I spoil you guys I really do, You asked for a 2 stroke motocross, so what did I do? I went out and bought a legendary one to restore! ;)
PATREON If you would like to help support the channel you can find my patreon account here / rrcrestoration
So its a 1986 Honda CR250R ( sadly the 500R is out of my price range ) made in November 1985 but the model year is 86, confusing I know but it is what it is. It started its life at the Honda manufacturing plant in Japan before being shipped out the the USA to spend most of its life in Colorado, now its here in the UK ready to be transformed from its current tired and grubby state to its former glory and when I say former glory I mean it will literally look like it just rolled of the production line, so stay tuned for the full series to see if I can keep that promise!
In this episode its a case of stripping it down to a bare frame to see what we are left with , what needs to be replaced and most importantly to see if there are any nasty surprises lurking underneath all that plastic and dirt.
So I hope you will enjoy the first episode of the series and ill see you all again very soon,
Enjoy
RRC

Radiator...washers are MIA! 😫 Like your assortment of crowfoot wrenchs. 14:26 It must be frustrating having to "film" in detail all the steps you perform! It more than triples your time involved not to mention the editing later on. As a viewer it is very much appreciated. Also, quite professionally done. Hope it's worth all your effort cause, we as consumers are all very entertained. Look forward to see how you address many of the pieces that needs your attention.

It just suddenly occurred to me, your videos flow so smoothly the camera angles and setup are incredible! Nearly every nut and spring individually focused on to undo and then a separate setup to throw it in the storage tub. Jesus that’s so much extra work but so with it when we watch the final results! If you ever need a volunteer camera operator I am more than willing to help out!

Great project, I will be keeping my eye on this one since I am also restoring 85 CR250R. Very interested in what you are going to do with rear brake drum since they are usually way past service limit and it is pressed in to the rear hub! Also if your right side cover is corroded (water pump cavity) check your radiators cores because they will be plugged with deteriorated magnesium from the engine cover… Looking forward to see your work!👍

Awesome as always - looking forward to the resto. Going to suggest the loose rad was due to the rad rubber grommets being worn (that engage on the "spigots") - when they're new, the rad feels way more solid when bolted down.

my brother bought one of these brand new back in the day - it was the best motorcycle out of all the dirt bikes in our circle of friends and then some. one of our friend's was so impressed he eventually bought a used one which had been slightly modified. it was good but still not as good as my brother's - that bike didn't need any fiddling, except for maybe a pipe. I found a like-new one that had gotten squirreled away for a couple of years, and the shop knew what they had and wouldn't budge on the price. I regretted not paying what they wanted.

Old two stroke bikes are a blast to work on, I have a feeling this is going to be the best series yet. Man i made a moped out of a cr250 chassi! In my country you’re only allowed to rides bikes with 50cc. So i took the engine from my totaled Honda mt50 and put it on the cr250 chassi(i got it free from a friends dad beacuse the engine had seized. Man all the kids was so jealous. Later on, i put on a 70cc cylinder and bigger carburetor and damn it flied across the woods and roads. Later when i was 18 i put on the original 250cc engine that i renovated. Thanks for making me remember this!
