name in the story, on the fluency sheets or at the beginning of a short sentence. Yea- LOE is a great program..not for every kids learning style though but I guess the same can be said for other programs out there too. TFW!
