On this video im replacing the transmission fluid on this 2019 Odyssey with the 9-Speed transmission
NOTE: at 6:24 when I said you hit both of them together I meant you hold the brake pedal and press the VSA button
Also when checking the fluid level after the transmission warm up and going through the gears in S mode the engine must be on when pulling the plug

@thehondatechnician
@thehondatechnician 11 месяцев назад
i dont know to much about the new vehicles and the VCM disabling products as the newer direct injection J series V6 do not have oil consumption issues as the older ones did. As for the older J series V6 with the VCM issues ive been trying to get one for my cousins V6 accord but all i can find are the generic ones on amazon/ebay that have different resistors. I have used that before on a customers vehicle and it seems to work good but the VCM still comes on every once in a while, the really good ones has its own little computer to control the resistance as to what the coolant temp sensor sees but i believe those are discontinued. Hope this helps!

My kingdom for a dipstick. I drained and refilled mine with 3.5 qts and it’s great except for one gear change, where it very infrequently flares before gently falling into gear. I’m guessing it’s under-filled but I have no way of knowing so I guess I have to take it somewhere as I don’t have a scan tool that can read Honda transmission temps.

I have a 2018 Honda Odyssey Ex, 9-speed transmission with 35k miles. When do I need to get the service done, plus since we won't have a dipstick how do we check the oil level if it's low and I need to refill?
@thehondatechnician
@thehondatechnician 6 месяцев назад
You can follow the maintenance sub minder (#3) on your maintenance life when it comes up or you can do it every 30-60k I know some places do them at 30 some at 60. As for checking it there’s no dipstick so you would need to do the level check procedure which I outlined in the video. Rule of thumb is if no one has touched it and there’s no leaks the fluid level is most likely ok

I listened to your video a few times to get the transcript of putting the vehicle in VSA maintenance mode. Did I get it right? VSA maintenance mode to Check Transmission Fluid Level (Car on jack stands, wheels off the ground) 1. Key on, 2. Within 30 sec, release the parking brake. Press down the brake pedal and hold the VSA button until VSA light come on in dash. Release VSA button. Press and hold the VSA button again until it turns off. 3. Release brake pedal. Apply parking brake (parking brake light comes on) 4. Press and hold VSA until light comes on. 5. Press and hold VSA until light turns off. 6. Press and hold brake pedal and VSA button at the same time until VSA light flashes 7. Start engine and shift to “S” mode by hitting the Drive button twice. 8. Use paddle shifters to shift to 2-4 gears waiting 10 seconds between gears. 9. Put in park and run engine to 2000 RPM for a few seconds to ensure torque converter fills with fluid 10. Idle vehicle until transmission temp gets to 100°F-113°F. (Check temp with a scan tool.) 11. With the engine running, open fluid level plug on the side of the transmission and let an extra fluid trickle out.

Yes these transmissions take a very specific transmission fluid. I’m sure you might be able to find who actually makes the fluid and buy that. For example, last year we had a shortage of dual pump rear differential fluid that mostly every AWD Honda now a days takes my parts department couldn’t get it from honda there was just not available and at one point we were actually getting Acura dual pump fluid which is basically the same thing but the actual company that makes the fluid for Honda is eneos it’s literally the same fluid, but the bottle has a honda branded sticker on it instead of saying eneos so if you can’t find the fluid I would recommend doing so research and finding who makes the fluid

@@thehondatechnician Sorry to say but the service manual of the ZF 9HP says checking the level at the end should be done "cold". That's why there's some ATF coming out when the transmission is warm. Some ZF HP9 with 4x4 transfer case are blocked at the top plug. So you have to fill it up with an oil pump through the level plug. After filling and the 9-shifting procedure, you let everything cool down and check the level. It's not very logical and convenient to do this with a warm/hot transmission....
