I’ve was never a fan of scooters, then I rode one, it’s perfect for running errands or riding around town, it’s the only bike my wife has agreed to get on the back.
@@RocketMan_Moto thanks for this review. I am concerned of a rear hard suspension for the pillion. And worse, it does not have adjustment. Will the pillion be comfortable over road imperfections?
My first motorized two wheeled vehicle was an old 49cc Honda Spree. I rode that thing everywhere, as an 18 year old guy! Just when most kids my age were getting hot rods or lifted 4x4 trucks, I was happier than a pig in slop riding my little two wheeler all over the county.
I watch a lot of reviews about bikes etc and have to say, that vid was spot on and covered so many details that most overlook, thanks for doing this man 👌
Thank you for the amazingly detailed yet concise review! I ride a 2006 CBR1000RR and an ADV150. The reversed horn and indicator buttons still confuse me to this day, and they are both Hondas!
Lol, yes it's an annoying quirk of Honda motorcycles. I am old enough to remember that Japanese cars in the 1970s & 80s had their wiper and indicator stalks the other way round compared to ALL other cars :)
I broke my hand racing an enduro bike..the thought of not riding bikes was too much so I bought a 7 year old forza 300....ive hardly ridden anything else since...absolutely wonderful little machine...never fails to make me smile...so much fun to ride....when I tell most bikers they say.....yeah...yeah...yeah...but i would never be seen dead on one.!...And in this youre missing out I say....are you riding for the thrill of riding or just to be seen as a biker!
Completely agree. I use my ADV several times a day, because just so practical. The Speed Twin hardly gets a look in, especially in winter, because it's such a faff putting all the gear on and, of course, I can't carry anything I might buy. Thanks for your feedback :)
At first I thought this review was going to be too negative. However, the detail and honesty emerged and was very helpful giving a well-balanced overall review. Very professional. Thanks
I live in Norway and did 3500km on mine already, only minus I can find if not compare to other bikes are very heard and not adjustable rear shocks, and as you said front brake are not sharp at all,I will order a bigger brake disc from Thailand. I also installed aftermarket brake handels with hand brake function on rear brake, that was really good. My real fuel consumption are 2,9L / 100km. But the instrument shows 3,6L / 100km. I will consider go for some YSS rear shocks. I love the handling on the bike, it handles all roads very nice and I ride with a big smile all the time 🙂
I would ride around Europe on it. Slowly. Taking the scenic route enjoying the landscape and coffee stops as much as the ride. Might not be my first choice but it would do the job. Differently. Happy travels 👍
I did something very similar last year and spent 2 weeks on a Yamaha Xmax touring Spain. It was completely capable for the trip and ideal for getting around in the cities along the way. Also great lockable storage space under the seat that allowed me to stop and see things I would probably not have done or seen. I'll likely to it again soon.
I plan to tour in France and Spain this May on an ADV350. The storage is a big help for travelling. The bike is more than adequate for the job. Very stable on windy, truck filled highways.
I have an older Forza and agree with every word in this review. My biggest trouble is the seat, but slouching into the backstop helps. Overall, great fun and practicality.
I have NC 750 (2018) manual box and Forza 300 (2013), consumption of 3,6 and 3,3 L/100, very happy about both, love the common sense that Honda implement on their engines if you aren’t Marquez on the road!!
@@RocketMan_Moto Sure!! I have to say that I like a smooth ride with my bikes maybe for the reason I love Honda engines but I appreciate so much your objective reviews!! Thanks so much
Adv 150 users here, the smallest version has an amazing ride experience with awesome suspension. I'm looking for this version but sad I'm just 173cm, controlling this bike in southeast asia traffic will be difficult
im a honda adv150 rider too and we are the same height i guess i was around 173 174 and i found my self good and comfort riding it or slip between cars, the only thing for me is i want a little pick up speed for it thats all, maybe after 2 years the warranty expired i will changed it pulley tyres filter and etc
I bought the PCX (160) a month ago and am still learning to ride it. I tell people it is like riding a nimble SeaDoo watercraft around downtown streets. I wish we in the US had the option of buying these larger scooters like Europe and Asia gets. The closest is the Yam XMAX 300.... if anyone can find one in stock. So I will just have to learn the techniques to get the most out of the PCX I have. Its reasonably light weight helps a lot on maneuvering it and MPG.
