Just ordered mine, so many bad reviews of this car, I almost didnt bother trying it! So glad I did, yes its not super exciting, but that interior, the build quality, equipment level and its not trying to look like a star ship lol Did the test drive, gave them my money. I have a lot of time for your reviews and this one has been so honest and correct compared to some who really hosed down this Honda. Thank You!!!
Finally an honest review of the e:Ny1! I was sick of viewing biased reviews. I had a test drive and I was pleasnatly surprised by it. I have ordered one!
Same here don't know people complain. At the end of the day if the car is practical for you that's all that matters. It's a great car I love it. Always had a Honda.
You are the only person that I have seen who knows about the resonator wheels. I am very keen to hear, or rather not hear this. For those that might not know Honda have fitted light weight Helmholtz resonators inside each wheel. This attenuates noise around 220hz by 10db. On our coarse UK roads this should be a real advantage. Thanks for your review, good fun.
I have the feeling that the E:NY1 is more the electric Jazz than one of the larger petrol Honda cars!! It’s a well designed and well built car, just like my old Honda Jazz was. Yes!! I had a Honda Jazz before my 2020 Renault Zoe!! It was a great car until the engine management Unit went home!!
just recently subscribed so catching up. Excellent well balanced review. Right now,;26 Dec 23, Honda are offering £8000 deposit contribution and you can effectively get £10000 off the rrp Makes it a tempting prospect.
Yes the Kona and Mg are more efficient, but these Hondas are now selling for £27000 … that’s a steal at this price. HONDA Made a huge mistake pricing this car and deserves all the hate. But if they updated the software and brought the range from 256 to 279 or even 300 like its rivals, it would fly off the shelves. But for me, 26K is a steal, as cheap as a Corsa E
@@waynekerrr9027 They conveniently left that bit out :) That low hung battery is a disgrace from Honda given the silly prices they are charging for this model ....and could be the cause of a big repair down the road on rougher roads, larger speed bumps etc.Question is..would Honda cover any battery damage under their warranty?
All the EV's are just getting to be stupid prices ( especially from the legacy makers). We know that development costs are quite high and they say about battery costs while conveniently forgetting the cost savings of not having to put in an engine or gearbox which has to be a circa £7,500 saving over an ICE car.
I suppose it still has a motor and electronics and a basic gearbox, but I do agree with you they are taking the mic especially with this car. It should be £35k, I'm sure the price will drop a bit though, Especially second hand.
Nice to see a front charging port. Just drive in, plug in, reverse out - simple and easy. No worries about cables not reaching the port, and no reversing into tight spaces in UK charging stations.
Reversed parking has it's advantages. When you park, you had a good oversight of the parking area. When driving away, you have a good oversight too. The other way around, the situation has changed dramatically between you entering the car and driving away.
@@BendeVette exactly this. You should never drive into a parking space if it's possible to avoid doing so. It is much, much safer to reverse in, especially when leaving the space, and it's much easier to manoeuvre into tighter spaces when reversing.
I have last year's Honda CRV hybrid and I find the road noise is quite intrusive I believe Honda have inserted some sort of compensator in the tires to reduce the tire roar on rough tarmac how did you find this when you test drive it
I own a Honda HRV hybrid, which is a similar to this Anyone, don’t see any reason why one shouldn’t buy this, of course price is high, but always dealers give discounts. All these negative comments are by people who cannot afford to buy a bicycle, just poking their nose. Nothing wrong with designing etc, except the name.
Always had Honda CR-Vs until they proudly said that EVs were not for them. This seems expensive for what it is. The Volvo EX30 looks much better value for money. I do appreciate your videos.
The issue is that Honda are remembered with rose tinted glasses. People remember the exciting and daring ones but forget that they have always provided cars for the masses too that are more functional. What Honda provide generally speaking are robust reliable cars that have good road manners and are nice to drive and own. Yes, the Honda E is wonderfully cute but saddled with hopeless range that means most wont entertain it. But Honda again have always done this, look at the CRZ, the CRX the Legend and various others. All are universally loved but all flawed through price, design or practicality. This will be another Honda that you can admire and enjoy owning but not one you will remember. Hopefully something else built on this platform will deliver more in the way of excitement and flair. What does concern me is that Honda also used to place value for money high on their list whilst still giving a very high quality product. Now it seems they want to charge a premium for everything regardless of whether it merits it and that is costing them market share I fear they will never claw back.
Toyota and Honda seem to have context going about finding the weirdest name for their EVs. And the moment Honda seems to be in the lead... Whoever thought that naming a var e:Ny1 would be a good idea?
Price is the real problem for all cars in this segment. I've had an e-Niro since 2019 and new ones are still typically €10,000 more than ICE equivalents (I live in France). The real problem for this Honda, the Niro EV and others is the starting price of the Tesla Model Y. I mean come on!!...The base Model Y is a much bigger and more capable car with performance and charging speeds that are way ahead of these cars. Someone needs to break ranks on this size of car and get into the mid £30K....other than that Tesla and the Chinese will carve out big chunks of the market.
Be interested to see how gloss black arches and bumper keep their appearance with miles and time. Honda UK sales target? Should sell in the hundreds (68 year old Civic driver here).
