Me too Im looking for the session where uncle larry played a Christie McVie song 🎵 the day she passed . What an incredible song for an enigmatic performer by a humble session man .❤
Watching this four years later and it’s just so good. One of the few things that came from vivid is Home Skoolin! Tommy B. the Sloven guitar man from Cleveland!
Thanks so much for these man! I've been talking with people about this for years waiting for you to do something like this. It's not just about the playing, it's the experience, what you have learned after years of playing on thousands of tunes at the highest level, the totality of music as whole and how to play for the song and not for the glory. Its what every musician needs to hear. So much more than just guitar. Pure inspiration! Thanks again, speaking for myself and thousands of others I imagine, I hope you keep going with this these life lessons for guitar, they are really great!!
always fun to go back to these old ones, especially cool to hear you talk about never having made a solo album. glad to see that come to fruition twice already in a couple years. hope you're finding artistic satisfaction and general satisfaction in your life Tom. I really appreciate all the time and wisdom you've given to us.
Singers, pianist and other musicians should know that the guitarist solo and jamming is what many listeners are waiting for. Don't ever underestimate the popularity of the guitar. I don't play I'm a professional listener. JMO
“Is it better with what I’m doing or is it better when I stop?” That should be tattooed on every musician’s right hand...also, as a songwriter, thanks for talking about the target emotion. I call it the true north.
Hey Tom. Started watching about a month ago now. These videos have been kicking my ass. Keep up the awesome stuff. Thanks for making us all better players Man. 🤘🏻
Keep up the great content Tom. Much appreciated respite from all the bad news. I binge watched all of your corona diaries at 3 in the morning the other day. You’re helping us get through this. Thanks.
if you're struggling with the 4 chord at 14:14 - he's playing both the 6th and the 7th notes rather than just one or the other: from the 5th string to 1st string as follows - C, A, Bb, E. This is not unlike the sus lesson from his earlier vid.
I just came back here to watch this again and I realized that this was the best lesson that you ever gave us ! That was like getting 25 years experience in 20 minutes !
You are my new favorite person/guitar player that I probably will never meet. Typically I do not comment on any social media but your content is awesome. Thanks and stay safe.
Tom, I somehow (FB of course) ran into your channel and instantly became a fan. Your tone/touch/feel is second to none. Will now try to absorb everything u have to offer via YT! Greetings from Slovenia
Enjoying watching these videos, and it's such a cool inside look at a session man's world. As a new player, this is fun. Keeps things interesting. We also enjoy the guys that go, here's an easy lick and blaze through it, then say now you do it.
Call it whatever the heck you want, man. I'm just super stoked to have this killer content! Haven't practiced this much in years. So thanks, Tom. I'm stoked to watch more!
Hey Tom, I love your wisdom on music without even playing a note. You have started me thinking about so much more just mechanical/muscle memory . Awesome job and thank your wisdom and bad ass licks.
One of my favorite lessons yet. Loved your discussion on the abstract nature of music, and the comparison between piano and guitar, that's something I've thought a lot about as well.
I got into your videos a bit late, but they're so inspiring that I started from volume 1. One take, no editing, no production, only music : that's how it should be. Thanks man
You are the Truth!👊🏼 What you are giving away is “Tribal Knowledge” of a guitar 🎸 session man and that my friend is bad ass!! 😎 That diminished 3rd lick interjected to blues yesterday was a gem! Thank You!! Keep it flowing Tom😎🎸👊🏼
I've done several forms of Art in my life. There has been precious little satisfaction. I keep doing it because I feel I need to. You put some very interesting ideas in my head. Things I haven't thought about on my own. Thanks.
Sorry for the late reply as I'm watching these in reverse order. Great stuff!. Back in the 70's when I learning the business an old Nashville player told me.."hoss, sometimes it ain't what you play, but what you don't play". (lol) I never forgot that.
The earned wisdom man, the day we all learned about the Importance of the silence between the notes. Really enjoy the work you’re doing here, grab a cuppa coffee and listen to some wisdom and some good tunes, thanks man.
Speaking and playing the truth is what moves people. As you clearly know. Thanks Tom. So glad @chrisbuck pointed me here man. Keep doing this and you won't need to do a solo record. But we sure as hell would love one 😁 Bless da house!
You’re so right man. Piano players have such a vast grasp of arrangement and harmony and color, that’s why they’re usually the musical director in a group or the leader on a session date. And yet they don’t have the palette of touch expression and individuality that a guitar player has with their vibrato, bends and articulation. I think we all picked the right instrument guys and gals! Btw I love organ lines, I used to listen to and plunder guys like Jimmy Smith liberally.
Diggin' the Sun Valley shirt, Tom. Definitely my favorite sounding shirt of yours. Great tone. "Talking about music is like dancing about architecture."
Well said Tom. In the project i work on, I insist to convey emotions in the music. It is of the essence, thanks for these videos, they are amazing, you are a wise man.
I like this kind of Homeschoolin’ 😊🎸👍. I like the therm old musician wisdom you talk about. Here is some old musician wisdom that I picked up along the way. One of my old guitar teachers once told me: Remember to play the pauses...It gives space to all the cool licks.
