An embarrassment for Honda engineering, to release a car like this in 2023.
@meow7983

The car is a joint project between Honda China and SAIC I heard. Honda China just use the New Vezel car body rip out its hybrid drive train and change it to an EV drive train.

@@meow7983SAIC never worked with Honda, this is nonsense. It is developed in China (with Japanese input) as well as manufactured (developed in Guangdong Specifically at Honda Automobile China, as GAC has taken over Honda Automobile China, so it controls both GAC-Honda as well as Honda Automobile China. However ENY1 is made by Dongfeng Honda in Wuhan) and it’s a several year old design brought over to fill gaps between the new EV platform in 2025, but the rest are just… Anyways, I thought at EV age we’ve long gone past ‘because it’s made in (China or insert any country) hence it’s good/bad’, but it seems this sort of irrational belief persists, even Bjorn seems to be buying into these now (he certainly doesn’t shy away from that)

If you want to go down in Sweden, you can cross over to Trollhättan from Uddevalla, and go down to Göteborg on the E45. I think it is about 15 minutes longer. You leave E6 at Torp Köpcenter Or if you want to go a more scenic route, you can also leave the E6 at Torp Köpcenter, and go over the islands Orust and Tjörn. And then join the E6 at Stenungsund.

What I really don't get with some of these super late legacy EVs: Did they completely skip benchmarking in the development? When this car started development there were already a good few EVs around that could charge wayyy faster on a similar battedy size and without overheating... You would expect that they at least learn from the mistakes that others have made, if they are so late.

I think you have to understand the main markets of these cars. Typically in Asia you don't drive extreme distances on a single day like in Europe or U.S. and therefore it does not matter that the car charges slow. I think as the time goes by there will be different versions of the cars in Asia, Europe and US, with most likely small and slow charging battery packs in Asia and large, fast charging battery packs in US and Europe. Similar example is air conditioning in cars, which became more or less standard just 10-15 years ago in Northern Europe but in e.g. Southeast Asia (and US) it's common in cars even from the 80s to have aircon.

This charging behaviour is quite similar to that of the Ioniq FL. When I was looking for a new car 2 yrs ago I was thinking about the Ioniq FL (after I had the original 28kWh one), but due to the very poor charging behaviour this was a no-go (unfortunately). Except the charging behaviour the Ioniq FL would have been an almost perfect car, especially with the larger hatch compared to the M3 but still light-weight and highly efficient on the highways.

I think the right tire on the car is Pirelli winter ice zero fr. Its energy class is C, which is bad. Energy class A summer tires have been used in many other cars. So the difference is around 7% in consumption. Wrong rims that are not original to E:Ny1. Looks like 15 years old Accord rims. Energy-efficient rims are also used in electric cars, so that also adds distortion to the consumption readings. Keep these things in mind.

I wonder about the technical reason for chargers not delivering the power they are supposed to? I mean, either it works, or it doesn't. How come it can go in a semi working state, delivering much lower power
@thecrow3461
@thecrow3461 8 месяцев назад
The BMS (Battery management system) will limit the amount of power going into the battery pack to prevent damage if the pack gets too warm or is too cold. There is also a charging curve. Some cars will charge to 80% really fast, others only to 40% and then charge slower and so on. Its all about the chemicals in the battery pack, how they are designed, cooled, heated, arranged and how aggresively the BMS is protecting the battery pack. It's not the charger limiting power, its the car limiting how much power it draws. Unless we get solid state cells you won't see max charging speed for long if at all.
@tommyovesen
@tommyovesen 8 месяцев назад
Yes, I know this, but according to Bjørn and his videos, sometime he changes charger to get better charging speed, so sometimes the charger is limiting the power@@thecrow3461

@joshuarosen465

@@MichaelPanzer Obviously that wasn't the plan. GM thought they had a winner with Ultium, it was supposed to be a flexible scalable platform. Why they are having so much difficulty has never been explained but clearly they have a serious problem. The Hummer has been out for a couple of years but they've never built more than a handful a month. The Lyriq has only sold 2400 since its release, that's better than the Hummer but it's still pretty pathetic.

This test is a bit strange because no one drives this kind of distance in real life. Much more important is consumption, which is actually quite good for a high SUV whose appearance has not been ruined in a wind tunnel, like the Koreans. And still driven with crappy Pirelli winter tires. I don't know if you can get any worse. Charging capabilities alone do not make an electric car good, as Tesla's winter tests prove.
