This is the game that hooked me on space games. The music, the wonder, the sexy narrator's voice, all of it was perfect.

Bentusi negotiated with Taiidan's new emperor, and finally reached a decision of exile instead of genocide. Only a certain population could be accommodated in all the prisoner ship, which means the remaining Hiigarans will either become slave or killed. At this point they made another sacrifice: many people gave away their chances to make room for the salvaged core, which survived the crash on Angel Moon. And who knows how many more sacrifices have been made to send it safely to Kharak.
@jadeimingan184

it is still genocide, even some of those ships have never even lived to see as shown that some were destroyed before they found a hospitable planet and only then only about 5 to 6 remain
@MingyuCui

At the last second, Hiigara flagship "Sajuuk's Wrath" jumped to the back of Angel Moon, hoping the planetary gravity well will block the signal for others to find out their destination, knowing it will also tear the ship apart, only to keep the core within Hiigaran hands, in the hope of a ressurection of Hiigaran pride in the future. (Later Hiigaran motherships were named as "Pride of Hiigara", name well-deserved.)

Well (I'm just speculating), in HW1 manual it's said that Karan have discovered it neutral-interface technology, and she will be THE ONLY PERSON witch that technology would be used (I don't remeber well but S'jet even threaten that she'll destroy that tech). It was her sacrafice for Kushan\Hiigaran people to be Fleet Command. About misticizm it's all around in Homeworld series - the music, the names, the atmosphere (like Jeawis, the Kushan are looking for home et cetera et cetera).
@MingyuCui

3. Council decisions. Bentusi announced that with Hiigaran Empire disarmed, (Hiigara re-assigned their fleet as a single armada supporting their flagship, which was equipped with the Hps core) that they shall be left in peace (and Taiidani might get favor in territory as compensation, just speculation, not mentioned in the book). But the council (of which most members were bribed by Taiidani) made a decision of Hiigara's occupation by Taiidani.

BTW, the core shows in the intro of HW2 indeed is a cheap version of the original one. The book mentioned it somewhere that the one carried by the prisonship was nonfunctional after the crash landing & 5000 years of weathering. They "counter engineered" it, made a duplication, and the result is "pulsing their space technologies at least 200 years forward". Damn it just reminds me a painting of looking upon Scaffold in sunset Kharak. Just thinking about the beauty of the scene makes me shiver.
@cookiehead2
@cookiehead2 15 лет назад
The Hiigarans (original ones) found the core when they lived on Hiigara. They then built a monster battle ship with it, and wiped the floor with the Taiidans. The Bentusi put a stop to it because it was boardering on Genoside (Bentusi had war ships then.) The Taiidan forced them all into exile, but The Hiigarans were able to hide the core on the Angel Moon and grabbed it before they left on the prison ships.

@moonblaster91 I don't think the naggarok would be a progenitor vessel because they said in Cataclysm that it was pretty much a prototype from another galaxy. It wasn't a part of a fleet.
@CelestialSofa
@CelestialSofa 15 лет назад
One minor quibble. The first hyperspace core was discovered 4000 years ago. In all that time they still havent been able to reverse engineer it and make as many as they want?. You might respond with an analogy - its like a Caveman being handed a quad core processor and told to figure out how it works. But that's not really appropriate. They are already extremely advanced, spare faring even. They have the technology and infrastructure to analyze and replicate the components.
@MingyuCui
@MingyuCui 11 лет назад
With the regret of Hiigaran's unfair and pathetic situation after the war, Bentusi blame themselves for Hiigarans' exile, and abandoned their armed navy, remaining only armed trade ship for self-defense. Thats pretty much i'd like to add to your story. and the attraction of this story to me is not about justice being served. Hiigarans are no more better or worse than any other races, but they are a people of pride, and they will sacrifice anytime without hesitation to save it or resurrect it.

