I just got the HYA. Performance is what I expect but the handle wasn’t as comfortable as the belt drive transmission I had before. Another thing I noticed was that when the bag was full, the weight made it tip back and the front wheels lift off the ground. I did notice a lot of dirt was sucked up because of where I was mowing, so that may not be typical.

Great video, thank you! I have both, an HRX217VKA and a similar HRN216. The 217 I use at home and the 216 I use to do several "charity cuts" I do for a few older couples in our neighborhood. I was surprised at the differences between these two mowers. The larger wheels on the 217 greatly improve the controllability. My 217 is pulling a "striper" which I'm sure is a considerable load on the propulsion system but it handles it great. Engine power is fantastic and the blade cut is the best I've ever seen. I like the 217's self-propelled control levers much better (on top vs. pushing with your thumbs on the bottom of the handle) than the 216's. As you noted both are great mowers but with all I know now I wish I had spent the extra $200 and purchased the second 217 rather than the 216. Once again, thanks for the very educational video on these two great mowers.

After I tried 3 different high end EGO mowers with all three failing to run after motor overload. I decided to stick with a gas mower. I watched this review and bought a Honda HRN216VKA on his recommendation. I brought it home set it up, (very easy to do) mowed my 1/4 acre of lawn and was done. The bag filled completely, unlike my previous Toro and Craftsman mowers. I knew the bag was full when I saw clippings being left on the lawn. I think this is the best walk behind mower I've ever used. If your looking to buy and can patronize this man, I'd do it. Trust him. He knows what he's talking about. On earlier HRX217's, one of the complaints about the clip director is that it doesn't block clippings adequately when set in the full mulch position. That is, a considerable amount of grass accumulates in the chute after mowing a moderately sized lawn. Thus, it requires an extra step of blowing or otherwise clearing the chute out. I have experienced this as well on three different HRX's, dating from the mid-2000's to as recently as a 2017 model. Have the redesigned newer models fixed this issue? Thanks.

I just flip it from mulch to full bag back and forth three four times before I shut it down. Always good to grab the leaf blower and blast out your lawn mowers before putting them up regardless of make/model.
@rla1000
@rla1000 Год назад
My HRX is 16 or 17 years old and I've never had that problem over the course of a single mow. After many months of mowing some of the fine, dead clippings may leak through but no "considerable amount." Another point related to this is that when mulching the bag is not in use so the hinged door is closed. However, that door is shaped such that any clippings that do get into the chute will drop out the back. Even when I've accidentally forgotten to change from "Bag" to "Mulch," the clippings go through the chute and drop out the back. I guess I don't understand your problem.

After almost 15 years with a top of the line Honda mower and not a single repair needed decided to purchase a new one before they stop production. Not so good luck with the new one, out of the box defective. The compression release mechanism is not working making it very difficult to start. Unfortunately Honda nor Northern Tool will replace it but requiring me to take it in to their shop. The GCV200 has the cam internal with push rods rather than overhead cam. With the new set up the engine requires complete disassembly to replace the cam and compression relief mechanism. I am disappointed to buy a new mower and have the engine completely taken apart and reassembled. Unexpected from Honda to ship it with the defect. The pull cord abruptly stopped when I first pulled it so hard it bent the keeper on the handle. Have you encountered this problem? The mechanic at the shop said they had just completed one and that the part is on backorder. Have you encountered this or is mine a rare issue? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MPvxokO1YII.html

I have had the 'HZA' I guess you call it.. the one I never see in anyone's videos.. with the speed control and throttle on the handlebars itself and the electric start.. I got mine 5 years ago and having mowed lawns for over 40 years (not professionally but at my own homes since I was a teen till now.. this is hands down the best mower ive ever owned.. im surprised they uppsed the Horsepower as my GCV190 even in really tall grass it really never "chugs" like my previous craftsman mower did even in less tall grass.. I try to keep up where im not adjusting my ehoght or cutting a lot off but reality is i travel for work and sometimes the yard gets away so i raise the height and cut it back to normal over a couple mows with a day or 2 in between.. the 4 separate height adjusters was a PLUS for me as ive had single adjuster mowers.. which wor great when new but after a few years would be a pain.. I find myself often using the CLIP direwctor in the middle to bag half and mulch half if my yard gets too high.. its one of my favorite features ever.. the other thing I notice is that the HRX has even zing to get the grass in the bag even if its not perfectly dry.. I dont have issues with the bag chute getting clogged up or the grass all landing in the front.. the machine can get a bit wheelie-happy when the bag gets near full but that lets me know time to empty.. I went with the HZA because well I can... and im lazy.. i like electric start... esp since here in ohio we find ourselves mowing ion cold weather at the beginning and end of our seasons.. its not unusual to be mowing with hat N gloves on.. my previous craftsman.. yeah if it was 35 degrees outside I was pulling and pulling.. the honda fires right off with the E start.. the engine will sometimes surge up and down a few times right at cold start and no load but thats it then its running and ready to go.. i can easily see this mower lasting a really long time.. as long as they make parts available for it.. im sure at some point something will break and ill need a part.. as for the price.. I bought it (like you say) at a small local shop which services and sells stihl and honda both.. (i was also looking for a stihl trimmer at the time).. I skipped the big box stores entirely.. the neighborhood where that store is located tends to be more upscale.. he said he sold many electric start models.. great Video

