100% agree. Everybody talking about Dead Space, many forget that HW:C started the space horror game genre an entire decade ago. Even _Alien_ , which started the genre in film, doesn't stand a chance; a black raptor skeleton can't compare to the horror that is the Beast.
@@DirtyDishSoap The Prequel is only shitty because the Powers That Be pushed to have CGI over all the practical effects because they thought "It looks like it was made in the 80's."
One thing that pissed me off about Homeworld 2 more than many other aspects was the fact that they didn't learn from Cataclysm on its major strengths, such as hiring more than what seemed like 4 voice actors. The unique voices for every unit type in Cataclysm made it not only more immersive but it was much easier to tell which one was screaming for help, instead of the legion of similar sounding dudes in every ship class. At least Deserts of Kharak didn't repeat that mistake
Love the nod the the Alien franchise with the Nostromo escape shuttle that Ripley used at the end of Alien and is found in at the start of Aliens. at around the 11:17 mark. Is kinda fitting, considering both that franchise and this game are biological horror offerings. Also loved the Somtaaw Kith-sa's over the top accent. Totally awesome.
My favourite bit? The fact that there's zero pronounciation guide of any of the major names. Bushan-re gets pronounced a few different ways, and no one seems to agree on how one pronounces "Somtaaw"
Absolute love, atmoshpere is incredible, still listening to OST from time to time. The dramatic parts are incredible. Goosebumps. And the lore, names, oh God... so good.
We want a cataclysm remake...the beast will retun sometime...in the shadows of the space the beast watch all u moves...watch your litle fleet...we have only one hope...the Soomtaw
@@doomfallmustang9904 I'm not sure if this is you, but there's a modder with his own working on the Cataclysm mod for the HW: Remastered version. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2195601016
@@doomfallmustang9904 Recent update from him that the campaign design is almost finished, but he's on the look out for script makers. That was on Feb this update. Thought I shared this information if you are interested in contscting him and work it out. P.S, I do not know him, I'm just an admirer of good things to come and like to share information to people of similar interest :D
lol, u can capture it with 5 workers.. I did that and next missions I got myself fleet of Taiidan destroyers and missile destroyers) The problem is that later on Heavy Cruisers are easily subverted by Beast and can turn against you. Destroyers and Missile Destroyers can't be captured by beast that makes them more useful as well as any Taiidan or Kushan frigates.
While HW1 was good, i liked Cataclysm much better. The missions where more fun and the story was more interesting. In addition i found the ships to be more exotic (and therefor more fun as well). HW1 had a few missions i really hated..creeping thought the radiation free nebula-arm and the ship graveyard-mission. With Cataclysm i had at least 10 play thoughs, with HW1 i had 3 maybe 4 and i always skipped these missions in my playthroughs.
i know its a 5 year old comment, but you never know. considering how Gearbox is determined to revive the franchise (Deserts of Kharak, Homeworld 3, Remastered collection, Table top RPG and now a Mobile game) if they see it as a success they might decide its worth the effort to remake the game
@@smolpp585 Yes, there is definitely some attention to this series. If homeworld 3 becomes a success that will increase the chances of them just remaking cataclysm
I am actually working on a sequel to hw 2 (and a more legitimate sequel to Cataclysm) But I'm still in the early stages of development. I'll also need a team to get very far, and I'm going to do my best to keep it true to Cataclysm in terms of lore and whatnot.
First i was playing this, i thought " oh great, they found some alien signal, maybe it will lead for some interesting quest" But i didn't ever thought this will become a pure nightmare!
It's one of my deepest regrets that the source code for Homeworld: Cataclysm was apparently lost, so the developers could not make a remastered version. I don't know if that's true or not. But this is definitely an epic game that deserves respect and should be cherished forever. If anyone wants to buy it, it's available on GOG - big props to them for making it available to purchase as a digital copy.
Best part of this game was shooting the big cannon at one another in multiplayer. Made those games super tense you had to be mobile and execute evasive patterns and strike with pinpoint efficiency.
I always thought that guy who tells them to jettison the lower decks was a real hero. He knows he's already dead and his only concern is that they save the rest of the ship.
I've always liked Cataclysm a lot more over HW2. Damn shame that game never got a proper enhanced edition like the other two. My favourite bit is how they call themselves a mining vessel from the start, and later rock in designated a war ship.
