Today on Buckle Up Harry takes a spin in the Hybrid Honda Jazz, a B-segment Supermini with lots of practical touches. It's got a cute face and magic seats, but is it better than the opposition?
Up against cars such as the Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 208, Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris, Citroen C3, Renault Clio, Nissan Micra, Volkswagen Polo, Mini Hatch, Audi A1, Hyundai i20, Alfa Romeo Mito, Skoda Fabia, Dacia Sandero, Fiat 500, MG 3, Suzuki Swift, Mazda 2, Ford Fiesta and Seat Ibiza.

Great review you guys! Your channel is very refreshing and not as "generic" as the other Auto Channels. It does not feel like you've watched other reviewers review the car and then copied their comments in the video. I am keen to watch the rest of your videos.

Glad you enjoyed the video. A lot of people seem to. Immediately write the Jazz off as an old persons car, that's the main thing I didn't want to do.

Great review Harry! 👍 About 3 weeks ago I wrote to your review of the Toyota Yaris: "Just my advice: also visit the Honda dealer." and: "A test drive costs you nothing... and can be very surprising!" 😲 I was referring to this Jazz and guess what: I think we agree.😉 My advice to anyone looking for a (not too) small hybrid: take an extensive test drive in both, the Yaris (or Yaris Cross) and the Jazz (or the Crosstar) !

@@BuckleUpShow We wait patiently...😉 I wonder what you'll think of the Clio's, in my opinion, strange "hesitating" powertrain. My sister and brother-in-law have the Clio Hybrid and I find it a bit strange how the Clio seems to occasionally search for the right gear.

I've had three Jazzes and like the seating position -- one of the reasons the driver is higher is that Honda put the fuel tank under the front seats, which is why the rear footwell is so deep.

@@BuckleUpShow Yes, it's personal preference. Personally, I like the feeling of being in an MPV without the actual bulk.
@AleksandarStefanovic

I also usually like the higher seating position (being 177 cm tall), and in Citroën Berlingo for example, I put it on highest, and the visibility is awesome. However, in my Mk.2 Jazz (2009), I lowered the seat to the lowest setting, because, the windshield doesn't go as high as it does in Berlingo, so I feel like driving a tank, without the view of the sky, and also the rear-view mirror gets closer to the eye-line and it starts to impede visibility.
@AleksandarStefanovic
@AleksandarStefanovic 2 месяца назад
I have the 2009 Jazz (with the i-Shift system), and there is a lot of stuff to like about this new iteration - the USB ports in the back, the softer suspension (it's notably stiff in older Jazzes), the radar cruise control, Android Auto, and, of course, the e:HEV system. If it didn't have the fake gear changes, and was actually a PHEV (akin to the i3), it would be a perfect, small-yet-spacious, good-economy car. As it stands, the technology is basically inferior to 2014 i3's range-extended EV drivetrain, as you don't have the option to charge it (in public, if not at home). Also, it's sad that the fold-down armrest is omitted, as it's a really handy feature in the older models. Overall, a great upgrade over the older models, but not without its own flaws...
@BuckleUpShow

I think you might be idealising the i3 system there a little, it was a good idea but in practice it wasn't brilliant

The starting price now for a crosstar is 28k :/. 4k more than when i got mine in 21 Its also far better put together car, i get why the jogger is cheap compared. I prefer the looks of the Jogger, if i was going to have a complaint that's not quality related, it would be the A pillars . I think they obstruct vision, especially at junctions. @@BuckleUpShow

@AndrewKNI My Mum's CRZ (2010 model) was bought new. 14 years old now and not one thing has gone wrong with the hybrid system or the car overall. Original hybrid battery pack still good. I realise it uses the older IMA hybrid system rather than this new I- MMD full hybrid system. However, my confidence would be strong in terms of long term reliability if I was buying one of their new hybrids.

I'm jealous you guys still get these cars. The Jazz (Fit) was discontinued across the pond a couple of model years ago, so the smallest and cheapest Honda you can buy in North America is a Civic, which starts around $25,000 USD. CVT Just means "continuos variable transmition", and this is it. Anyway it works like a Electric range extender except for the "overdrive gear" (that actually is not).... So this is a series/parallel hybrid with continuos variable transmition. There are a lot of differents kinds of CVT
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow Год назад
Where your argument Falls down is the T of CVT, there is no direct drive transmission from the engine to the wheels other than for the high range gear, and if no drive is bring transmitted then there is nothing to continuesly vary. Calling it a CVT sells both the ingenuity and driving feel of the e:HEV propulsion system short
@davidtrujillo7100
@davidtrujillo7100 Год назад
@@BuckleUpShow there is an oil bath multi-disc clutch (as most of modern motorbikes) to engage the highway gear...there you are, a transmition. Other way will be a conventional range extender electric car. This is a series/parallel hybrid CVT.
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow Год назад
There is no continuous variation in the traditional sense, as the drive under all conditions (bar high-speed, low demand driving) is electric. The engine runs a motor-generator, which is used to power a second motor, though this is not a direct connection, it is powered via a battery buffer. Primarily, the e:HEV system is an electric drive one, just with a built in generator, except at high speeds where it becomes a direct drive powertrain.
@davidtrujillo7100
@davidtrujillo7100 Год назад
@@BuckleUpShow ...except... So... Search Google: "tipes of CVT" Nice videos 👍
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow Год назад
The e:HEV system is not a CVT though. The vehicle can move under electric power alone. Even when the engine is running it is completely physically detached from the drive axle in all but specific drive cases, and when it is connected, it is a single-speed gear, not a transmission that is continuously variable. Thanks for watching 😊

Haha! The most revolting part of the design is that horrible Miss Piggy nose. On the 2023 face‐lift finally they've got rid of that eyesore and even found some half‐decent wheel‐trims. For all that the overall result is still one ginormous mess; quite t h e most ugly‐looking supermini on the market and obscenely expensive.
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow 5 месяцев назад
I like that it stands out and the utility and intelligence of the car overall for me places it high up on my list of superminis
@DavidHughes-op6zl
@DavidHughes-op6zl 5 месяцев назад
What a seriously ugly, disjointed‐looking car... no one angle gels with any of its neighbours - the thing was was likely designed by a committee that couldn't make up its mind what it ultimately wanted. To round it off there are those toytown wheel covers, h i d e o u s. The word that leaps to mind to best describe the Jazz's overall appearance is 'frumpy'. (I know a granny who swears hers runs on 'elder'berry wine.)
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow 5 месяцев назад
I think it's entirely possible the design team were told "design it with purpose" but what they actually heard is "design it with porpoise" and if you imagine that was their goal they did a brilliant job