The PCX is the best selling 2-wheeled vehicle in the UK. Excellent run-around for the real world. Yes, big bikes make you look tough, but what everyone really needs is a scooter😊
I'm a curious newbie. What makes you choose one over the other on a given day? If you had to choose to have only one, would you go for a bike or the scooter?
I've just found your channel and really like it. You had negative comments about the ADV's seat, and I agree. I had a Honda 300 Forza (here in Australia) and it had a similar problem. I had a motorcycle upholsterer re-shape and re-cover the seat to remove the bum bustle. This gave me a nice long seat which was super easy to move back and forward on and was much more comfortable than the standard seat. I did many multi-day tours around New South Wales and Victoria. It was a great little tourer. Stay safe, Peter
Thanks, Peter. Yes, it's a pity about the short seat, but I was interested to hear you somehow managed to reshape it. I had imagined the need to preserve the space for the rear helmet under the seat would have made any reshaping very difficult.
@Peter Anderson, I really was liking this bike, but the seat issues and not being able to move feet is a real problem for me as I'm 201cm tall with size 12 feet. But knowing I can reupholster the seat gives me hope.
Great point about the horn button, why do Honda insist on doing this? In an emergency I always default to my lifelong automatic memory of bottom left. Obviously this is only a problem if you ride multiple bikes but is a safety concern. Maybe it should be made mandatory to standardise the position.
It felt like it’d been edited with tongue firmly in cheek. And not a scooter sceptic at all, my nmax is the perfect form of transport for round Lisbon. I even see the fact that it blends in quite nicely with all the Uber Eats a bonus. Though I came across your channel as now I have a garage and live out of town I’m looking into a Speed Twin..
Scooters are fabulous means of transport, especially with a passenger… but I’m not selling my Speed Twin any time soon. Unless Triumph give us a Speed Twin Turbo😬
Have à Nice day in the beautifull Algarve area 😎 congratulations 🙏🙏
I had a an adv 150cc i enjoyed it but not enough power when u wanna over take trucks then when i watched your review on honda cb500x 2018 model i bought one too ...now am waiting for this adv 350 to arrive in Phils.
@@RocketMan_Moto Living in Jakarta has some benefits; Small capacity, locally made Hondas for everyone and first in the queue for new models 👍🏻 BTW regarding the terrible noise, switching out those CVT OEM parts with aftermarkets is super popular here. Did the same with my PCX 150, it is now quieter, smoother, and a liitle quicker. Cheers
Great review as usual - I really like the look/spec of the ADV350 and will be getting a test ride on one ASAP as I would use it for similar duties as you (albeit not in such good weather!). Seems like a lot of bike for the money in many ways all things considered.
There is always a huge step in fuel consumption from 125cc to 300 o 350cc, my ex G310R did 3,5 l/100km, and most other 300 or 350cc bike are around 3,5-4 l/100km as well, to me the best engine in the motorbike world for consumption/power is the 500cc honda engine that the cb500 line has, it has pretty much the same 3,5l/100km consumption as a 300cc but in a 500cc with 48hp which is great
A very well-presented and thought out review. Although I have never ridden a scooter, I can agree with you concerning the seat, the sound ( I prefer quieter ones) and m.p.g.