Yeah, same here . I don't give a shit about Dawn of War 2 or Starcraft 2, but Homeworld 3 would be a game I would look forward to. Hopefully now that DoW2 is finished we will get a Homeworld 3 teaser at E3 2009. A man can dream...

idea for homeworld 3 (if they ever make it). maybe something lies beyond one of the gates of the eye of arran, something that forced the progenitors to leave the galaxy and only the bentusi. so without the bentusi the higarians did not know about what lurked beyond the eye of arran, therefore unleashing it upon the galaxy, starting a new epic homeworld game

2. There's no planet destroy event involved during that war, they did jumped right onto the high orbit of Taiidan mother planet. And the reason for that is to "evade their navy fleet main force" (which implies the downwind situation of Hiigarans, which is also a empire at that time, in this conflict) and to "launch a surgical attack on their Imperial Palace" to kill the Emperor directly. But what they haven't foreseen is the consequences of this bold operation.

No, the Hiigarans became a problem because they found the second core (The Bentusi had the first and refused to share it) They used the second core to end the war with the Taiidan by going to the Taiidani homeworld and destroying it. The Bentusi intervened and destroyed the Hiigaran fleet, the ship carrying the second core crashed itself into the Angel Moon to prevent the core leaving Hiigaran hands.
@Nanomaru
@Nanomaru 12 лет назад
@darkana9 No, they discovered the core, then back-drive the tech to make thier current ones, they could not replicate it exactly, but they made cheaper versions that they could engineer with thier current knowlege.
@SatyreIkon

Voltaire said something like: Even if there's no god, there would be the need to create one. I think the concept of the Unbound in Homeworld is somewhat similar. Karan has become a living goddess and the hope of her people, and by this was able to end all conflict in the galaxy. Maybe religion isn't such a bad thing after all if you read the instruction manual first ... :)

@SmokeSriker125 Let me guess: you want salvage corvettes back so you can steal every enemy ship you see. I must admit, the fleet you can build in HW1 is AMAZING if you salvage every ship and never lose anything.

Excellent summarize of the story, with a few inaccurate points: 1. (This couldn't be count as inaccuracy) Hiigarans discovered the 2nd core in the Great Wasteland during an exploration, while having territory controversy with Taiidan Empire.

The age of S'jet started much-much earlier. Kiith S'jet was a thing far before the exile of hiigarans, on Kharak they were so valuable that any kiith who killed or even intorigated a S'jet was exiled from Kharak's science world for at least a century, which basicaly meant the guilty kiith's death by hands of neighborung kiithid within a few next decades. Not mentioning Karan's own efforts in bringing her people back to Hiigara and fighting it back from Taiidan. Kiith S'jet is basicaly the most respected kiith ever.

@SlahyX nodoubt and besides if there was a homeworld 3 then they would of had it out years ago because homeworld 2 was made in or released and named best game of the year in 1999 its 2010 11 years ago. we'd be lucky to hear that some one has the rights to the game.

@mlarosa25the bad guy will probably be the T-Mat, the ones who made those planet killers. relic went into that idea but never really went into it. if you were to have an ally it would have to be the left-overs of the progenitor race. they'll teach you the secrets of hyperspace and the origins of the T-mat. would be totally epic if they did so

I understand what you mean man, I just don't like the whole mythologizing of the hyperdrive technology. Its not that I hate the idea of advanced extinct alien civilizations which remnants are present in the Homeworld universe. The alien control ship in Homeworld 1 was a great encounter IMO, strange technology left behind after its crew have been long dead, still posing a threat to anyone coming across it.

@CelestialSofa the implication i get is it didnt, the first core allowed hyperspace tech to develop from really short range to mid range, while Bentuss could go wherever it pleased allowing the Bentusi to set the stage, its implied/suggested maybe stated that the Core the Higarans had could have let them jump from Kharak to Higara in one go over 100K ly, but they chose not to, the Higarans became a problem because their core showed them how to make drives that beat everyone
@SpaceWolf011
@SpaceWolf011 16 лет назад
And maybe they will, Relic reacquired copyright for the game, they wouldn't waste money on something like that(it ain't very cheap, that's for sure) if they didn't inten to make something out of it. I assume Homeworld 3, but a Homeworld movie would be a fantastic thing(world needs a good SF movie, with a good, meaninful story, not just all exploding-world destroying films(and games, too) they make nowdays).
@kanesoban

Actually there is something interesting about this ending. If someone reads the script for what the original Hw2 story would have been, it begins with the Hiigarans having control of the Eye of Aran. Maybe Hw2 is actually a prequel to the original Hw2 story?
@MingyuCui
@MingyuCui 11 лет назад
Bentusi interfered the battle between the two largest fleets in the Galaxy, and in desperation (knowing the influence and long-time bribe of Taiidani representatives have been done on the Council) the Hiigarans blitzkrieg the Bentusi fleet, hoping to destroy the armed forces of that corrupted council at the same time. And we all know the result of that is the utter destruction of Hiigaran fleet.

