I was quoted over $500 at the honda and two acura dealers so $200 is a complete steal and would pay that in a heart beat if it was offered to me. I know someone below got it done for that price at the dealer. I appreciate this video so I can do it myself and save $400!

@@mburlingame9747 I personally only drain and fill. It’s been debated back and forth, but I believe the pressure from the “flush” can push debris into areas one would rather it not be. I also remove the battery cable to reset the transmission logic.

I just had this done at Honda dealer on 17 Pilot Touring at 84.5k mi. It was done by prior owner at 49k miles at other honda dealer (have carfax record). The fill plug was completely stripped - had to spend $200 labor to have them get it out and new plug about $24. Atf fill was about $200 (1 hr labor) and another 48 for ATF3.1. so I'd NOT over torque that fill plug at all and i would replace the plug each time. I should have done this service, and will from now on- at 30k mi interval. Smoothed out the 9 AT ZF shifting now much better. IF i had tools and if i were DIYer i can see saving $200, but the risk to me stripping it or breaking something else isn't worth my peace of mind or time. But I will say I'm not using DCH honda (prior dealer record) where they left in a stripped plug and didn't replace that screwing the next customer (me) over. I bought it at 55k mi. Great video thank you.

Fluid Level on the zf9 can be 3.5 qts. plus an additional 100ml. Jeep owners that climb hills have found that steep angles (on the hills) cause the tranny fluid to slosh away from its main tranny components. They add an extra 100 ml of fluid to compensate for these angles.

So I am wondering if your shop charges less for the drain and fill when the actual procedure calls to drain, fill, go in VSA maintenance mode, run vehicle through 1-4 gears 10 seconds each, put in park, run at 2k rpms to ensure torque converter is full, check fluid level at check plug with engine running and fill as necessary. Or is the rest just actually BS that they want us to do to charge more $$$ for.

I wouldn't bother with changing the fill plug. It's at the top of trans case and will never leak. Honda engineers definitely dropped the ball on this one. @@BCautosolutionsIn fact, there are 3 plugs! Drain, filler, and a plug for checking the oil level when changing! They are sold only in a set and it costs $ 50-55 !!! The metal bolt is framed with a rubber band on the inside of the head. After 90K mileage and removing the bolt, this rubber band loses its properties. And if you put the old bolt, then in combination with the pressure created in the box for shifting gears, the result will be oil leakage. This is especially dangerous for the drain hole! Perhaps the author of this video will tell me whether I am right or not, based on my experience, and how critical is it to install new bolts ???? I am now faced with this dilemma, because $ 55 for 3 bolts with rubber bands is fucking too much! It would be better to leave the previous model of the box - there are only 2 deformation washers that need to be changed and there is even a dipstick for checking the oil level, as well as 1 of the bolts is magnetic, for collecting shavings !!!! And yes, the previous one didn't have any kicks when shifting, like the ZF.

Hi there! I have a 2021 Pilot EX-L AWD 9AT (orig owner, all maint up to date) and been looking around for info to confirm this.. Went for B12 maint yesterday and they said I needed a transmission fluid flush. I had previously looked up info on this and the maint minder code (3 I think) would have popped up - or so I assumed? Service advisor said they recommend it at 36k miles or 3 yrs, whichever comes first. I just hit 3 yrs today and I'm at 29k miles (Note: I've had a VCM disabler installed since Day 1 of getting this car.) Would totally appreciate your thoughts please.

I would recommend the transmission service on the 9at right at 30k. I would personally go ahead and have that done ✅

what would be the best way to do a non-powered flush? doing a drain and fill. Then disconnect one of the transmission hoses (cooler?) and with the car running, drain out 3 qt, turn off, fill 3 qt, then repeat until all fluid is clear. id probably skip VSA maintenance mode for the extra hassle. I think the total capacity on the 9hp48 is said to be around 10qt. I considered doing a drain and fill x3, but at 3.5 qt replaced per change, by the 3rd round 27.46% of the old fluid is still in the system. Wouldn't get to under 5% until drain and fill x7 which gets prohibitively expensive.
@jasonsong86
@jasonsong86 Месяц назад
Honda says after the first drain and fill you replace it at half the interval so first one is 60k and then every 30k after that. With that being said, there is no need to replace all the fluid with new ones. The interval is determined that the fluid will be in spec before and after. Now if you wait until 100k miles to change it, a multiple drain and fill is recommended because the old fluid might be out of spec.

When you’re going to change it , and you don’t want to do the level proceder do you want the car to be cooled down or warm

Doesn’t matter, just measure what comes out and out back the same.
@jasonsong86

If you really want to be precise, wait until the old fluid cools down and then measure the capacity. In reality probably not that critical.

To flush, you will used a machine to pull out 100% of the old fluid. Fluid change is what he did on this video. Flush or fluid change, depends on the service history of the car and mileage.