Few Americans like or ride scooters. I started riding scooters three years ago and now split my riding time between the Bonneville, the Himalayan, and the big Burgman. Many of the criticisms you listed for the Honda also apply to the Burgman. I would love a shot at riding the the 350 ADV but it is not available in the US (nor is the Forza). I prefer my scooter to my Tacoma for anything within 50 miles of travel (gym, groceries). I rode it 140 miles to Daytona this year during Bike Week and was generally ignored. So be it. Ride safe RocketMan. (From the colonies)
Enjoyed your review. I hired one for a test ride in Thailand, since the dealers don't allow you a test drive, and I must disagree with the rating of the handling, I consider it to be far superior to the Forza 350, which I already own. The Forza has a tendency to want to fall over in tight slow maneuvering, whereas the ADV is very chuck-able, even though it's a tad heavier, it also inspires much more confidence in cornering at speed, feeling much more planted on the road. I also consider silver is the best colour, however it's disappointing they couldn't get the pillion grab bars to match, maybe black would look less bulky and more cohesive. The manual slot under the seat is a nuisance, as it reduces the capacity considerably by almost an inch of headroom below the seat level, and I have sawn off the ones on the Forza, to enable a bulging backpack to fit, and I can't understand why the glove box is not lockable, like the Forza. I've just completed a very comfortable countrywide tour of almost 7,000kms on my Forza, and would happily do the same on an ADV.
@@RocketMan_Moto Sorry to hear that. I too had back problems the last couple of years, culminating in chronic sciatica, ending under the knife to cure a herniated disc. It took 5 months to heal the muscle they dug through for the micro discectomy surgery, but well worth it in the end. I was only right for about 2 months before I took off on my trip. Come to Bangkok, I can recommend an excellent surgeon, he gave me back my life, best money I've ever spent. Hope you can find a cure. 🤞🤞
I don't really trust journalist reviews anymore. The MCM one that I just watched, for example, is pretty shallow. This is why your videos are a refreshing change from what is posted elsewhere. Anyway... my main beef with the 350 (SH, Fz, ADV) is the fuel consumption that has sharply raised compared to the 300. My SH 300 averages 3 L/100km road (not highway) and 3,5 city. The 350 has identical fuel capacity, which means that the range has taken a hit, averaging 250 kilometers instead of 300. From my perspective, the 350 SH offers too little improvements to justify the switch. But... The ADV changes all that. OK, it's a bigger bike, but a bigger bike is sometimes a good thing (since I also own a Vision 110, you know like me that we are prone to street bullying). I would also like to feel what the double yoke fork brings to the behaviour on disrepaired tarmac. Some say it's more confortable than the Forza because of the longer travel of the suspension. According to my dealer, the ADV are sold as soon as they arrive. I might consider selling my SH to get an ADV despite the 1.000 euro markup.
Thanks for your kind words of encouragement. I agree that the consumption so far on my ADV 350 has been slightly disappointing at 3.6ltr/100km, but I am hoping it improves a bit as the engine loosens up. I do miss my Vision 110 though, unbeatable with its 1.6ltr/100km, as you will know :)
Great review. I have a 2012 Honda PCX 150 it's great around town, can fit a full face helmetunderthe seat. Will do 130km/h flat out. I average about 2.4 l/100km. Thinking about upgrading to the new PCX 160.
Thanks, Martin. Unfortunately we don't really get anything between 125 and 300cc here in Europe. AS you need a full bike licence for anything over 125cc, most people who get their licence want a 500 or bigger. I can imagine that a PCX 160 is a great little scooter.
PCX 160 or new ADV 160? For me ADV since PCX tends to crash around due to limited rear suspension (I have PCX 150 2018). Just ordered ADV 160, awaiting delivery 👍🏻
Keyless is great, however both my new Honda scooter keyless failed multiple times even after 6 key fob battery changes. They should just have a flip key backup. (keep a spare battery). I've learnt never turn your engine off in traffic as sometimes it does not recognise the key
I have no problem with scooters. Every time i go on holiday in Spain or the Greek islands the first thing i do is hire out a scooter. They are cheap to run you can put a load of beer under the seat and take it back to your apartment. Fantastic from going from A - B. Cheers !!
