I'm 60+ and still do my own oil changes and chain maintenance but I will admit to covetting a motorcycle lift. Getting down on the ground is not so bad...it's the getting back up!😊

Yes, absolutely! I know the feeling all too well to be honest. I struggle with an old back injury from when I got knocked off 10 years ago - getting up isn't so easy any more!

good video. you should do one changing the brake fluid on the link brake system. that would help a lot of us out. as well as clutch fluid change an radiator flush. on the bird of course.

Just did the same to mine, am quite envious of your shiny new radiator, my stock one (and oil cooler) is very crumbly looking but still works. I ended up doing a deep clean at the same time having seen beneath the fairings it looked depressingly dirty. I initially tried to do it with the fairings on but soon decided that unscrewing the oil filter one handed with almost zero purchase wasn't a good use of time. Deep clean has involved taking the exhausts off, and front sprocket cover (gunge plus plus, funny the garage said they'd cleaned it a few weeks ago, lies lies lies), degreased everything. So pleased I've done it as everything is gleaming now, but it took several days. Now I have to remember how to put everything back together. Only draw back to this is seeing old hidden bits that are rusty and wanting to replace OCD perhaps, but nice to know it's in good order. Also many fairing clips have mysteriously disappeared so another task to do. Definitely decided to go for a shaft drive for my future bike, as the amount of chain related gunk was epic.
@MotoSera
@MotoSera 3 года назад
Sounds like you have been busy! It's well worth taking the fairing off at least once per year to have a clean up in my opinion. Heads off any problems. I've had shaft drive bikes too, certainly cleaner. Belt is my favourite though. Good luck getting it all back together, will be worth the effort!

Oh dear, ride out this morning and within 10 minutes I noticed that my indicators wouldn't work, then the entire instrument cluster stopped working and a mile later the bike died. Changed the reg rectifier and stator with ones from jaws a year ago which solved a whole load of issues. Goodness know what this is, answers on a postcard. Love the bird but am getting annoyed with the intermittent issues. Time for a different machine.

Hi Sera, I take my "big lady" (2002 CBR1100XX) after 6 years out of the garage. The oil was pretty old so I want to change it. I bougt the oil, filter and sealing rings. Before I change the oil, unfortunately, my Lady won't run well on a test ride. High fuel consumption, black exhaust outlets, the engine stutters and a smell of gasoline was in the air, and it seemed to be, that the motor runs only on 2 or three cylinders. So I'm looking out for a good Honda-Workshop and I found one 😀 And then, they found the mistake! A seal from the injection-system was broken and the combustion chamber are flooded with gas, after the engine reached her temperature. And two spark plugs (cylinder 2 / 3) are black, so he exchange all four of them. New oil, airfilter, brake and clutch oil, cooling agent and a broken taillight-bulb are exchanged too. Setting the valva distance and my "big one" ist running as fast as I bought it. So I'm a prettey happy boy! You show it in your video, that's so pretty easy to make a oil change. Sera, I thank you a lot of showing this video 🥰 So I can take the oil service next year by myself! 😀 Keep on riding, Sera! Greetings from Germany, Uwe

You don't have to take the fairing off if you have a different wrench. wingstuff.com/products/2065-oil-filter-wrench This wrench fits the filter perfectly and in the handle is a 17mm wrench for the plug. You can snake it up there easily and remove the filter. If you don't have a Fenda Extender by Pyramid Plastics then I would think about getting one. It keeps all that mud from being flung onto your bike. I just use 3M double sided tape to put them on. no screws or bolts. never had one fall off. For those who may want to know... Torque for Drain bolt is 22 Ft/LBs or 29.83 Newton-Meters.

Great videos thanks. I'm hooked. Have you ever had to change a thermostat on a blackbird? I'm looking at getting a blackbird soon but that seems to be a discussion point. Thermostats. With older bikes or higher mileage that causes some concern. Any info would be handy.

Not too much to be wary off - reg/reg and cam chain tensioner on the carb models. On the FI models loom fix needs doing, but most have already been done. Oil lines are starting to rust/fail depending if they have been used in the winter and salt or not. They aren't too hard to change but can be fiddly. Really, for 20 year old bikes they are pretty much bomb proof. Much as you would expect from Honda. Thanks for watching!

I see that you did not warm up the engine before drain the oil... And why did you use the most cheap oil in the market?? I use Ravenol Motoracing and makes a huge diference because Tungstene and other aditives which helps to reduce friction and increase power.

@@MotoSera yes, the Manol and Castrol are "good" and "never had any problem with them" and "the engine still runnning" ok, but there are a lot of good oils like Bhardal, Silkolene and Ravenol which will improve the bike in therms of performance and fuel consumption. Just saying!! take care bye!

couldnt help but notice that new looking aluminum radiator. does it help with the cooling or because you have a carb model cant really tell any difference?
@MotoSera
@MotoSera 3 года назад
I expect the old one failed due to corrosion - the bike had done 45k miles when I bought it - and a Chinese aluminium rad is cheaper than a genuine one. It fouled the fairing in a few places but I sorted that a while ago. It does cool very well though!
