This is a bit confusing. The title says 96-2000 civic, but the car in the video is a 2001 or newer. Now I must watch a different video to make sure the process is the same on an actual 2000 civic.

It can be difficult. Having Long needle nose pliers helps.

Is there a special brake tool to reach the adjuster through the access hole? It’s not a straight shot. And my drums have a very deep recess. They won’t slide off and i cant reach the adjuster with regular screwdrivers and picks.

You forgot to mention the adjuster has to be closed completely when applying.

What size bolt is used to take off the drums?
@thewarrior313
@thewarrior313 3 года назад
I think they are 8mm in size, not for certain.

Or just use a hammer to brake the dust, then pry it open with a flathead.
@chrisnava8326
@chrisnava8326 3 года назад
They are 12mm bolts. You can remove the 12mm bolts from your front seat bracket and use them to push drum cover off. Just make sure you screw bolts into the drum cover by hand first before torquing evenly

Your adjuster isn't tight enough, but you can tighten it by driving in reverse and using your e brake. This makes it much firmer faster, or you may have put your adjuster in backwards

Ive done this several times already. With new shoes and drums. I cant seem to figure out why the shoes are far out and wont go in for the drum to go on. The adjuster is closed all the way but for the life of me the shoes will not go in any further
@HaynesManuals
@HaynesManuals 4 года назад
If the adjuster is fully compressed, then there are 3 likely causes: 1/ Adjuster strut not locating correctly with the shoes 2/ Handbrake cable not fully released 3/ Incorrect shoes
@JohnDoe-cs5uo
@JohnDoe-cs5uo 4 года назад
@@HaynesManuals shoes are the correct ones. Adjust looks like its seated correctly. E brake i have no idea if rhe cable is releasing or where the shoe lever is suppose to be. I backed off the adjuster nut almost all the way on the ebrake handle. Just dont know how far out it should be in the drum area. I have the part where the cable seats in the lever up against the little bracket thats there where also the cable houses at but dont know if that bottom of the lever is suppose to be seated farther out. Im lost
@bFORCe2003
@bFORCe2003 3 года назад
@@JohnDoe-cs5uo your shoes wont be centered properly. Just move them up or down until the drum can fit on.
@JohnDoe-cs5uo
@JohnDoe-cs5uo 3 года назад
@@bFORCe2003 as weird as it sounds. That didnt work either. What i did was open the bleeder valve to decompress the wheel cylinder and that some how allowed the drum to go on. My first time so i found that weird.

As a mechanic/aircraft/marine/heavy truck/auto for OVER 56 years...your manuals SUCK ! they are way to simple, useless, and have NEVER helped even one "stuck" person solve a issue !!. "See dealer" is NOT a solution for the average car owner...shame on your whole publication..