I initially wanted to exchange my small Aerox 155 for the MT 03 for my daily 10 hours ride but was discouraged by many and until I saw this in the showroom which is more practical for my work. The only bad part is the price! Which is abt 18.4k euros(for 10 years) as I live in a country, Singapore which every vehicles need to pay COE(certificate of entitlement which is about 7.8k euro of ownership for 10 years) excluding road tax and insurance. Its a huge amount. But tomorrow I am going to the showroom to get the documents signed 😊... Thanks for your both reviews. Greatly appreciate 😊😊😊
@@RocketMan_Moto Hi mate, sorry for couple of questions. Does your side offer the box that can be opened by the key(as seen from honda launch video) and also connect to phone via Bluetooth?
I bought the little brother ADV 150 and I am very surprised. I had motorcycles and I found it a very cheap and cost effective way to commute at times where gasoline prices is getting crazy !
@@RocketMan_Moto the ADV 150 is about 2,37 l/100 km and I really ride it like not caring about the gazoline lol ! I am eager to try ADV350 and X-ADV abroad because the roads in my hometown are not very suitable for these bikes !
As a happy owner of the ADV150, I thoroughly enjoyed that review. Not that I have a choice of buying an ADV350 here in Australia, but I often wonder if the larger bulk and weight of the 350 version would outweigh the benefits of having the extra horsepower, particularly for a shorter guy like me. The extra width of the seat and body is very noticeable in the pics/video I have seen.
Great scooter right up until the point I got a puncture and needed to replace the rear tyre. Contacted 5 dealers here in the UK and all said they can't get one, one even saying that they are no longer made. So I've had to swap both tyres to Michelin street tyres, not so much an adventure scooter now. Come on Honda these are consumables!!!!!
Bravo for this new video. I intend to do a one month trip ( 2000 km with this model next november from Chiang Mai, to North East, and North West Thaïland. There are the most amazing roads to ride in this country. 5( Nan, Phrae, Phayao, Mae Hong Son Provinces ) I will rent it at CNX. Continue to make us beautiful and interesting videos-tests like this? please. Best regards, Tony.
Nicely presented. I just visited the Czech Republic and was riding around for 8 days on a Honda PCX 125 throughout the country. Found it sufficient for my use, except for the lack of luggage space. After the trip I visited a motorcycle dealer and saw this ADV 350. That's the scooter I'd buy if I could. In a place that has very twisty roads and villages/towns every couple of km riding a PTW with an automatic seems more practical. Plus it's hard to beat the convenience of the boot/trunk. Here in Canada I have a scooter - Vespa GTS 300 and find the power sufficient. Also, I have a bike - F750GS - and as much as it has a very nice ride and comfortable riding position, for European riding I prefer a (light-ish) scooter.
@@user-lm3fi2ee4x Of course, as long as you find the riding position comfortable for longer hours on the bike. The drive belt in the transmission may not last as long as a chain, but it shouldn't be a big deal bringing a spare one with some tools.
@@user-lm3fi2ee4x Hmm, maybe. At the same time one could say that sitting on a Motorbike gives you a better control , and depending on the bike and how it's equipped it can leave a gap between the pavement and the bike so your leg doesn't get crushed. Hiking boots can be used as riding boots. Sliding along the pavement at 60 kph it doesn't matter if you came off a scooter or a bike - there better be good riding gear
I am seriously tempted by one of these bikes. I own a 2020 ZZR1400 but one of these to commute on would be ideal...especially with fuel approaching £8 a gallon.....
Do it. I'm the first to admit they look a bit dorky, especially next to a Speed Twin or a ZZR, but honestly, once you're riding it, you don't care. Think of it as a Transit van - not sexy, but oh so useful :)
I would love you to do a comparison to the well known Suzuki Bergman . I’ve never owned a scooter until I just did a “ project “ restoration on a 1949 Cushman with a 7 h p rope start engine . I’m “ hooked “ ! Lol ! Good job on the narration sir !
