Well this is it, the final ride of a legend. the CR500. Bike sold today and the new owner is pretty happy. I will now be starting to get the parts together for the 1990 CR125 project for 2019.

The soundtrack of a two stroke brought back memories of old, both the love of the rush and also the anxiety of the beast that wants you dead.

Bitter sweet to see the 500 go, that final ride was a nice reminder just how scary fast that bike is. whoever has purchased this bike is one lucky person. This should be on everyone’s bucket list to ride one. Thank you for sharing again this has really ignited a spark in me and hopefully when I am well again I can think about getting one myself.
@TNTMOTO

Thanks again for watching and leaving a positive comment. Yes this was a bucket list item for me when I got back into riding again after a 27 year absence. This particular bike was way too much for me. But the new owner has already messaged me his enjoyment. I would also like to do the other brands big bores of this era. Hopefully I can find them for reasonable deals. Cheers and take care.

TNT MOTO no thank you! It’s easy for me to be brave in the messages but the reality is I would be terrified of it, I would still ride it and love every second but I probably would ride like I was carrying TNT 😂 Glad it worked out for the new owner it’s so nice to do something you love and get such satisfaction from it. Really looking forward to your next videos.

My CR500 was my second dirt bike ever. I bought it brand new to erase the nightmare of a (ab)used Suzuki RM125 that never could get past about 15mph for me, so I wasn’t fooling around for my second bike. This brand new 1995 CR500 was a B**** to start and nearly tore my arms off, but she would take me flying like a fighter jet in afterburner. Today I’m a pilot thanks to that Honda CR500, she uncovered my love or flying!

Had an ‘85 that I used to ride in Glamis. Had a 10-paddle on it and boy was it strong. Very difficult to keep the front down with a paddle on it. I couldn’t begin to ride it to it’s potential, but you could leave it in a higher gear and cruise, blipping the throttle once in a while. Before that bike, I had an RM500. It was air cooled and a 4-speed. It didn’t last too long between top ends in the sand, would get hotter than hell. My last bike and the one I rode the most was a ‘97 CR500. It was easier to ride, more tractable power and of course the suspension was light years better. I’ll be 55 this week. I suppose I could still start one but I wouldn’t last long riding one! Great memories, thanks for the video!

I had that same year 500. Very fast. They featured it in a drag race with a 750. I think the cr500 won. Not the best suspension but that's what made it so scary/fun to ride. I had my 85 back in 1990. Lotta fun. Great job on restoration. I love that era of the hondas. I'm dam near 56 now and beat all to hell, but in the early 90's I had an 86 CR500 torque ported by Moose Racing, their 2 lb flywheel weight, DG National pipe, Boyesen Reeds. I could idle right down with the flywheel weight and just pick my way through the woods of Michigan leaving it 3rd gear never shifting, it was like riding an automatic. That was the Dr. Jekyll side of it. Get it into the intermediate jet and beyond and you immediately get to shake hands with Mr. Hyde, and he had a mean grip! That bike was an absolute beast, you better be leaning WAY forward and be pointing in the direction you want to go when you muster up the courage to wack it WFO. My friends called it the "widowmaker", it scared a couple experienced 250 riders to the point where they did not even want to ride it. Eating Banshees for lunch was a favorite activity, I cheated a little by taking the 500 stickers off the swingarm. The seat just said CR, I would think the huge cylinder would tip them off but it never did. However the big D752 on the rear throwing boulders, logs, and whatever else it ripped up at them very quickly tipped them off this was no 250. When asked when it came on the pipe I would reply if you could hear it running it was on the pipe, the thing had a powerband a mile wide and a mile high. Thanks for the memories of the craziest most fun dirtbike I have ever owned.