In the 4th cutscene of this, they explain that Sajuuk is "neither god, nor myth". He's a ship, from the progenitors. It's like in Halo, the forerunners and how they're deified by the Covenant. Although, I will give you the fact that they didn't explain why there are three hyperspace cores.

I don't think that you get what I mean, I don't like the idea of all hyperdrive technology being based on some cores provided by some mythical civilization. I rather had it like in the original, that every civilization can invent hyperdrive on their own once their level of knowledge and technology is far enough.
@CelestialSofa
@CelestialSofa 13 лет назад
Something ive never gotten. How did the first core allow more than 1 ship to hyperjump and create the original interstellar epoch. Second, if 1 core is somehow used to jump any number of ships, anywhere, what need or use do the 2nd and 3rd cores have, they would be redundant. Third the first core was used for 1000s of years it seems inconceivable it was not reverse engineered in that time again rendering the 2nd/3rd cores meaningless. Last, the gate network is just a convenience? nothing more
@TheDutchGhost

I can't recall reading in the manual that she threatened to destroy the technology, but yeah she did volunteer for the operation. I guess I sort of had hoped that she would have had a successor, that the technology had been improved and that there are other such people out there. I understand what you mean about mysticism, its just my own taste that I didn't like how it turned out in this case.

But there would be no apparent reason for her to go hibernate. She sort of did her thing, now its the future generation's turn. Well that is how I feel anpit it/ Regarding the Garden of Kadesh, the Kadeshi mystified the nebular because they had lived in it for so long, its not as if the place really had mythical powers or something. The hyperdrive cores now become the subject of some kind of religion and that sort of got to me. I am not saying that the gameplay of HW2 was bad.

In punishment they were exiled to Kharak and Hiigara was given to the Taiidan as recompense for the destruction of their world. They Hiigarans were forbidden from developing Hyperspace technology. As they were exiled the Khar-Toba stopped by the Angel Moon discreetly and collected the second core before joining the fleet and continuing on conventional drives to the Kharak system. The rest of the Hiigaran ships were destroyed or taken to the Karos graveyard. The Bentusi took an oath of peace.

Not thousand, only one hundred. In Homeworld 1 you have criogenic chambers (misson 3), so she could went into crio sleep or sort of. For civliziaztion who can jump from one part of galaxy, to another, preservd human body in criostasis for one hundred years is peace of cake ;). I like HW2 for more tactics, more logical unit handling, better graphic, and story. In HW you can also find very mistic "crap" - "The Garden of Khades" for example.

It is a shame. I really loved Homeworld 1 and I liked Homeworld Cataclysm too, but Homeworld 2? I just plain dislike it. I hate all the mythical 'crap' (my point of view, remember) they made about magical hyperdrive cores and the fact that Karan S'jet was still alive after a thousand years because of having being connected to said magical hyperdrive core. I always had the idea that hyperdrive is a technological development every civilization can make in time. HW2 took that away.

...I unfortunately do not get the hype. This game, its plotline, and its ending don't even seem quite rewarding and glorifyingly memorable as finding the Khar-Toba and beating the cantankerous Gaalsien and traitorous Siidim in Deserts of Kharak, simply beating the Taiidan Empire while taking back the Homeworld Hiigara in the first game in either Classic or Remastered+Players Patch form, and finally going from unthanked miners to celebrated Beast Slayers in Cataclysm/Emergence. And judging by all the talk about HW3's story... I'm afraid to say it too disappoints so much in the hype that it OUTRAGEOUSLY makes HW2 a better game and a better conclusion. Addendum: Still good music from Paul Ruskay though.