So I bought an hrn 217 last spring and I anytime I cut low, the mower seems to struggle with the thicker turf. Even a little bit of moisture in the grass causes it to struggle. Not impressed at all with the mower honestly. Would the hrx struggle with low, thick Bermuda? I do t mind spending the $, but just want a mower that doesn’t seem to get bogged down like that. Another thing I miss from my toro is the quarter in height cuts, which my current Honda hrn doesn’t offer.

One other reason why your Honda would be having a hard time starting is a common problem with the choke system. @@rocketsoutdoorpower6971 - yeah, that rating is based on the reputation of the mower I've owned for 20 years - not the new ones. The control can only be 3 things but I'm talking about them going to the grey paddle looking system for the self propel system that requires you to push on it with your thumbs rather than just grip it with your hand anywhere. If you actually used one of these on a regular basis or cared about repairing them you would see that hydrostatic transmission problems are the #1 issue with this mower and always have been. A replacement for my old mower is over $300. Since you claim to be ignorant of Honda's issue - as the mower heats up and you run it for more than a test drive - the self propel unit will not be able to move the mower. Typically, you can start mowing at half speed or less and by the time you finish it's on full speed just to get it to move. You can engage the drive and the mower won't move but if you lift the rear wheels they will start turning once there is no resistance. Maybe google it, there are quite a few RU-vid videos that discuss these issues. I had to pay a shop to rebuild the drive line - bushings and c-clips were worn out - which will damage the transmission - once I spent a few hundred bucks to get things right then I found out the transmission itself was bad too. Then I just blindly spent 850 on a new one that couldn't mow a 3/4 acre yard before it failed the VERY FIRST TIME. Honda is DONE!!!! First mower went 20+ years, new one didn't last a day. Ya I know you sell and promote Honda LM but I own one and use it regularly and I have to say outside the engine which is awesome the rest of the mower design is hateful. Start from the top the handle ergos are horrible period everything about it needs redesigned, The bag gets half full and the front end gets real light and three quarters is when you popping wheelies and becomes very heavy. At three quarters full you start mulching anyway, The plastic frame very heavy and cant get a good edge cut. Raising and lowering the wheels becomes difficult over time, forget about cutting any hills its to heavy and wants to roll over if your side cutting and of course the wheelies get worse going up hills. Its doesnt do leaf pickup or mulching very well you have to keep going over and over the leaves for pickup. If you have a small flat yard you probably will be fine purchasing this mower but then again any other mower would work as well!

Well I'm not getting paid for this. I just deliver information. You would be the 1 in 10 that doesn't like their Honda mower. Nobody can please everyone. As far as it not mulching or picking up leaves, you have some sort of an issue there. Could be a couple of things. I'm sorry you don't like it. Thanks for the input though 👍

What the hell dude you need to watch some videos on how to operate that's still in my opinion the best mower on the market and that includes the Ego. Had mine since 2009 no ethanol gas changed the spark plug air filter oil at least once a year and they'll run forever leaves and mulching it is top notch!

I dont know these machines aren’t that amazing, I have been using it for a couple days, great build quality and mulching no doubt, but no side chute and no give, it bounces like crazy… That is a big downfall and its a narrow mower, no need to spend over 600 on a 21” mower
@rocketsoutdoorpower6971
@rocketsoutdoorpower6971 2 года назад
Mulching mowers don't use a side discharge and you're going to spend much more if you want anything wider. Wider mowers won't cut as nice either. That's why Honda doesn't make one.

@ormand3000 That may be a sexual reference, but that doesn't make anything I said "sexist". I'm sorry we find everything so offensive anymore. You probably shouldn't share these with your customers. I would also suggest they never turn on a TV if they can't handle a "That's what she said" joke. My apologies for being so offensive.