I had a 86 cr 500 sold it 6 years ago. People thought I was crazy when I would be unloading it especially since I was 5'7" 180lbs but riding since i was 8 I'm now 49. There's nothing like it and nothing that could touch it. I had so many people ask me if they could ride it sum I would tell them if you can start it you can ride it needless to say not many rode it it's not a bike you let just anyone jump on unless you wanna see them taken away on a stretcher. I even have real vintage beast of a bike I've been riding for many years 1973 Suzuki tm400 cyclone the original 'widow Maker'. You could not sit on this bike and kickstart it both legs had to be on same side of bike or get a permanent scar on your right shin.

sweet looking bike dude :) I raced a 1988 cr500 in the expert class when i was 20 years old,they are a whole lot of fun,i even used to ride supercross tracks on it but not race sx on it,they are not the best handling things compared to modern bikes but they dont sound sh#t like a modern crf450 either lol,people say that they are not that powerfull next to a crf450 either but i can tell you not many expert guys would race them back in the day because they are not easy to go fast on,not like a cr250 and they are so much more hard work on your body,not that much heavyer but i think its the crank mass and compression that does it,next time one of you 450 guys get a chance to throw a leg over one go for it you will have sooo much fun.

Don't know where you found a new grandfather at but nice. On corners look for a rut to put your tires in then let it rip,the more speed the more traction .

I restored the bike from a mess. You can check out the restoration video on the channel. Bike sold, to much for me. I have a 89 cr500 now that I will be restoring in the next couple of years.

Always wanted on a 500 to see what it was about. Guess my crf 450 is close as ill ever get lol. That is a beautiful cr500.

I have never been lucky enough to ride a 450 but from what i hear about owners of both, the power is about the same with a totally different delivery. Your 450 will hook up much better and top out at a higher speed. With an adept rider the CR500 will keep up with the 450 until the gearing of the 450 allows for the higher top speed. Both machines have there place.
@EPstroker

@@TNTMOTO kinda what I was thinking to. I know power wise both are pretty close in output. I'd imagine the 500 is more of a bottom end motor, and the 450 likes to wind out.

I wish we had more tracks like this in the UK. Too many short supercross style where you can't open up a monster like this.

Dear TNTmoto I am a fellow Honda owner I have a 1985 CR250 I restored it 12 years ago and then the only piston I could find was the last wisco size and man let me tell you the cylinder was thin I love that bike I only wish I race them back in the day I road husky then the open class my first 500 was a 390 cr 1977 i road that bike for 5 years then got a new husky 82 500 cr man that bike was fast I even won a few races on it then fast forward 18 years a good friend of mine got that same bile in your video he said I have got to ride it I found out he could not start it I was the first one to get it running I popped it in gear took off and I did not get off the dam thing all day being I was the only one h who could start it at the end of the day I told my friend I did not see how i ever beet any of them the power was fn great handle so good compared to the husky I just was blown away . Now the main thing I need to find a cylinder for my 250 it has a mean crack under the ex port clean down the hole side i was told there is no fixing it that is my problem can you help me there is not one in the hole dam state of Calif I want that bike back on the track for this summer thanks I love your page and I subscribed keep up the good Hondas and moto on me George Davis moto freek.

There are a couple on on Ebay right now. Both in California. Get on there quick and get one, they wont last long. Maybe they are close to you and the guy will allow pick up.

Looking at the ones on ebay again. one needs a resleeve but ti think the cylinder it self is good. The other one is off an 84. Guy posted it wrong. $75 and then $100 for a sleeve back to stock bore still a good deal. I will keep my eye open here in canada for a cylinder as well but slim pickens up here.I buy almost all my parts of ebay from USA. I spend alot of time evey day just searching out parts.

@@TNTMOTO thank you for your time the 84 is different won't work I took out all moving power canister parts and put a DG pipe and s/spark arrester and old school tuning my porting made my own reeds . This bike is faster than my 2002 YZ250 by a lot. I do have a talent for porting two strokes bin tuning from age 12 I am 60 now my passion for racing is just as strong now as back then now I don't have to ride 3 motors on Saturday and 2 on Sunday now just 2 and 2 much better that 3 moto on Saturday was a bitch .I just want to go to vintage race's on my CR250R Honda I have 2 more vintage bikes a 71 Rickman zundapp 125 mx I need a stayter backing plate for a 93 cr 125 ignition that's all . My favorite bike is a 74 super combat wombate 125 hodaka it is a fun bike to ride I take it camping,any where and every where but the Honda is I call it a David Bailey replica my porting and pipe + my reeds makes it so I have bin around works bikes my hole life my uncles was a factory wrench back in the late 60s into the late 70s I was right next to him you pick up a thing to 2 or 3 .....lol again thank you very much I'll be watching for your 125 to come up it is a 85 cr right I love that one to buy I all so got an 85 500 needs a lot of help next year right now 250
