Been testing everything trying to diagnose my non-charging 1976 Honda CB750F/cafe racer. Not only did you help me realize I had the ohms setting wrong but, suggesting injecting 12v into the white wire is genius. Literally did that 5 min ago and my volts came to life revving into the 14v's range. Thank you for this video and your enthusiasm is awesome!!

Also Stephen, if you haven't figured this out yet, I think that the newer (80s etc) models have a voltage regulator & rectifier in one.

Hey man great Video. I have a 77 honda CB750K, Its my first bike and I just got it out of the shop and it ran great with a new battery for a few days but now it is dead. I didnt leave it on, and the battery will not hold a charge. I have had it plugged into a trickle charger but its not doing anything. how can I know what the problem is if the bike wont run?

Is the exciter coil separate from all the other coils on the stator? What does it do? Does the rotor have fixed magnets or electro magnets? Where does the current for the electro magnets come from, if it has them?

Hi Adam, Loved your video. I have a 78 CB 550K. Before I start ordering parts I need to see if you can help me first. I was putting my battery back in after painting the holder. Anyway some kind of a way the post touched the cables on the wrong side because I was trying to install the way were I could see the level lines. I didn't realize it until I seen smoke coming from my rectifier. I had the side cover off because of changing fuse box because previous owner had problems. After seeing what happened I pulled battery out and made sure it went in right with out touching post at all. Now here is the problem, when I connect the battery had to turn around for cables to fit. The rectifier gets super hot and starts smoking at wires. Do you think I need the rectifier and regulator or more? I did the test with unplugging the stator wire and seeing if it is grounded and its not. I hope you can help me. This sucks that it happened to me. I know everyone is laughing but shit happens to everyone sooner or later. Thanks, Chaz

What year of CB750 is that in the video footage? As I don't recall my 1982 CB750 having a voltage regulator.

cycleadam It doesn't even have a voltage regulator in my manual either and the engine you have on your footage looks like an older model than mine. Mine is 1982 and you're looks like it's from the 70's. Is that correct?
