I pulled the broken cable thru the bottom then just pulled the old sheath hard and it came unseated. My issue was I couldn't remember how it clipped on the bottom lever so I just slid it on but it kept coming off. I though maybe the end of that piece came off but seeing your video I saw that it actually hooks WAY in there! THANK YOU for this video, I JB welded it on but that didn't last one pull! heh Thanks again!
This helped me with a similar problem, about which even Honda did not know. I thought that the cable was broken, but the clamp that goes around the cable came loose from its anchor. The clamp was still on the cable. All I had to do was use a C clamp to press it back into position.
I have the same issue. Cable is good at both ends. But, when I press the lever, the mower doesn't move forward. So, it appears to be the clamp issue. How did you remove the anchor to press the clamp?
You don’t have to get the pliers in there to squeeze the tabs. The washer that holds the cable in place slides up and out. Once out, use pliers to squeeze tabs. Reinsert the washer then install the new cable. There’sa little screw holding the washer in place that takes a star but, I was able to use a small Allen wrench. If the washer and cable are stuck, line up a flat head screw driver to the bottom of the cable and pop it toward the belt and pulley.
Thanks for the help. The little screw holding the washer uses a T15 star point bit. I used a 3/8" Drive Star Point Bit Set from Harbor Freight. The T15 bit fits on your 3/8" ratchet.
What's the trick to get the old plastic barrel out of the clip bracket? Its hard to get pliers in there and see what's going on and there isn't much clearance under the pulley
My gosh this was a nightmare but I only removed the first shroud. Forgot to close my fuel valve and tons of gas and oil came out the side now it won't start. Any recommends?
The replacement cable I have seems to be too long for it to fully engage. Is there something I’m missing? I ran it through and hooked it in but it won’t engage when I squeeze the lever. Anyone else have this problem?
I've had that same problem. It is all reassembled, the rear wheels turn, but there is NO pulling power! The cable seems to be too long. Any help would be appreciated!!
@@claudiagray2462 I had the same problem. The 'Z' end of the cable, which connects underneath, was broken and couldn't pull the actuator for self-propel. Like yours, the rear wheels spun, but it wouldn't move when putting it on all four. I repositioned the broken end and it now moves, but there's a new cable on order to fix it correctly. I'll be taking it apart again.
