I can confirm that my 2010 Accord Coupe with this engine is painfully slow. You should have tried it though by manually shifting the Honda. I can get a little more speed out of it, by manually holding it in the gears slightly longer, so that VTEC stays engaged.
Wow!! Thanks guys for considering my request about the accord! My son and I enjoyed watching it. Mamzie is funny as always " Smells like mouse in here"🤣 and "oh...I had it in park"😂😂 Keep'em coming!!
I have a 2012 sonata 2.4. Good to know it can beat an 08 accord. I raced it with my bother’s 1.5t 2021 accord and mine left quicker on the line but his accord caught up and passed me 🥲 both great cars!
Yeah absolutely! Your Sonata will beat any 2.4L Accord up to 2012, and possibly up to 2017 as well - Honda put a 2.4L engine in the Accords up until 2017. Although from 2013-2017 they did have a CVT transmission though too so that might make a difference. We’re trying to secure the newer Sonata and Accord and line them up, as both are turbocharged. Agreed though, both vehicles are great options for mid sized sedans 😃
@@accordlegend2925 Of course it does, which is likely why the Sonata has as much of an advantage as it does, being lighter than the Accord. We mentioned this in the video.
Yeah that would have been interesting. We just figured that, because the Sonata won by such a huge margin, that we would just call it a day. We usually only do rolling races with the really close matchups. But that said, this is a good suggestion, and one we'll keep in mind for future races, thanks :)
@@KingdomAuto Yeah, like I said in another comment, I have a 2010 Accord Coupe with this transmission and engine. This car isn't "floor it and go", but rather acceleration takes skill to work around the VTEC power RPM range. For example, manually keeping it in 1st, holding the pedal at about 60% throttle until VTEC engages, then punching it can actually be faster than flooring it!
@@JustinDaniels Yep I actually used to own the exact Accord in this video (Josh speaking) so I know exactly what you mean; I used to do that for fun, hold it in gear and rev it out more/start accelerating at a higher RPM, etc. It definitely makes a difference for sure! Just don't think anything would have been enough to keep up with that Sonata haha. The 6 speed transmission in the Sonata makes a huge difference too, so it would be really interesting to see the newer Accord's (up till 2017) with the CVT's in the 1/4 mile. Same (ish) engine but having the CVT can keep it in the powerband better.
Funny enough we literally just landed one of those a couple weeks ago :) we’re gonna try and line it up against a Lexus GS 350 this summer. We’re really curious to see how it does, those V6 engines were sleepers with over 300HP. We’re hoping we can make it happen! Thanks for your recommendation :)
Thanks for your suggestion :) we’ve got an Elantra Vs. a Pontiac Vibe out now right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f6IRdpARzFM.html And we are also trying to line up a bunch of economy cars for this upcoming season as well :) we want to get a Mazda 3, Honda Civic, Elantra and possibly others as well :) Granted, the ones we have secured aren’t brand new but they’ll be new enough to get a good feel for how the different brands perform. Either way, thanks again and stay tuned because there’s lots more to come!
@@cruzito4life571 Thanks so much! Yeah we thought so too - as of now we've only had a Mazda 5 out there (video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l8OeM5k-rbc.html&ab_channel=KingdomAutoConsulting) But we are trying to get more as well. So far we've got a CX-5 and a Mazda 3 ready to go for this upcoming season :)
That would be an interesting race! As of now, we haven't been able to get our hands on either of those specific vehicles, but if we do, we'll line up the race for sure :)
@@gmanbaz No he’s referring to the previous gen Accord’s that came with the V6 engine. They don’t make the Accord available with a V6 anymore but they were sleepers though, very unassuming yet surprisingly fast. One of those might give a 2.0t Sonata a run for it’s money. Hard to say for sure but either way it would make for an interesting race!
I knew from before watching the race that the sonata is gonna eat the accord hard. Honda doesn't know how to build transmissions, their first gear is allways sooooooo long!!!!
Yep you nailed that one! We were quite surprised at the difference between the two in the 1/4 mile considering how similar they are on paper but yeah those gears/transmissions make a huge difference
Both brands definitely have their pros and cons for sure. In terms of the features and bells/whistles you get for your money, the Hyundai takes the cake. But for reliability (at least with their naturally aspirated engines) Honda is the better option. Hyundai has come so far in the past few years though, they’ve really done a great job with their newer models!
Yeah for sure the sonata is better in only one thing and that's catching fire just lost my car 5 months ago which caught fire on its own thank God I got out of it on time called 911 by the time the fire truck arrived the car was already destroyed/finished with fire it was 2014 with 72000 miles on it never will I buy a huyndai again back to Honda and Toyota only don't care about the extra features huyndai offers for less price atleast Hondas and Toyotas dont catch fire own there own
Not at all, they made that exact Accord till 2012, and from 2013-2017 it came with the same engine but was even slower because they came with CVT’s Not apples to oranges at all - the Accord we had is even quicker than the newer ones so it had a better shot at the win. A manual would have potentially been faster but then that would also be “apples to oranges” because the Sonata was auto
The 6 speed auto on the hyundai makes it get to 100 faster ... plus the Honda is heavier lol ... over longer distances though I tip the Honda accord because it gains more balance at 120 kmph and above.. I know this because I use this Honda accord ..
Yeah agreed, the Accord seems to do very well in the top end of the RPM range as it picks up speed. We didn’t even think to do a rolling race when we filmed this because the Sonata won by such a big margin. But looking back on it, we definitely should have to see if the gap was any smaller. We try to run rolling races more frequently with our newer videos :)
In this case, no. Both cars are hardly even strong enough to spin their tires on the launch. The only aspect left to the driver is to simply put our foot all the way down on the gas and see what happens. The Sonata was much faster than the Accord in this case - nothing could have changed the outcome of this race :)
Depends which engine/transmission combo, the 2013’s still came with a 2.4L engine with a bit less power than the one we used in this video. On top of that, they only came with a CVT or manual transmission. So maybe if the 2.4 was paired with the 6 speed manual, then it would have a chance, but not likely with the CVT, as they made the car quite slow.
There’s lots more coming, just busy with family/renovating our whole house. Unfortunately it doesn’t leave a lot of time for video editing. On the plus side, the bulk of it is done which means soon back on track for a couple videos every month :)
@@sametyldrm8837 Thanks, we want the same thing as well - just that family will always come first, for both Miranda and I :) But we'll definitely be doing our best to keep at this series for sure
