Honda ATV TRX70 Gets a Seat Repair and Seat Cover Upholstery Pt.3

The original seat cover and foam on this 33 year old Honda ATV TRX70 is in need of repair. Follow along as I replace a missing section of seat foam and replace it with new high density foam. Once the seat foam is shaped and looks good, we can then install a new seat cover.
This is my first time doing upholstery repairing and covering an ATV seat and I am very happy with the finished product. Hopefully this gives you the confidence to tackle this job.

@free1 been there done that! On the right side just behind the round airbox the might be a silver sticker that says Honda and the year. The VIV is right in that area stamped into the metal and it runs vertically. I had a hard time finding it too! UPDATE: If you go to this video at 16:00 you can see the sticker was telling you about. Below that vertically you can see where I wiped the frame. The vin is there. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eNhWM_aMm9k.html

I recently did the seat on my 1997 Arctic Cat using this video as a guide. I used an angle grinder with a diamond metal cutting wheel which worked well. The blade is very thin so I used it to make the initial cuts where you used the hand saw as well as carving out the center by holding it in a vertical position and moving it back and forth. I had to be careful and go slow but it did a really good job. Thanks again.

That seat looks mint. I did the same to a Honda trx quad, the seat cover had split but the foam was okay though. Before fitting the new factory honda seat cover, I covered the seat foam in a pelt of sheepskin, basically like what you did with the layer of white foam ( i had to shear it around the edges so I could get a few staples in to the seat base lol). Then i fitted the factory seat cover over it. The seat looked kind of puffed up but it worked well

What foam did you use and how much did it cost
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 3 года назад
It was just some high density foam that I picked up at an upholstery store. I paid 5 dollars but they gave me a deal.

An electric carving knife makes a huge difference.
@garettanderson6772
@garettanderson6772 5 лет назад
You can sculpt with a carving knife. It cuts like butter and super clean cuts. And you plunge cut so you wouldn't have to cut all the way across the seat like with the cross cut saw.

What staples did you use?
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 года назад
I was told after the fact i should have used stainless steel marine staples but i used basic 3/8 staples at any hardware store with no issues. The staples i removed were original and rusty so those certainly anything special either.

It's is but I dont know what it's actually called. An upholstery shop would be your best bet but this is easily something you can do with great results.

I LOVED THOSE 3 WHEELERS AS A KID BUT NEVER HAD ONE - I WATCHED A VIDEO BY FORTNINE RECENTLY ON THE DANGERS OF THEM AND WHY HONDA STOPPED MAKING THEM - watch out for the little guy - i have 2 little dudes of my own,wouldnt want to see any harm come to them

I was one of them that got bit. Totally shattered my right wrist. The 4 wheelers are much more stable than the 3 wheelers. It would be pretty difficult to flip this one just because the center of gravity is so low.