If this has a reasonable amount of boot space, then it’s a great little car!! But if it’s smaller than the Renault Zoe I’m driving at the moment, it would suit my purposes.
If this is a dedicated ev platform it seems to have been wasted as the wheels haven't been pushed out to the corners to make the most of it; I think they should have called it the 'DWHT' (do we have to?).
This was a well balanced review. I agree with you that Honda (as has other makes) seem to have lost their design flair of old. They definitely need to look back to their old designs like the CRV and bring back the Honda magic. Would have liked to see what was inside the bonnet of this E:NY1.
i like the vehicle a lot , but there are two major issues i have with it, 1 battery size, its just not enough, i would be happy to see a 60kw honda E but a large suv its just not enough 75 to 85 kw is the norm people are looking for, even vw has had to up its game with the id series this feels like Nissan a step behind the game, its not hard give us two normal door handles, kids use these, elderly and disabled use these, yet this half hidden door handle is harder to open especially from a wheelchair, also i would question its client base from rivals
Honda is the Japanese Up-Market purchase that Mercedes is to Germany. It does not mean its better though I dont remember them making a duff car. People who have the money like to make a statement with their cars, and this is no different. A small segment Manufacturer, who seem to like it that way.
Had one today as a courtesy car when my FK8 Civic Type R was in for its 5th year service & Mot. I felt the handling on twisty roads was cumbersome & it crashed over sharp bumps & depressions. Otherwise it drove OK in town & main roads. Very expensive for what it is as are most EV's. In driving 16 miles to home the "range" only dropped by 3 miles but on starting return journey the range then immediately dropped by 17 miles so this could be misleading when on a journey. The same thing happened on the return journey in that when driving at 70mph the range suddenly stopped reducing.
Balanced test, strengths and weaknesses put forward in a sympathetic way. Note. As a car journalist, you still have a bit of an example function. So STOP means stop.
Disappointing I think is an understatment, I cannot see how hardly anybody would buy this over most of its rivals, as it is just less of less of less. I mean who in there right mind would buy this over a model Y for the same price, or even a MG4 for a lot less.
Honda clearly overpriced this car and are now offering £8,000 finance contribution with dealers throwing a further £2,000 into the mix… this changes everything.
This car could be good, but it's got a few problems: No electric memory seat, not even as an option. Very low ground clearance in this high riding SUV, it's actually lower than a Golf due to hanging battery. And finally, very bad charging speeds, that are not competitive with other cars.
I will be brutally honest - price and charging speed make this car unusable for me. Charging speeds would make sense if the battery was smaller. On the same note, if you are buying an SUV most likely family has something to do with that, so I just don't understand how you can have 'fun' with kids on the charger. This car just makes zero sense. I think Mazda did make mistake.
Great review of a totally anonymous car....I'm almost offended by the stupidity of the name and the lack of boot space is a total waste....Honda is no longer on my list...I'm just going full Korean for our next purchase...honestly Honda, along with Toyota you've totally given up on the electric age
Love our Honda e - a joyous vehicle. I felt the e:Ny1 was soulless - nothing to recommend it. Motor wined. Expensive compared to rivals. Very disappointing. C minus Honda, must try harder
For the stupidly high price point this should have been way better styled and no manual boots, sunroof blinds etc. I bought a Cupra Born 58kWh which was 10k cheaper than this offering and it looks a hundred times nicer, has a bigger range on a smaller battery, 125kW charging capability and amazingly a slightly larger boot too.. admittedly it has its issues too, but man Honda are seriously lagging behind with this offering. There are far nicer cheaper cars out there, Niro EV, new Kona, Smart #1, Megane E-Tech, ID 4, EV6, Ioniq 5 I mean what we're they thinking? What's reviewed here I would've imagined would be 35k-37k no more than that. When the price was mentioned I was like.... what? Are they being serious?
There must be about 20 models of EV on the market at the moment that look virtually identical to this. Looking forward to the end of the SUV era.. can't be much longer now?
Horrible when minimalistic meets clutter. This might have an electric drive train but it not a electric ground up designed car. I suppose you can not make it perfect because they won't be able to upgrade it later.
Very disappointed the small E is fantastic apart from range should have kept to that concept with more room and range prob stuck with similar interior and bash lay out 🤔🤔🤔
Expensive, but never underestimate the spending power of the sort of UK baby boomers Honda targets. Main problem is fitting in their visit to a dealership between the world cruises
@@AutoEV good marketing. They obviously know that's how people are going to pronounce it, or they wouldn't be telling you not to. But by having such an obvious name, compared to a random jumble of letters and numbers, they can prompt interaction. They'd still need to knock 25% off the price before it could be considered a worthwhile option though.
Well if they are anything like they were with the Honda E then i suggest noone get one of their cars. high price, zero updates to the screens etc, issues not fixed....terrible
Two things - a) I’ve just watched a night drive test of this car and the headlights are dire and seem to be halogen lights, I think my 1996 Defender has more powerful halogens…… b) Honda knows it’s market very well, this will appeal to over 70’s with a bit of money who have bought Honda Accords for years and years.