Thank you for the review, to be honest yours is the most negative review I have seen for this scooter so far. I have yet to test it but will in due course 😊
when I was doing mods on my W650 I rode my brother's Sym fiddle 2 ...125 engine... Loved the practicality, and I know exactly what you mean about springing into action when twisting the throtle... It wasn't no once or twice that I did race a pizza delivery guy at a lightstop. :D... One of my possible buys to take my kids to school would be a yamaha tricity 350, to add the extra wheel on the front for riding in Lisbon's cobblestone and tram lines with extra security. nifty "little" machines... I even used it for storing my two helmets everyday, So I wouldn't have to take them home :D
Totally get this. Scooters are great for zipping around, transporting kids and doing the shopping. I’ve just fitted a backrest to my ADV to make it even easier to carry a passenger😊
I'm 60, I ride a 300cc maxi scooter because it's so simple, just twist and go. It's got loads of room under the seat to store all my gear after I've arrived at my destination, (usually the beach!) and changed into my shorts. Only then can I enjoy a good laugh at the other bikers sweating their b*lls off as they walk around in their full leathers and over inflated egos 😂
Thanks for the ADV 350 video, sold my Forza last week ADV arrived today I made the change for the upgraded suspension & wider bars. Like you no top-box, I'm installing a Givi backrest. Honda France gives a 5-year warranty great for resale value. Touring Corsica this summer. It needs a tail tidy. Regards, Frank.
I agree re. tail tidy, overall length is too great. I put the Shad backrest on yesterday, will be trying it out with RocketWife this weekend. Enjoy yours👍😊
Please sir, could you upload a video with the givi backrest already mounted, I'm Spanish and my adv 350 arrived yesterday, my intention is to mount a backrest but I don't know how the aesthetic result would be. Thank you very much for the video
They look a bit dorky, but we tried it this afternoon and RocketWife loves it. So safe and comfortable, completely transforms the riding experience. I might do a quick video on it👍
Very fine review. Do you need more for riding through the landscape? I also have a scooter Piaggio BV 350 and a Motorbike. I only like the Motorbike more for touring, because of the better suspensions, but not because of the power. Can you say something about the suspension on the ADV - mabye in comparison to a motorbike?
I agree, it's sometimes nicer to go slowly and enjoy the scenery! The ADV's suspension is excellent for a scooter, but not quite as nice as what you'll find on a proper bike. The rear shocks are a bit too firm, and contrary to what Honda stated in their original press releases, they cannot be adjusted :(
Hi RM Just looking back at this. My wife won’t ride pillion on my T120 (too tall for her to swing over) so I showed her this Scooter and the Forza and explained step over, move back to the rider sear and then up to the pillion seat. She is really interested so perhaps an option next spring. Like the styling of this (not anti scooter) but think Forza might suit is better. Regards Den
'à bit like sitting on a horse', well I could never get my feet on the ground on them either! Scary things, they have control over the throttle and brake....
I’m about to pick up a 125 scooter in a months time, and I am already planning the 350cc scooter after that. It was going to be the Forza, but this ADV is starting to get interesting.
@@RocketMan_Moto I have a cbf125 but I'm doing about 500+ miles a week (courier work) and so it's constantly falling apart and I'm constantly servicing it! Dreaming of something that can cope with the mileage better (8000 mile service intervals on this sound amazing). Good luck & hope you get that bigger ADV soon! Edit: at 36,000 miles on the cbf125, I think half the frame has been lost to rust at this point lol, these bikes unfortunately aren't up to the normal Honda quality...
