This ended up being a longer video so if you want to skip to the setup it's at 11:50 and then fine tuning the setup on the bike at 15:22 - although you should watch the whole thing :) Link to the product: japan.webike.n...
Awesome videos man. I learn a ton from your content. Thank you! - Question: Do you know if the fair market price of the motorcycle suffers when installing a new speedometer? My guess is that after installing a new speedometer, in the title, you would have to disclose the mileage of the motorcycle as unknown? I want to make this speedometer upgrade myself but I'd love to know a bit more about the implications from a motorcycle value and legal perspectives when making a speedometer replacement. My understanding is that tampering with the odometer is illegal in the USA, not sure if this modification counts as odometer tampering. It technically shouldn't because you are replacing instead of tampering but I'm not sure. I'd love to know your thoughts about the implications of speedometer replacements on motorcycles overall.
I'm not a lawyer / this isn't legal advice, but most of the laws state that it's illegal to modify the odometer with the intent to defraud. On this odometer you can enter in the number of miles from the previous odometer so it reflects the true number of miles the bike has. Honestly on the Grom and Monkey I can't imagine it would impact the value at all.
I'm installing the tacho next week. I'm going to try you tire settings. I'm running Pirelli Corsa Scooter tires however the current OEM tach is correct. I hope your settings will work on mine!
I bought the original Takengawa Speedometer after watching one of your videos mainly for the gear indicator! but find the fuel reading close to the gear bar difficult to see! It looks like the new Takengawa Super Multi DN TFT speedometer & tach is an improvement over the original! I now think I will be purchasing this! I have recently bought a 2022 Honda Grom and find the stock TFT Screen is more than adequate and is very easy to read and very visible with all the information you need! much better than the old Honda Monkey without a tacho meter! and better than the Takengawa earlier replacement for the Monkeybike! Thanks for the videos! Modifying my Honda Monkey 2018 and Honda Grom 2022 also as you post great how to videos! keep them coming! do you think you might tackle the Takengawa conversion for the older Monkey from 4 speed to make it a five speed?
Would this work/connect properly on the Honda Trail 125 2023? Would really love a gear indicator on this thing, I know there are some eBay cheap ones but this is impressive especially with the analogue dial!
@eastcoastish Actually doing the old Takegawa trying to figure out where to stash that BIG new wire harness. Were you able to fit it behind the headlight bucket assembly somewhere or did you reroute wiring into the actual light bucket?? Thanks for help!!
Yes this harness was plug and play. You do also have to run a separate wire to the coil to pickup the pulse for the RPM since that wasn't a stock function on the Monkey.
Have you had any experience with the OPMID Multimeter for the Honda Monkey? I'm trying to decide between the Takegawa Speedo you installed on this video and the OPMID.
@@eastcoastish No it doesn't. Its EXACTLY the same. But the ignition coil looks different. I will attempt to install my non-tft screen one that I got from Japan and will update so you can let the your other subscribers know
well I purchased this product after watching your video! the new Honda Monkey Takengawa Multi DN TFT Speedometer in this video and set it up and all seemed ok? I did not use the bike for a few weeks until I went for a second ride on my Honda Monkey today! The meter was reading straight away maxed out? In red I was doing 360km/hour?? at about 50km per hour it was reading over 200km per hour? any suggestions? is there a reset button? is there anyway of doing a software update?
Did you go through the settings again to make sure the wheel size and everything is still set correctly? I only ride this bike once a week or so and everything is still working fine for me. I don't think theres a way to update the firmware but I'd go through the setup process again...
@@eastcoastish I had not done the sensor point or the circumference!oops! I do not remember having to do that on the old dn meter install? Hopefully that will sort it out! Thanks for your quick reply!
@@eastcoastish With having five motorcycles now! at least buying two because of watching your videos! I got confused as to what I had and had not done! I watched your install video and installed mine and put the bike back in the garage! a month later I took it for a ride but had not gone through the set up process! doh! After watching this video again and adjusting the sensor point and the circumference and finally setting the bike to learn the gears! the meter is running fine now ! Thanks!
@@eastcoastish oh yeah, my plan is to install this sensor on the exhaust neck to measure the temperature of the 2-stroke exhaust neck. can this speedometer measure it?
@@eastcoastish 05-05-0060 there's different part numbers on the link that you sent this part number comes up as universal I just wanted to confirm I'm not a fan of the koso one because it revs15,000 as this one is 12
@@eastcoastish does Your bike come with ABS and LED Headlight? I ask You so many questions as I read on webinar I need to do several mods/welding OR is it plug&play? Last but not least: which app fid You use to calibrate the rev meter? Did You connect something on tre ECU?
@@beniaminofinocchiaro I believe everything was plug and play. I don't have ABS, yes the headlight is LED. You can use the same settings as I did for the tachometer, I found the speedometer settings via trial and error - I'd also recommend starting with my numbers.
