valve adjustment and walkaround of a 2006 honda 400 ex for a friends quad. after finding top dead center set intake valve lash to .1mm or .004 set exhaust valves to .12 mm or .005
I see you don’t have very many likes or comments. But dude…. Thank you!!! Both intake and exhaust were TIGHT idk how I didn’t bend a valve or crack a piston. All took at the very least 2 FULL turns to even get the feeler gauge under them. Again. Thank you
Si I aligned the crank shaft to T mark. I adjusted both my intake valves to spec but when I adjust my right intake valve my left one closes and becomes out of adjustment all over again. I turned on the bike and valves knock even harder.
Without actually seeing with you you're doing you're definitely doing something wrong the valve closest to the carburetor is your intake valve and the valve closest to your exhaust is your exhaust valve they both have different specs
Is it true that you have to turn it to TDC and it be on a certain rotation. Bc it seemed like every other turn of the engine it was tight around TDC and then it wasn’t. I don’t remember which turn I did it on
@@frankindiesel8300 correct. You'll feel compression building If you go past the mark you'll feel the compression release in the motor that means you went too far and it's just a fraction and you'll be too far.
Did that a few times and still same issue it even started smoking. So I've ordered new timing chain and top end valves with seals new springs everything. Even a new cam
Still ticking means too tight or too lose. Smoking means possibly to loose. You have to be very careful when you're lining up the little hash mark to top dead center If you go just past it it goes past the compression stroke and you're way too far. Your can feel if you go to far. I would double check.
I had it top dead center I did it twice first time had some and still ticked and second time no smoke and a little ticking and go aggravated and stopped before anything happened lol you know how it is
I don't know how many hours you have on the machine but it's possible now with the valves being adjusted properly that maybe the rings are a little worn and its more obvious now. 🤷
@@OdysseyOffroad yeah o haven’t really thought of that but it’s turns great no lack of power or anything just has a ticking like every 400 I’ve ever seen just wanted to give it a try to get it out