Scooter is the best mode of transport esp in congested city...its the perfect replacement for a car for commuting, wt a top box. I hv a kawasaki J300 which i use forcommuting to work...very convenient, can bring my lap top & leave my helmet & riding gears on the bike instead of having to carry all stuffs if i'm using a bike
A really great review! To the point! Unfortunately a big disappointment is the rear suspension which is very firm despite the fact that is supposed to be an off road scooter too and not adjustable!!😪 Thanks, keep up the good work!!
Thanks for the great review. I ride Xmax400, and would consider this ADV350 as second scooter, as i like the design. You cant compare motorrides of bikes and scooter. I had trail bikes in the past, but the practical and hasslefree use and front weatherprotection make the rides more anjoyable. What about lights duing night rides, are they good, sufficient? Thanks and greetings, keep on safe rides.
don't know about l/km but here in UK my NC750X DCT was consistently 80 + miles per gallon ( = 2.94 l / 100km) snd the new 2021/22 X-ADV 750 is 1-2 kg lighter and 4 bhp more powerful at 500 rpm so can probably get better than 82 mpg --- NC consistently gave me 220 mile on a tank (350+ km ). I didnot ride it hard nor did I molly coddled it - people have reported fast moterway speed the mpg did drop to around 70 mpg but should not be doing 80 + mph on motor way any way
You would need to try both, of course, but I think either would suit you fine. I could have bought the NC instead of the ADV, but I just find scooters so practical, even if they are less sexy :)
Love your videos, thank you for taking the time to share. Question, I live in the US, but will keep one of these in Lisbon. I’m coming back in July, and will put down a deposit at that time. I understand you live in the Algarve, but, would you happen to be familiar with any of the Honda dealers in Lisbon? I have not contacted any yet, but I am concerned about needing to wait an extended period of time before I could receive one. Lastly, I have not done my homework, but I have a US drivers license and have driven in Portugal using that legally, of course. I will not be a Portugal resident, would you happen to know if there is anything I need to satisfy to operate the scooter legally? Thanks again for your time…
Thanks! We began our adventures here in Cascais, so I do know the Lisbon dealers quite well. I bought 3 new Hondas from Linhaway in Cascais and was very happy with their service. Artur spoke decent English, but I’m not sure if he is still there. Try linhaway.pt. As for legislation, you can ride up to a 125cc bike on a car licence with no additional training (other EU countries require a minimum course of about 1 day), but 126 and above - so for the ADV 350 - you need a full bike licence, which is a relatively long process involving several weeks training and a final theoretical and practical exam. All that said, I’m not sure how things work if you’re a temporary visitor from outside the EU. One way to find out would be to inquire at a bike rental company. Hope this helps.
I would trade my bike for your scenery every day! 🙂 I think you would be surprised, how many bikers started with a scooter - my first 50K km were on a Vespa 200. Brakes - I actually don't remember if she had any 🤣
I think I would prefer a “real motorcycle”, but as an amputee I would have to modify it to ride. So a scooter is the ticket. You folks in Europe have a much better choice of scooters than us in the USA. I would love to see the Forza, X-ADV or TMAX come to our shores.
@@112deeps it's crazy, but the bigger machines that blur the line between scooter and motorcycle just aren't sold here. Honda used to sell the Silver Wing here, but they quit it several years ago.
* Why no French version? Translating and re-synchronising the voiceover to the original video is a lot of work for a relatively small number of views and I’m seeing a disproportionate number of nasty, sometimes aggressive, comments from the French audience.
Hello, ty for the review. I was asking myself if the ADV is not too large for the town to pass between cars ? Is the Forza better for this ? I'm really hesitating between these 2 bikes. I want the more practical in daily life.
One of the issues I have with Scooters (Had a Burgman 650 for a while) is checking the air in the rear tire. Looks like this bike could be a bit of a pain in that department as well. Fat fairings, disk on one side, big transmission on the other. Or at least I found it a pain and couldn't really do it with a helmet on.
@@RocketMan_Moto Better than my Burgman which didn't have a 90 valve. At least with the front you only have the single rotor. The right side look easy enough to get to.
