In this review, we look at Honda's CB500X - a middle-weight adventure bike, with everything going for it (and surprisingly little to remember it by!). Presenter & Cameras: Nadim Sadek || Producer & Researcher: Searsha Sadek || Editor & Music: Joe Bradley || Thanks to Chris Salmon & Astra Honda Jakarta for their generous support and fun participation in this episode.

I have one in NYC. It does it all I love it. Safe, dependable, nimble, great economy, carries gear and has passenger and plenty of power in the city. Can't say enough good. I love the smooth yet peppy engine, I love the 2nd gear at 19mph in heavy traffic. I do wish it had more range in first gear and second gear. This would make it truly the ultimate urban machine....

Glad to hear you're delighted - and thanks for commenting! It's a bike that deserves the loyalty one hears, like this. By the way, watch out for our new episode out in the next week or so - it's a Triumph Street Twin, in Manhattan!

Been going through CB500X reviews, and found yours, which I enjoyed very much. I moved to Thailand eight years ago and jumped from a Honda SP2 to a Honda Wave, a culture shock. I have to accept that I am now an over 60 born again biker. The CB500X seems to suit me perfectly. Also made in LoS, so good price, and Honda have the best dealer network by far. So off to Big Wing in Lopburi to haggle.

Over here it became very popular, there are license restrictions and most people don't bother getting a license for over 500cc (A - above 47.5hp) so they stick with it and this bike is perfect, it got enough power to go safely on the highway, sometimes there are dirt roads here, nothing serious just easier to ride through them then going around them, it can carry a nice amount so it can be used for regular day to day needs. I don't know if it comes with DCT like the rest of the Honda lineup (mostly) because over here if you want automatic you just go for a scooter, people that want a motorcycle get it manual, that's why the Africa twin for example sold here very well but only in the manual version, the DCT sold only 3 units in 2016. It has it limits of course and it is not off road ready right out of the factory, just a bit better at it then others, but with a few modifications it can do a bit more.

It really is an incredibly sensible bike - gentle but sufficient power, great spec, excellent reputation for reliability, and so on. After riding it, it's easy to wonder why you'd ever have anything else. It's just the absence of a beating heart, somehow, that stops it really seducing you.

Great review of such an unsung hero of the Honda range... When I am able to afford a Motorcycle, this will be the chosen 1 for all the reasons you stated. Where else can you have the reliability of an adventure bike that does over 80mpg and weighs in at under 200kg... 👍

That's kind of you - thank you! It is a truly great bike, for so many reasons. It should be doing so much better. It's day will come, we feel - though we think Honda could show a lot more confidence in it, too!

I watched countless of reviews of this bike together with the CB500r, but I loved the way you pointed out the bike purpose of being a workhorse and for city commuting.Also how you describe the context and the city where the bike is. I have a question: are the handlebars the same height as cars mirrors, or do they clear them? Congrats for your channel and keep the reviews coming. You have a new subscriber.

@BossBikesClub 7 лет назад
Thanks, Tony - we appreciate your compliment, and your subscription! There are a few more on the way... We're finding it harder to answer the height question these days, as cars and vans are also changing mirror heights. They're not especially wide on the CB500X in any case, so we simply didn't find them a challenge while filtering (in that laminar flow!).

Nice video and nice bike. This CBX500 is very similar and a great alternative for the NC750X. I am studying to buy a NC750S DCT (Naked and Automatic). Nice review, well done.

Question, I always wondered why people want a motorcycle with a DCT? It is less engaging and if you're going to use it for urban travel, wouldn't a scooter be much better? You know more comftrable, more storage and so on.
@DouglasSotnas

WarDogTheAwesome well, in my particular case, I want a big bike but I am left leg amputee and use a prosthetics, so the DCT for me its the best thing.

Of all the places to review this bike ,Jakarta is actually a strange place. Jakarta is big on 150cc scooters, the flood the streets like nothing else. Bikes like the CB500X usually only come out on weekends. Nonetheless great review, would like to see a review of the Africa Twin in Jakarta during peak traffic hours. Should be an interesting site to see
@BossBikesClub
@BossBikesClub 7 лет назад
Hey Dony. Thanks for being in touch! We agree, it's not a common bike to see in Jakarta...but...the point we make is, this really is a fabulous urban commuting bike, and we believe we are about to see a flood of small, compact urban-adventure bikes, as they're so well suited to cities. The CB500X will be the 'Daddy' of this new wave.

Boss Bikes Club I agree that smaller cc trail/adventure like bikes will be quite popular going forward but I'm not sure this is the case in Indonesia. Bikes imported or above 300cc are taxed almost 3x their US prices. I own two bikes; a Zero DS which I use as a daily ride; I paid USD$25K and a recently purchased Africa Twin for USD$38K. Until the taxes come down the average Jakartan will still be riding their $1000,125cc scooter. Just my thoughts
@BossBikesClub
@BossBikesClub 7 лет назад
Thanks for these observations too, Dony. I'm sure you're right re. Indonesia. Our reviews have a global audience, so sometimes our conclusions are in the wider context of biking, rather than only where we ride the reviewed bike. Very interested in your views on the Zero DS - we are about to review a Zero!
@nebacanzer

the Zero DS without exaggeration has been the best thing to happen to me in my Jakarta commute. looking forward to your review.

Great review! and if this bike is compared to BMW G310gs what would you prefer?
@BossBikesClub
@BossBikesClub 7 лет назад
Thanks! We haven't ridden the G310GS yet, but look forward to it. Our expectation is that it will be a significantly smaller bike, and with less power. As an urban commuter it might be even better than the CB500X, but it's unlikely to be as good 'on the open road'. Two great bikes though!

How easy is it for a foreigner to get this bike ? I had this bike in Canada (2014 model) and loved it Here in vietnam , although illegal, anyone can easily buy a bike 150cc or less.

Hi there. Thanks for getting in touch. As you can see, we get around the world, and while we try to immerse ourselves everywhere, it doesn't really stretch to knowing the legal ins and outs of each market. We did find this article for you, which might be of some assistance: vietnammotorbikerental.com/buying-vs-renting-motorbikes-vietnam Happy biking!

2:38 In Jakarta you have to put one more license plate in front of your bike?? *That's so dowdy*

Also Boss B - getting a test ride on one of these will be impossible as I'd have to buy first then wait for it to get shipped from Jakarta ..., So Question again : How tall are you and inseam size if possible .., as I am 6'2" and with long arms and legs, and I am just trying to get a grasp on how I'd fir this bike judging from your size in the video . thx ps; I would also be ordering a Full Rally Raid version 3 to install on this bike but it wont change seating positions : www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk/honda-cb500x-cb500f
